Honestly, they seemed kinda weirded out. Brought them in one at a time. One cautiously licked his face, the rest seemed uncomfortable and stayed by the door.

Rejoice! I had a beautiful Golden retriever who had a leg removed due to cancer, he wasn’t as fast, but he got around very well. Big issue is to keep his weight healthy. Our tendency is too treat too much.

Can't wait to pick him up after work today. All the people know he's ok(ish) and have done our own little happy dances, but the other dogs have been so mopey. I bet there will be joyful waggles all night.
You have been through this? How long did it take before yours adapted and found balance to walk again? We made room in the shed for him to recover in. I'm very nervous about having to pick him up to carry him in and out of it. Getting him into the car while hurt was traumatic for all of us. I have no idea what to expect, haven't had the chance to ask the vet yet. Any insight from personal experience would help tremendously. I don't like the unknown, and want to mentally prepared.
I got my dog a kids t-shirt that fit snug to keep the bandages in place. It worked well and she didn’t mess with her dressings. I was amazed at her resilience. She did just fine with one leg. Your pup will need a shallow food and water bowl to eat from a laying position.
A plate or shallow bowl to eat and drink from was the one thing that was most helpful. I was shocked how well she adapted. She had a few stumbles when she started running, but not many. Not many at all.
Oh no, that's terrible, I'm so sorry 😢 prayers for your pupper. I know it's not much, but most dogs do pretty well on three legs, let's hope for the at best option.

Heavenly Father we lift up eyerighteye and this family's prayer for healing for their dog. Lord you said no prayer is too small and your eye is even on the sparrow. That any prayer asked by a righteous heart will be heard and granted in your son's name.

Guys...... I'm sorry to tell you....he passed last night.
Sometimes we pray and the answer is no. God is still good. Onyx gave us unconditional love for six years, sired 9 puppies and even has some grand pups. He was the bestest boy. We will never forget how he used to run around full of joy. He made our lives so much better and we were blessed to have him in our family. He will be missed, and never forgotten.
Bless you all for giving my family much needed love and support when we were hurting. I'm trying my best not to be angry at the vet for giving us false hope. It isn't his fault the dog was able to chase cars. It isn't his fault that Onyx may have been more injured than he realized. Life is hard. Life can be cruel. Sometimes things don't seem fair. I want you all to know how much my family appreciated all your prayers and well wishes. I want you to know you are loved, as he was, and I will meet you, and him at the end of this all.
I'm crying too much to keep typing, sorry. And thank you. Your compassion had touched us deeply. None of us will ever forget.

I had my boy read all your well wishes and prayers. It consoled him in a way I hadn't managed to. We are trying to not think about it, about to play a board game. Bottle is staying on the shelf. Grown up shit is hard.
Doggo is a black lab named Onyx. With luck he'll answer to tricycle after a while. He was in so much pain, but when I called his name he tried to get up and walk to me. I cannot shake that vision. I love him so much, we all do. He's the patriarch of the yard, we have two pups he sired and he's got some grand pups around town too.
Wish I could respond to you all individually, but I'm getting called to the table as it is. Seriously, love you all.

It's never the wrong time to do the next right thing. We had a great night(considering), played Carcassonne until the wee hours. Sure was a better choice than wallowing in self pity and getting shit faced.

I'm a little responsible. Dog's a Houdini, but I'm the one who stopped trying to contain him. He digs under fences and his neck is bigger than his head so he slips out of collars. He broke both shoulder harnesses we bought. He even broke a shock collar.
But I'm the one who let it slide and said F it. No one else. I'm also the one who just dropped my(finally accrued) cistern money on a dog without a guaranteed outcome. If my family runs out of water, now that will be my fault too.
But yeah, gotta go dad now. Tears away, tough face on. "There is no solution, seek it lovingly"
The fact that you feel remorse for a past decision shows you are a good person. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your family needs you. No matter what happens as long as you put your family first and stick together you can make it through.

It's amazing how fast dogs adapt to a loss of a limb. My buddy had a dog we all called "Tripod". Similar circumstance, dogo took on a car and got the bad end of the stick. After surgery, he was up and around walking quickly adapting. I'll include them in my prayers tonight.

The best investment for the safety of your pup is a doggie crate. That is their safe space. Many people think that doggos should be allowed to run around free, but they are dogs, not people. They don't know that cars are dangerous, or that there are evil dognapping rings that want to fight your dog in illegal dogfights. Of course, you let doggo out all the time, and allow them to sleep on your bed. But you also put them in when you need to the dishes or something. This world is too dangerous for them to run around, as you just found out. I am praying for your pup, and your son.
My three legged dog sneaked out the door as our chain link fence was being repaired. He always had a fenced in yard ,went through a very small gap . We live 2 houses from a very busy street.

Still waiting on word. He is at vet sedated. Doc was apparently way backed up today already, I won't update until he's out of surgery and I know 100%.
There is concern his shoulder blade was driven into him and there is damage not visible on x ray. Amputation we can afford, organ damage we can't. Sucks. They say his vitals look good, and he's stable but refused to state confidently what the outcome will be. Guess doc won't know until he's in there. That might not be until around 10. I'm as anxious to know as you fren.
I have everyone who responded written down so I can tag you all in once I have word. Y'all have such big hearts. I hope I can share some good news soon.
