Moderating a forum is difficult. Lots of energy and time go into it. One of the hardest things is not succumbing to the power trip—the superior, holier-than-thou, hoity-toity dictator schtick where you talk down to lowly forum members from an ivory tower as if they were parasites.
It's an uneven playing field, and they know it.
Mods get to talk to you in the most sarcastically and viciously condescending, hateful, personally insulting way (see OP's experience); and you don't get to even think of objecting, let alone reciprocating. They can and will gleefully ban you for questioning something they say or stating an opinion they disagree with; you can't even register a legitimate complaint against them. It's taboo. They're an invisible, unvetted, unaccountable authority over your ability to express yourself among your peers—about things far more important than some neckbeard's overinflated ego.
Perfect example = OP. No one should ever be talked to like that by a moderator. The moderator should never have been given the responsibility and should be removed immediately.
The best ones (and we have quite a few here on GAW!) nobly resist these powerful tendencies to abuse their 'authority', and they serve the members as one of the People. Kudos to you guys (you know who you are :)

My last communication with that mod was laughing and mocking him for being the person who could be most corrupted over the least amount of people on a forum that peaked at 100 users.

Honestly mods should be there to just remove stuff that's illegal: things the actual website owner would get in trouble for just for having on his server. Then after that let the users up vote down vote stuff set up a threshold where with enough down votes the thing gets hidden but people can optionally bring it up to read it if they want.
I think the accountability is the crux of this issue. Do away with hidden, or "quiet" bans and suspensions. Ultra transparency. A moderator should have to publicly post what actions they're taking and why.
And there should be a legitimate appeal process besides appealing to the same person or people who just banned/suspended you.

I lost my 3rd account over there around the last elections. I knew the mods were frothing at the mouth for anyone not gay trans minority who believed in a macrobiotic diet, otherwise you're a nazi. I tried very simple spoon feeding techniques to trigger thoughts, but once a mod figured you were counter their agenda, you got punted.
I wish it was like the beginning days of the internet, for those old enough to remember. AOL was a big player and LOVED the forums because of hacking programs like AOHell and AOHarley. You use to be able to go into message boards "ghost" other participants. Make it look like someone you didnt like posted something. It was great fun to stir up shit on people. You use to also be able to "punt" people from the board. where they would have to log back in.
I digress, but the spirit of the message above is that I cannot wait until we're able to toy with our prey like a cat. That day is coming and I feel it will go a long ways to forcing those that are potentially savable to wake up. I know, if you are not seeing wat is going on by now, you're a lost cause, but I think it's a momentum play. After each reveal, more will shake away the mental chains that bind them to this realm.

Well it happens. I’ve been trying to keep a fairly low profile on reddit. Recently I’ve been trying to push a little harder on superstonk. I think the financial crimes will wake people up big time, then the sick shit will piss them off.
I have got banned from a few subreddits at this point, but I still have my original account. I posted on but never subscribed to /r/the_donald so that may have prevented it.
I did have a huge post which got a lot of karma and somehow got that karma removed from my account. I was given a BS explanation but really didn't give a shit about it anyways. It only happened after I posted in /r/politics and averaged -50 karma or so per post going against the narrative by asking questions that had obvious answers, so I figured it was related.
The post itself got over 60k upvotes, and the karma was removed from my totals.
I am likely outing myself to any Reddit mods with this, but I was banned from /r/eatcheapandhealthy for saying sour cream and onion potato chips were not healthy.
I was told I don't get to decide what is healthy and unhealthy.
I believe the mod had it out for me because he tried to refute me a few times and I posted .gov links which showed he was wrong.
In other words, that board did not allow one to state monosodium glutamate was a bad thing, but I used .gov sources to drive the same conclusions home in a different fashion.
