i once made a list of all the ways the word "slave" is used in the English language, and the list was 3 pages long. i was even surprised by how prevalent this concept is in the way that English-speaking people conceptualize the world around them.
for example, in computers we have master drives and slave drives.
in cars, we have master cylinders and slave cylinders.
there really isn't an adequate word to replace these concepts, as they describe the role that each component plays in a system.
if we expand the concept of "master" to other fields,
such as martial arts "master", a "masters" degree, and a "master" plumber, and a "master" key holder (landlord)
then we can expand the concept of "slave" to include apprentice, student, tenant.
we are all here mostly wage slaves.
