I was let go from an adjunct online teaching job at a community college in my state because I was denied the religious exemption that I applied for. The HR Dept. there is very smug. So I filed a complaint with the State Civil Liberties Dept back in Jan 2022. The school actually hired a lawyer to deal with it (probably cost them more than my semester pay). I had to file so much paperwork for months and have not heard anything back from them since Dec 2022. Well, today I received notice from them that I have been found to have "Probable Cause" and they are scheduling a "Conciliation." I have no idea what that will do for me (someone else has my job) but it feels good to at least hear that I got this far. It was so much paperwork that I wanted to give up. Looking over all that paperwork, I cannot believe I did it.
Remember way back when we were discussing religious exemption for vaccines at work?
π - WINNING - π
Good for you! I'm very proud of you π€π» (congratulatory handshake)
Thanx fren!
No, thank you for fighting this fight! I love posts like this! I hope you get way more in compensation than if they had given you the job. God Bless you!!
Make sure to let us know the results
Yep. Always fight always resist.
Like the frog choking out the bird as he's going down the gullet lol.
Sue them for lost wages and attorney fees and "pain and suffering" if you are adjudicated.
And punitive! They need to pay dearly for violating your religious freedom!
Thank you. That was the word I was grasping for.
I got you, pede
How does one prove punitive? Asking for a fren.
Tell your fren to consult an attorney π
One thing learned the legal process is brutal. Especially to those whose rights have been infringed. So asking the board the question or perhaps for examples. If one did not seek counseling at the time punitive can be difficult to show.

And sue them for the loss in your career. Like, the wages from time of job loss plus ten years forward.
u/Raritan since you have probable cause, ask you attorney about that 10 years idea. I am not an attorney, though I wonder if attacking at an angle that you lost years towards a tenure would be another way to leverage this?
Maybe that doesn't apply to community colleges.
Hitting the school hard legally so they never violate individual freedoms of staff or students might be a good way to go. If precedent is already set, this might be a walk in the park compared to what you went through already.
Though I hear you on the paperwork. That legal stuff is rough.
I was just a contract worker. But I do think it will set a precedent and help others. But let's pray we never go through a mandated vaccine for work again. If the WHO (with a large financial input from the pharma companies) gets their way the end of this month - mandated vaccines could become the norm. We need to fight this.
Yes we do!
Yep
Oh no - more paperwork!
And violating HIPAA laws and discrimination, as far as Iβm concerned.
not technically a HIPAA violation, but should be. Your vaccine status is none of their business
^^ This - "not only was working in that role a life long dream, but the impact from being let go from that role and the fact that it was based on my religious, civil rights as well as body antimony, has rocked the foundation of my being. It continues to impact every aspect of my life since then."
Now (actually past due) is a great time to grab some sessions with a counselor / shrink. ;-) You have zero to lose and everything to gain. Note that when you get real serious with them, discovery can be a two way street. Be careful what you "document" in emails.
Your βwinβ is our win, hang in there fren!
Yes, The Great Awakening Win.
AMEN!!
Proud words ! I agree !!!
Awesome news fren! I work for the railroad and was adamant that I would file no exemption, religious or medical, and I would not quit either. I was prepared to make them fire me for jab refusal so that I could sue the whale shit out of them later on. Luckily it never came to that. Blessings!
Mine was a contract job. You only get a contract each semester so I had to bite the bullet.
Keep up the good fight. You are in the driver's seat because you didn't back down. Don't worry about the outcome, just keep your spirits up. You might walk out of the hearing with a nice check, just so the school can sweep this under the rug. BTW, if you do get a check and if you are a believer in God, give Him a tithe. You will be blessed.
Yes I am a believer and will do that.
Or tithe directly to others who are still suffering from the covid mess.
You Fren, Are a patriot. You did what you needed to do when it wasnβt easy or a sure thing. That is what this country needs at this time. Good job.
Thanks. Honestly I was scared doing it but this community helped me to muster up some courage. This is the best Internet group I have found.
Congratulations to my pure bloods out there fighting the system! Go get'em
Praise to God.
Look like God was my lawyer ;-)
Amen.
sue them for EVERYTHING you can.
they are hoping you don't.
but... you've taken them this far, keep going & make them regret it
I fucking hate HR, never liked them at any job Iβve ever had
They have too much power.
They try to overwhelm the "plebs" with bureaucracy in all corners to defeat you by exhaustion and frustration. Glad you kept up with it.
For sure.
Wow - my first stickie!
Great news fren, make that bastards pay.
And pay again.
The HR Director is so elitist that she will be stunned that she didn't win. The very mention of HR at that school makes everyone who teaches there shiver. The school has already paid a lawyer to deal with all my paperwork that was sent in over months. I bet all of this will go into HER personnel file. But I was glad to see that my religious exemption letter was accepted by the state. I just read it and I know in my heart that I was sincere.
Curious if the community college is state run? So if your exemption was accepted by the state, but not the school, should be a good case. Either way, time is on your side. Look at how much more awake the world is now to this compared to when you filed. Keep going fren!!!
Never forget.

hmm, id still go get a lawyer, i suspect they're trying to "preempt" the risk of a larger litigation exposure.
Probably because the other choice (besides the conciliation) is litigation.
For them this is already litigation, you are in a process that has legal ramifications for you both. Now that youβre this far, I would encourage you to find legal counsel. They might be able to get you more money or reinstatement than you could negotiate yourself, and it shouldnβt be too hard to get someone to do this on contingency now that youβve gotten past the first huge hurdle. Please consider it. I have been through this type of situation and it really helps to have counsel.
Thank you for this advice. Is there any particular type of lawyer that I should choose (type of practice)?
Employee law is an area of practice.
Thanks
I found a law group in the County where the workplace is located that does employee law. There is free consultation and they work for the plaintiff on a contingency basis. Thanks for the tip. I am going to call them tomorrow.
Excellent! Go get βem!
Settling outside of court is actually good to keep costs down for both parties.
TORT ! Intentional infliction of suffering or harm. With no avenue of recourse or mitigation. Be strong and consult an attorney.
God is with you.
Congrats on fighting as a believer against the giant. May God bless you & be close to you moving forward.
I bet the paperwork was to make you give up,also the lawyer was to intimidate you. And cover their ass for firing you for no just reason and find a loop hole. I hope you get a year or 2 salary as a reward
This means you have all the leverage now. Find others who were let go and class action the school. Make them pay for trying to force you to inject an experimental drug in your body.
Online? Vaccine mandate?
So ridiculous...
Congrats sir!
Way to hang in there, fren - congratulations!
Here was my exemption π
God speed fren!!!
Congratulations on using common sense. When this was going on, I was passing the religious exemption to everyone who would listen or take the form. Many in my family thought I was crazy, of course these are the people who are currently sick in the family. Kudos to you for standing your ground and fighting, like many of us did. God Bless!
πππ Iβm so glad that you stuck with it. Canβt wait to hear report back on how well you did. Keep fighting.
Wow, great pereverance. Cases like yours will make schools and businesses think twice next go around.
Congratulations on being relentless, fighting, standing up for your beliefs which in turn helps others and Winning! You did exactly what we are supposed to do when faced with unreasonable demands. We all forget (I do) how hard it was to say no to ALL BS Authority when they were hearing from leaders around the country that we should all get vaxxed, it was best AND so often we were called out as dangerous and stupid for not going along. So not only did you not go along but you fought back and won! Remember all weβve endured. We are exactly what is needed going forward which btw is the exact opposite of what the DS is trying to create with lgbtqβ¦ agenda.
I pressed 4th amendment, showed my manager the document and the article in the constitution that shows the penalty for violating civil rights. They never bothered anyone else about it again.
Filing religious exemption only protects you (temporarily) asserting your rights protects everyone
So proud of you and so thankful you may receive something for standing your ground and fighting back!! You are a HERO!
People keep thinking that we need to win all these big battles, but its actually these little battles everyday that really matter.
the thousand papercuts
Keep fighting.
Nice! Screw them!
