WUT? Catch 22! Incandescent bulbs with pleasant light were banned. They could be disposed of in the trash. We were forced to buy the very ugly spiral fluorescent light bulbs with harsh light, that we cannot put in the trash but have to recycle responsibly, but community recycling won't take them!! Most of what we’re told is recyclable isn’t actually recyclable. Fluorescent bulbs included. And of the stuff that’s hauled away to be ‘recycled’ with the daily trash. Most of it still ends up in landfills. Ironically the old products we were told were more environmentally unfriendly and unsustainable. Are overall more easily recyclable and repairable than the modern products supposedly made with that in mind.

Fun fact. Most of the plastic waste that ends up in the world’s oceans comes from a handful of rivers in Asia, and Africa. Yet it’s Western nations that regularly catch the blame for it.

As an aside. Whoever invented LED Headlights needs to get punched in the jaw.

NO KIDDING!

Was this light bulb change "mandated" by Congress or by unaccountable EPA regulations??

I understand, as a logistician, total life-cycle management from creation to disposal, including $ cost and environmental impact at each stage.

These lefties mandate energy solutions, without considering the mining consequences to third world people and the ultimate disposal. They are well-meaning?? NO these ppl are STUPID and self-serving!

And they can't even help us get rid of LIGHT BULBS that they mandated?!? SHEESH!

But for crying out loud, WHY all the insane regulations which make no sense?? Other than just the insane desire for control over the least aspects of our lives. Like light bulbs!! Which cannot be recycled?!? Where is a good address that we can all mail our forced-purchase light-bulbs that we can't get rid of??

I am willing to take the expense of mailing them, if there is a massive enough movement . . .

So did I. Still have plenty of them. Also I use non-LED full spectrum bulbs. They are more expensive but they do seem to last longer. I like the light they give off and I don't have to worry about microwave exposure that comes with LEDs. The intense blue light from LEDs will wreck your eyes. Besides, I can throw them in the trash.

I still buy them from 1000bulbs.com (Amazon won't ship incandescent to Commiefornia). They don't have many options left but the ones I buy are 118 watt street lamp bulbs which, funny enough, are rated at 8000 hours instead of 1200 hours. So weird they can make them last that much longer in a commercial application.

I run them on a dimmer for fixtures that are rated lower than 120 watt, problem solved.

▲ 3 ▼

They could probably make bulbs that last 20 years that wouldn't be significantly more expensive, but that would hurt revenue flow.

Thanks!

Still bugs me that gov't mandates stuff that is IMPOSSIBLE!

Sustainable life-cycle management has been known for decades! That was the standard when I was in R&D.

How is child mining not acknowledged as part of life-cycle management of "renewable" energy? How can their lives be compensated?? And then, the disposal of EV batteries, solar panels, wind vanes?? WUT? How is that sustainable environmentalism?? By casual observation, it is not sustainable, not environmental friendly, and positively destructive to those mining for these "renewable" energies?!?

That is not science. That is not renewable logistics. It is pure ideology meant to subject society to, well to what? What do they gain by this absurdity? Help me out here . . .

Remember guys: It is the blue LED based bulbs that are bad for you (light wise). You can get Red LED bulbs that are very good for your health and vision if you use them at night.,,,,Although, full spectrum bulbs are good for you in you live in an area that is overcast most of the time. Like the ones used in "the happy light" and similar brands.

So, I suppose that my meter to check for microwave signals is an illusion. Check it yourself. I was shocked when I saw the levels of microwave signals that a simple table lamp put out. I don't use them anymore. LEDs are part of the LiFi wireless system they want to upgrade to. There are plenty of patents that incorporate LEDs into the internet of things.

Guess what? Most "recyclable" items still end up in a landfill, and it isn't because we don't put that crap in the recycling bins. It's because most items are too expensive to recycle, or when they're recycled, their shelf life and/or service life is diminished.

This bulb mandate is an example of government tyranny against ordinary citizens. I just got back from our township recycling day; I had to make an appointment. They take fluoresecent bulbs but NOT the "tiny" ones we were forced to buy instead of incandescent bulbs for all our lamps and overhead lighting!

So back into our garage storage for something UGLY we were forced to buy but cannot easily get rid of! WUT?? They are allowed to do this to us?? WHY?? HOW??

If Q did not say anything about this, he at least implied it . . .

from my limited search (basically no mercury but can/do contain other dangerous substances):

Do LED Bulbs Contain Mercury? LED lights are gaining popularity because they are more energy-efficient than other lighting options such as fluorescent lights. Also, unlike other ordinary light bulbs that contain dangerous materials, LEDs are safe to use. What about mercury content? Do LED bulbs contain mercury? Let’s find out.

Do LED Bulbs Contain Mercury? No, LED bulbs do not contain mercury. Unlike other traditional lighting options that include mercury, LED bulbs do not have any traces of mercury. They also have a low impact on the environment compared to incandescent bulbs because they use less energy than CFLs.

Moreover, LED lights reduce power bills and produce superior quality light. However, some LED lights might contain arsenic, lead, and other dangerous substances, which can pose environmental and health concerns.

(Liberal think) Someone invented a light source that uses less energy. If we make "everyone" use them, we'll save the planet!! They're more expensive. Don't care. Some use mercury and are toxic. Don't care. No one will recycle them as it is too expensive. Don't care. Landfills fill up with toxic waste. Don't care. People want old style bulbs for certain applications. Don't care. Ergo, the planet is not saved, in fact it's worse off than before. The country has absorbed a huge unnecessary, perhaps destructive dollar cost. The light from these devices has been blamed for health problems in users. Don't care. Brought to you by LIBERALS. Same thing every time.

EXACTLY and why do these anti-science and anti-environmental bureaucrats get to implement these insane regulations?!?

Who bribed them is maybe the question, government picking winners and losers instead of the market place? Who benefits? Not the homeowners, not the environment they pretend to care about.

I contend that individual small-holders of farms and homes care FAR MORE about the environment than the bureaucrats do. WE LIVE in the environment! We want the best environment!

Someone is paying to have these absurd regulations operating as though they had the force of enacted law. Who benefits? as clearly we do not and the environment does not.
