Went to make a deposit to First Citizens Bank two days ago. The amount was less than $500. The tell asked for my ID. I got pretty loud and asked what she needed it for. She stated they are now required to document every single cash deposit.
I believe it's time to stop using banks. Hmmm I wonder what those new 87,000 IRS agents will be up to...
What does it matter if you’re depositing into an account already linked to your identity?
Bingo. It might make it a little easier, but idk about you guys, when I set up my bank accounts, they got everything short of a print of my asshole on file. I'm working on de-banking but it's a struggle in this automated world.
photocopying assholes has gotten tricky since the covid protocols
....or MONKEYPOX! Kek.
Yeah Kinkos is very much not cool with it any more, not sure what the big deal is really? I brought alcohol wipes to clean it off for the next guy
It didn’t go over well when I asked to see the manager after they shut me down at Pop Copy
It's MAAAAAA'AMMMMMM!!!!!!!!
I sent them mine
looks like this *
assterisk
Fuckin kek. RIP my sides
I sent them a print of your asshole later. They have everything. They have it all.
I left very strict, specific instructions with my bank. If anyone tries to deposit cash in my account, just let them do it. No ID required
In case someone else makes the deposit...they want to know who.
ok but the depositor can’t be harassed by the taxman like the recipient can be
With the proposed influx of agents they can and bet they will... Remember, its' pronounced theIRS!
Hopefully true. I don't know that they keep a record...yet, anyway.
as if fake IDs aren't a thing for people who want to do shady shit
I think they’re trying to stop anonymous crypto type transactions.
There are some folks who will give out bank account numbers and if you deposit into their account with a memo of your crypto wallet id, they’ll take a cut but put most of your money into your wallet.
That way your deposit is anonymous into your anonymous wallet. It’s really untraceable.
Guess they want to make sure no one puts $500 bucks in my account! Can’t tell you how many times it’s happened!
Could be anti laundering or tax evasion measures.
Haha yeah, anti laundering and tax evasion at the under 500$ level..
If thats true, why have they never done it before? Do you know how long laundering and tax evasion has been an issue?
Did you know crypto makes up most of that nowadays?
Perhaps it is because of cryptocurrencies that they have to implement new measures- to be on the look out for structured transactions, 'mules' making small deposits across multiple accounts, - look, im no pro. lol
Use the ATM... just place it in the envelope and slide it in, no ID needed to put cash or check into your account.
No but they've got video doing it that way.
They've got video at the teller counter too.
Just deposit checks through mobile app if you're with some big bank. ProTip: Leave big banks and switch to local credit union.
Credit unions, people. We've preached this for a few years now.
Bingo, can confirm, wife is a banker. They ask for ID to make sure you’re actually on the account. This is to combat money laundering.
If you have cash, hang on to it and spend cash. If we don't keep using it, the assholes in DC will try to take it away from us.
They'll do that regardless.
yes happened to me to at a PNC
Cash deposits? No way. I've been taking cash withdrawals every week for over a year.
I use my mobile app to deposit, so it hasn't happened to me. We rarely have checks to put in there anyway. :'(
The OP is talking about cash.
Sorry.
No worries, just fyi. Sorry that sounded rude.
It wasn't. I was busy when I read your reply. ;)
Uh…I’d like to know what bank DOESN’T do this…I have always provided my ID for every transaction.
I use the atm.
I am actually curious about people who do go into the bank nowadays. I haven't needed to speak to a teller in ages ( i think I was closing on my house and needed a cashier's check). What's going on in there?
Notarizations, opening new accounts or closing out accounts.
I go inside a bank weekly to cash or deposit a check from helping my Grama with chores, there’s nothing sketch and they haven’t asked me to do anything strange or out of the ordinary.
But why must you do that inside the bank? Just curious.
Because they changed ALL the outside tellers to automatic ATMs. I like having cash on hand and to cash my check takes 10 more steps than just waking in and cashing it with a human. I found out quickly how much I hate the new installs lol
I’ve been asked to call ahead and wait a week to withdraw cash of more than $1000.
I withdraw 1000-1400 every month with zero issues. They never ask why (they shouldn’t) and they just do what I ask.
Fuck that! Just structure your withdrawals with the ATM. Typically they have a 500 a day limit
$10 of beer... $60 cash back
Exactly
That's more a sign that your bank can barely keep any cash on it, and has to work to get that much money in their tills
Know what you deposit interest rate is and know that it is not worth depositing money there, period.
It's always happened...nothing new.
Not for me lol. Make lots of cash deposits for my small business
Same thing happened to me a few days ago…first time! I went to put 300 in my wife’s credit Union. They wanted last four of phone, ss, and date of birth. I said I’m just making a deposit! She said they have to have info. It was weird to me.
Big city or small town? Maybe that makes a difference. In Mayberry towns the tellers already know you…but for $500 seems strange still for a deposit even if they don’t know you. They’ll get pretty wound up about $10,000 or more though. If I had $10,000 to deposit I would buy gold coins and buy a good safe.
I use a paycard from work, will be switching over to another kind of prepaid card for direct deposit/online purchases when this one expires. I haven't done banks for a few years now
That's always been the case with my bank. Then again I mostly use the ATM
It's silly isnt it. I would be telling them they are documenting it, it's my account. And if I am not me, I dont appreciate you putting obstacles in the way of folk wanting to make deposits into my account
I was told I could not make a cash deposit into my son's account the other day! Since it was not my own account, cash couldn't go in - only checks. Now that seemed backward to me!
Wait...your putting money IN the bank?! Why?
Been seeing more banks popping up around me lately than I have in the last 40 years I lived in this town. Wonder what theyre planning.
I was asked for ID to deposit checks at Wells Fargo!
Switch to local credit union
Get a bunch of 20's from the ATM, take them in and ask for 10s. I can't find 10s anywhere. Flood the system.
I was thinking actually, go in with a stack of 1's and make them deposit each of them separately to show them they need quit listening to the government and run their business for the customers.
Maybe they put the tracker for IRS on the $300 in the inflation bill that the commies passed. Remember them talking a lot about that early in Biden's presidency (boy that sounds strange). It was going to be notification of $600 or more, now it may be $300 or more.
I'm not sure if that is true elsewhere but it must be a slow day at that bank. With all the cash floating around, waiting for people to dig out their ID's is nuts. I guess it will be against the law soon to sell an old lawn mower at a yard sale where the buyer gives you $100 in cash and you try to deposit it? Next time go to the drive through window. Give them the cash with completed deposit slip.
My PNC is asking me to 'update' my account & credit card and prove my income.
You have a credit card through them? If so, it might be to adjust your credit limit up/down to better match take home pay, and potentially reduce credit risk for themselves.
Are there banks that don’t ask for id?
I just spent 3 weeks taking care of my elderly mother with what appears to be moderate dementia. My dad gave me a check for 250 to have cash on my way home in case of emergencies, anyway I took the check to PNC and they needed my license and a major credit card to cash it as well as taking a 2% fee cause I don’t bank there…, it was ridiculous really the more I think about it…
Havent used a bank in ... 10 years
Over a year now they have been doing it.
