No, I used to be more geeky with my toys but since we went Mac in 2003, noone ever bothered me to fix their pc or droid phone anymore. Back then a mac was the only proper way to sequence music and cut video. I still have a running Linux server for my sites developments and security cameras, though.
I am currently running Calyx OS on a pixel 7a. De-Googled.
Also working on getting a new phone number then using a VOIP number to forward all communication to my real number. VOIP provider does not require KYC (know your customer).
Saw a video clip a couple of days back I think on one of Joe Rogan's podcasts. The guest said anything you can turn off they can just turn back on without your knowledge.
I've seen examples of this on the wife's and her friends phones a few times already.
"Journal" is a new app that is part of the newer iOS. It's simply an on-your-phone place to journal. Not sure why that needs an option to be discovered by location services, it's not like most people would ever share their private journaling with others. And if they do, it's usually via video journaling like tiktok or YouTube. But it's just a journaling app.
Thatβs the point. In clown world they want to know everything youβre thinking or doing. There is no privacy. Only they can have secrets or so they think. Itβs why they want Assange and Snowden dead.
Top comment on this thread also pointed out the ridiculous option of charging when iPhone sees fit to charge your phone, whether it's plugged in or not, to "reduce your carbon footprint". I turned that off too.
Why are options a bad thing? Like you, I opted to NOT reduce my carbon footprint, but I do let the phone manage the charge levels, to prolong my battery life. My last iPhone was ~5 yrs old and still had ~85% of original battery life. I see this as a good thing.
Exactly thatβs why when I would register any prepaid phones since back in the day,
I always put my first name is No and my last name as Name
Caller id: No Name
Apple is subject to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2012, which makes Tim Cook (and others PERSONALLY LIABLE) for statements regarding financial, and privacy. As in a decade in the Federal Penitentiary, and $60K per offence, per user. Why is Apple liable - because Steve Jobs and Tim Cook SAID they don't sell your private information. Google makes no such claim.
Apple is the company responsible for the "assembled in USA" scam and runs a walled garden. At least Android allows you to install whatever you want and is honest about where they are made. Apple is not the lesser evil.
How? The controls are all easier to get to on Android and are in more sensible places. Fixing my mom's iPhone was always a nightmare until I finally got her to listen to me instead of the salesman and get a Motorola.
Really? Now we are talking lockdown, instead of connection?
To stay on point, there is nothing advantageous to Apple as a platform, other than ease. And with ease comes ....?
So, you would have to invest into security. Why Apple? No, it is hyped beyond belief and offers no real advantage. Instead, it offers quite the disadvantage.
Remember: there is no crony capitalists profit in real solutions only in monopolies.
All Apple firmware hacked. Knowledge was made public in January. Can't find it in my search history at the moment, but will look into it later. I believe ZeroHedge reported this; it was quite big news at the time in the tech scene. Apple's stocks dove a bit after this came out, which was around the same time they loss the lawsuit for the biometrics in their apple watches (the pulse ox/heartbeat tracking features) for patent/copyright infringements from the medical industry.
Haha, guess me and my frens are retards by your standards. Once you're surveilled enough, you'll just get rid of your cellphone and upgrade to a sat phone. (I hope you never have to experience this, btw. It sucks.) Then you can speak with your family if the cellphone towers or grid go down.
What's wrong with daily dinner conversations, face-to-face, in the same room, at the same table? Too medieval for you? Our families have ditched the phones... tired of being surveilled and spied upon.
There used to be 3 easier ways to do this, but Apple and Samsung both killed them. Airplane mode (back when it really worked), ON/OFF (again - back when it actually turned the phone off), and remove the battery.
FFS don't buy Apple products people. Buy a Motorola. Almost zero bloatware and not overpriced. Excellent battery life. Stop supporting the scummiest corpo in America. Apple are literally the people behind the "assembled in America" scam.
No idea what that is but Motorola sold me a phone with a Snapdragon 8 for half of a similar spec Samsung and it is great and wasnt stuffed with bloatware and better battery life.
Thanks, I just deactivated this on my 5yo-ish iPhone11.ππ»

Same here on my 2nd gen 6... π
Try to ditch Apple if you can. Closed source OS's are sketch
I had a Pixel 7 Pro. It was the worst phone I've ever had, and I've had internet connected phones since 2003.
I am currently running Calyx OS on a pixel 7a. De-Googled.

Would you be so kind to explain the voip? I'm thinking of changing numbers and getting a burner phone, but your idea sounds good.
This must be for the newer phones. I have an older phone and don't see the Journaling Suggestions setting even though I updated.
If and when I buy a new iPhone, I'll remember this. Thanks, OP!

This. Our iPhones were turning themselves on. Removed SIM, deleted phone. Bye bye Apple.
Was enabled on my 15 Pro. Off now.
I removed the app therefore no app feature in settings
I don't have an iAnything, so I don't know the answer here... what are "Journaling Suggestions"? And WTF would you want them?
I simply want to commend you on your handle.
I lost it after reading this. In tears for about 2 minutes. Thank you.

That app drains the battery, I disabled all permissions on that app.
Now the phone battery lasts longer.
Searching for journaling suggestions I found several articles claiming thses claims from Twitter are false
Doesnβt matter. Any unintentional sharing of anything is bad news.
Edit: Google? Apple? In the end which one has taken a bite out the apple. /s
Supposedly that is not what is happening. The data stays on your phone.
Apple is hacked from the firmware level. This information was released in January. The data on your Apple device can definitely can be hacked.
they disguise what they are using to collect your data and activities by inventing stupid names that make no sense and appear harmless.

Why would anyone use real name with the phone

Why would anyone use an iPhone?
When your OS is free YOU are the product.

Time to return to payphones and landlines, hand written letters, and face-to-face/body-to-body (no fake-time) conversations.
I trust google less than I trust Apple
That's like saying you trust the Devil more than Satan.
Lifelong conditioning to choose the lesser of two evils. You donβt have to shoot up a school to be brainwashed.

Precisely why they use an Apple with a bite out of it for the logo. We are all sinners but they seem proud of it.
How? The controls are all easier to get to on Android and are in more sensible places. Fixing my mom's iPhone was always a nightmare until I finally got her to listen to me instead of the salesman and get a Motorola.
Step one: return apple products.
step two: decrease smartphone use.
step three: use burner phone.
Kekistan entry step: drop windoooz and apple and go Linux or BSD.
Really? By Jove, How did those families keep together without Apple?
when you really drill down, the effort to stay free is worth more than the ease to sell your data and be dependent on such parties as Apple.
Really? Now we are talking lockdown, instead of connection?

Didnβt they already know this
No, it came with the new diary app, itβs only a few months old at most. Donβt know its English name.
What about us anti-tech people who don't own a cell phone? π π
Winning. According to Snowden, we have power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dGqR4ue8dg
wow, that should keep it from spying!

Thank you x 10. I just updated my phone and sure enough, that was on.
Iβve been dodging the updates forever lol.
Thanks for the tip. Interesting how itβs ON by default.
Thanks, just turned my off!
Thank you just deactivated!!
Anything for Android?
Turn off Clean Energy charging too. Under battery health
Why have a smartphone at all?
I have an old iPhone 6S Plus that works just great for me and it does not have that feature. Going to keep my phone which is not 5G until it croaks.
I donβt have journaling under privacy & security?
I don't see it either, but I do see A "Research Sensor"....
Haven't updated - when I do, I'll definitely follow this suggestion. Thanks!
Thanks, Pede, done.
Dont have the option to turn it off because i refuse to update the software
