Marines can be weekend warriors too, js. Every branch of the military also has a reserve component, and I’ve seen fatties in every corner of it. The Marines do the best job of weeding them out however.

Upon graduation he was sent to CA to language school to learn the Turkish language (Who knew in our family he had a knack for that?). He did his military stint then overseas in Turkey. Had a ball dickering in the Turkish markets for bargains with the natives. Of course, we were not in any major wars at the time. After he left active duty, he joined the Reserves. And he specifically sought to join active guard units. He was called up for the riots in LA, CA as he was located there at the time. He moved back to the east coast and while he was working in NJ. He decided to join an active guard unit in NY instead. He then moved to PA and joined an active guard group there. He volunteered to serve in Bosnia for a year with the Turkish Army. He was the only American there at the time. Following his return he was put in charge of a NG division in PA where half their forces were already in Iraq. A year later he himself ended up serving in Iraq under Geneal Patraeus. He returned stateside a year later. He stuck around for awhile in the guard but decided to retire only a few years ago.
