Those "royal sources" are almost certainly William's brother, Harry, and his extremely destructive American wife, Meghan Markle.
Harry & Meghan quit royalty for the USA a few years ago, finding royalty to be too much work for not enough power; but now things have changed. The queen is dead and she was the one holding the whole show together. King Charles is ill and Prince William may well be king sooner than expected.
