Fark. I lived in Nigeria during the eighties. We lived in guarded compounds with glass shards in the tops of the walls. The windows were barred and the verandah was in a cage. We often had bleeding individuals appear on our doorstep, because taxi drivers knew that my mum would at least help with bandages, at any hour of the day. The attackers were armed gangs that attacked people coming from the airport. Supermarkets often had nothing to sell. We would overcome that by filling our suitcases, from Europe, with preserved meat, cheese and sardines, and would have to stock a supply of cheap-but-expensive-looking watches, to bribe the border guards, to get the food in.
My dad was held at gunpoint for 48 hours, because he carried a briefcase into the hinterland on a small plane, to discuss some business, and he had some papers in there. The insane individuals believed the briefcase was full of cash, and were screaming at him to gib-de-money. Luckily the pilot saw what was happening and managed to alert someone. Yeah everything that was not bolted down there was stolen too. I don't know what it is like now in Lagos - but the company my dad was working for, has left the Nigerians to it. We had rolling blackouts everyday, and so had a thumping diesel generator in the compound, with a chap who would turn it on and maintain it, who also lived in the compound.

I have a distant cousin, ex SA army. Born in SA to British parents able to get or has Brit passport.
His wife has Afrikaans heritage and his children are SA born.
He couldn’t get to the UK as she doesn’t “ fit” the model for eligibility.
He gave up trying 20 years ago.

Stayed with relatives in Cape Town in the late 90s having just visited Zimbabwe.

Yesterday I met a local business guy who is originally from South Africa. He has businesses in the US and South Africa. They are on rolling 4-hour blackouts in SA and are using diesel generators to supplement power.
Q mentions "SA" in quite a few posts. Most, including me, seem to take that as Saudi Arabia or secondarily South America. Less likely but perhaps possible is SA = South Africa.

Sounds exactly like what has been happening here in the inner cities of the US - little to no education, poverty, and a huge sense of entitlement. Lots of rage and frustration with nowhere constructive to express it or defuse it. I am sure that once the retail stores are closed off to the thieving flash mobs, they will start destroying the infrastructure. Once they completely trash their own communities they will branch out to the burbs. That may be harder though, because we have guns. The trans BS seems to be coming from white commies that were indoctrinated and radicalized in college. So we have a common denominator here - education. Either the lack of a proper education to prepare someone for life, or, education that was hijacked and perverted. We are not going to change anything in our countries until education is addressed. Unfortunately, that is more of a long term project that does little to help us in our current situations. Ugh! They don't make bourbons big enough.

There was a Twitter thread yesterday from a guy in the ground that painted a bleak picture of a failed infrastructure that is escalating out of control.
I thought of Purkiss and thought well when I see it from him he’s my trusted news source.
It was pretty grim reading almost dystopian whereby for example a $1000 piece of infrastructure is being stolen for a $1 of scrap metal .
He has mentioned the 9 or more hours of blackouts per DAY here a couple of times.
That's exactly the just of it...But it doesn't stop there...They Steal EVERYTHING...Signposts, Streetlamps, Anything that is not bolted and cemented into the ground...And even then its not safe... Problem with them giving us a daily schedule of when the power will be cut...It also lets the fucking criminals know when they can go to which area that's without power and steal the fucking copper cables which provide said electricity when its available....So what do you do??...Its fucking insane....lose-lose situation...
Fark. I lived in Nigeria during the eighties. We lived in guarded compounds with glass shards in the tops of the walls. The windows were barred and the verandah was in a cage. We often had bleeding individuals appear on our doorstep, because taxi drivers knew that my mum would at least help with bandages, at any hour of the day. The attackers were armed gangs that attacked people coming from the airport. Supermarkets often had nothing to sell. We would overcome that by filling our suitcases, from Europe, with preserved meat, cheese and sardines, and would have to stock a supply of cheap-but-expensive-looking watches, to bribe the border guards, to get the food in.
My dad was held at gunpoint for 48 hours, because he carried a briefcase into the hinterland on a small plane, to discuss some business, and he had some papers in there. The insane individuals believed the briefcase was full of cash, and were screaming at him to gib-de-money. Luckily the pilot saw what was happening and managed to alert someone. Yeah everything that was not bolted down there was stolen too. I don't know what it is like now in Lagos - but the company my dad was working for, has left the Nigerians to it. We had rolling blackouts everyday, and so had a thumping diesel generator in the compound, with a chap who would turn it on and maintain it, who also lived in the compound.
Such a noice country, we still have PTSD from the experience.
However, it sounds even worse in SA.
This is what they are doing to every country everywhere.

It's all gone and I don't see it coming back. The slow boil has finally caught up with ZA and it is now undeniable. Normalcy bias is a real bastard. No empty BS, if you need help let me know how I can do so. I don't know your background, age, or abilities, or anything about immigration for that matter but there are people willing to try and help. Is an Educational Visa for nursing or law enforcement and option? There are severe shortages in both of these areas where I live and with nursing, they are bringing in Filipino nurses by the thousands. Law enforcement can't seem to staff and there is a wage war ongoing between the local agencies trying to snipe each other's officers and deputies. Teachers are in short supply as are many positions in skilled trades.
I Really appreciate and value all the support you have all shown me...Its a difficult situation for me...As much as is going on here (I love My Country)I couldn't just leave my family(Sisters, In-laws, nephews and nieces) Im Single(By Choice) and have no kids.....Let's see what happens...But THANK YOU...🙏🏻
