There's no whistleblowers or leaks BECAUSE the military is in control.

Strong indications that operatives in the know have security clearances and cannot talk or they compromise the op-sec AND their oaths. Correct. Those of us that have or had clearances in the past learned to keep our mouths shut - it was a very important part of the job. Plus S3 and MP's were actively monitoring all of us, looking for any signs of compromise. All of us knowing that we were being actively watched by our own people actually helped, a lot.
Given all of that (and more), no leaks is not surprising. It is only surprising to non-military morons that literally could not keep their mouths shut if their lives depended on it. Since they themselves could not maintain OpSec, they mistakenly assume nobody else would be able to either. They are dead wrong.

The alternative dream I saw right after, was one filled with the US as a communist state and our lives fully controlled. If a state agent wanted to flirt with a married man, that man was obligated to give in if they wanted to see their family again. The family unit was broken up and things became fluid. I believe D-Day was leaked, but it was an intentional leak. The commanders leaked out they were building up an offense about 150-200 miles north of the actual landings. The Germans sent troops and equipment there based on those leaks. The art of war.

In the military the notion is that no civilian laws apply to military personnel, which makes the notion of 'talk and we will throw away the key' a very real and tangible thing for most people in the military, which is why even near 100% of your average gi-joe and remf tend to abide by the notion that you only talk about what you have been allowed to talk about to the people that have been allowed to hear it.
The people in the military doing the actual 'in control' part of this are not your average GI of remf and even though this is large enough to necessitate involvement of a lot of them the information sharing is very much a tiered dissemination system, military pretty much invented the concept of compartmentalization of information so what someone knows is very much proportional to their verified ability to keep quiet about it.
And as I said the notion of no civilian law/rights for military personnel makes even those avereage GI's and remfs very uninclined to share the close to nothing that they have been trusted with.
