Government should be about 1/10th the size it is now, they should worry singularly with fundamental issues, like (real) infrastructure, legislation, law enforcement, that's it.
Reality is that 99.9% of "social programs" are money laundering scams, most of these "social issues" are created by these fuckers to begin with... in a true free society you wouldn't have not even a fraction of all the trivial social problems we see now, and people would focus on real issues... and then fix them.
Government should self fund with tariffs, royalties on use of natural resources or some such, holding of events, there are so many ways this could work without having to fucking dip into the hard earned income of the people...
Need to fix a road/light-post/fence whatever? get a quote on how much it would cost, then make an announcement on the local community where that road sits, it's on the people living there own interest to contribute and get it done, all the local administration has to do is to assess the costs, find the best contractor, manage the fund raising then oversee the job.

I suspect that even 1/10 of the size it is now is far too much for the Federal Government. The Federal Government is only needed to help the States deal with each other. Even the military should be a joint effort between the states. Everything should be a joint effort between the states. That is what the Federal Government should be. In fact I believe the States should fund the Federal Government not the people. There are different ways for the States to fund themselves without taxing the people.
For sure, the federal portion should be the smallest, all they have to do is manage the real macro of it all, since most action happens at the local level.
About everything being a "joint effort" I'm not sure, the more decentralized the better, of course when it comes to the national military force that is a given, and of course you gotta have properly regulated commerce between states/internationally for everything to flow smoothly, but for everything else idk
Joint effort is just my way of saying that the Federal Government is not above the states. The Federal Government is just a construct of the States in order for the states to work together.
We do not have a constitution FOR the United States. We have a constitution OF the United States.
The 50 states have agreed to the constitution. The 50 states vote to determine who will be President. The people control the States. If one state goes off the rails that state falls apart under its own weight. The people are free to go to one of the other 49.
