Also, please be vigilant and look out for SCAM websites that might also appear to be doing the safety-check but are, in fact, mischievously collecting your info!!!
Epoch Times’ site was pay-walled for me so, I didn’t look at the article and sites. They are likely legit. This is a warning about other sites that might not be…
Just a reminder to be cautious with any of these sites.
There are sure to be a bunch of fake ones popping up to take advantage of people’s concerns.
Whenever one of these breaches occurs, I know I should check to see if my info was compromised but I'm always reluctant to do so (even now) because which sites are legit and which aren't? And if they are legit, who's to say they won't be compromised soon?
In 2008, all you needed to give to request a new SSN card was an address and a name.
That was open to fraud and addressed. So you need to give them a birth year instead now.
Pretty sure a site that asks for anything rather that just presenting the data they have with filters is gonna be a scam. If they already have the SSN and name, giving the birth year let’s them request a new one.
Who might want SSN cards for some election?
This info may not be correct anymore, but I’d definitely double check it.
Well all the check site asked for is first name, last name, state, and year of birth. It's not like it's requiring one to enter the SSN - Drv Lic - or other personally identifying information.
Seriously though;
Everyone should have a credit monitoring service of some sort.
FIRST, call your bank, credit untion, and credit cards;
Almost all of these companies seem to offer products / services like this, whether for a small fee, or FREE.
This just gives you some added protection of alerting you whenever your credit is pulled, any accounts are opened, changes to your credit score, etc.
VERY cheap insurance.
I recently heard of this & it sounds like a great concept:
www.aura.com
I haven't made the time to even read a single review / I'm definitely NOT endorsing it; just letting my frens know that services like this exist & sound pretty cool.
I think I heard about it on a major YouTube channel.
I was already notified by OnAlert that my ssn was found on there. I already have free screening for maybe another year from my bank due to my mortgage company having had a breach. I already have a freeze on all 3 of my credit profiles.
Our data was stole long ago. It's just noise to cause panic and ppl begging the corrupt government to create a new system so ppl can feel safe. It's the wolf telling the sheep the gray wolf just hired will keep them safer then the first wolf that failed.
I like so far it is cheaper than Lifelock and they have a team that is available 24/7 over the phone to help you with any issue. If you are a victim of fraud, our White Glove Resolution Specialists work with you to navigate bureaus and government institutions to resolve your fraud incident quickly.
I noticed that Experian and TransUnion only require the last 4 of your SSN, but Equifax requires the entire number. Does this make anyone else nervous?
Get a credit freeze on all reporting agencies (Experian, Trans Union, Equifax). This requires you to unfreeze your credit to perform anything credit related. This should protect your SSN number from being used to open fraudulent credit lines.
why are people whose identities have been stolen held accountable for other companies inability to verify their identity accurately? (or, i am not the one who loaned money to someone who wasn't actually me, so why should i be the one paying?)
how many congressmen recently bought shares in services like lifelock? (or, do we believe this was actually an "accident"?)
I mean, I completely forgot about some of the addresses this thing showed... but only going back to about 15 years ago and nothing since owning now three houses with none of them listed - but every single apartment I sneezed in is listed. And some I know I used at odd times in the mid-90's but wouldn't have expected to see on here... it was quite a nostalgic look really :)
I am on the list. Coincidentally, I have been getting notices from the 'big 3' all with the same message 'Congratulations, your credit score is the highest it has ever been... Click here to view (etc.). Pretty fishy. EDIT: Here is exact wording "Way to go! Your August 2024 scores have hit a new high: Check them now!"
My social was there, but thankfully my credit has been frozen for years. I had 6 results but all of them had an address that hasn't existed since 2007 (house was torn down), a 20 year old phone number, and some had the wrong birthdate. Weird.
Ok, I’m going to be the dumbass in the classroom. Is it possible that this hack is by the white hats as another way to kill the federal reserve and its ilk? Getting rid of the fed won’t get rid of the credit that has been taken on by the people, maybe everyone’s credit and data, ie social security number, getting released is a way to push the implementation of a reset? Kinda like a biblical year of Jubilee where all debts are forgiven…
Yes - this is the best thing you can do. As long as you don’t intend to apply for a loan / credit anyplace in the direct near term that is timing crucial ( home purchase etc.).
The only downside I know of is they might make you jump through hoops to unfreeze. My dad had a hell of a time unfreezing - YMMV of course. It took him months…..
The freeze is pretty painless as should the unfreeze be for most.
Wow! Just what I need. I've worked so hard to keep an ex-husband from ruining my credit only to find that some Illegal or online computer Hacker has stolen my SSN so that they can ruin it. What a way to start the day. Just my luck.
Right now I'm in a state of dispair as I was a member of Credit Karma and I am only allowed one account. I can't change my email address or my phone number since ATT did not retrieve our email account like they told me they would, so my husband dropped them, got us a gmail account, dropped our phone and went with Consumer Cellular. I guess I won't be able to Freeze my Accounts so they will probably WIPE ME OUT.
I just tried starting accounts with Experian, Transunion and Equifax and I am getting nowhere. They can't seem to verify me as (a human) I guess! So STUPID. I am going to have my husband go to the Bank tomorrow and have them run a credit check and hopefully they can FREEZE my account.
Amen! Like my best friend's husband said, "There will never be a 'normal' life for anyone until we rid our world of computers, cell phones, tablets and all electronic gaming devices." He said that was and is the only way our children will have a peaceful, healthy and Private life like we once had. I'm beginning to believe him.

Who secures the supposed securers??
Maddening.
Do a credit lock on your credit so no one can open anything in your name. Just have to release lock before you apply for anything new
That is an option. Another option is to put an ALERT status instead.
No one can open credit without you being called and specifically being questioned and giving personal approval. A lock requires an unlock.
Thank you for this, I just locked mine on all three credit bureaus
I went to site. It only ask me for Firstname, Lastname, State, and Birth year. That in my view is not very intrusive.
If it had as me to actually input my SSN, or any other data, I would have been more suspicious.

Ah, OK. I remember doing it once before when there was a breach years ago (can't remember which one) and it did ask for ss#. Thx for the info!
I'm on there with three different addresses of places I've lived... Am I worried ? Nah, all our information is out there to begin with..

Here's a link.

Yeah - just more of a warning for people to be careful out there.
The scammers are getting better every day at fooling people.
What used to be hokey looking websites with obvious misspellings or bad grammar are now much more realistic down to the fake URL’s and such.

"Is my SSN compromised?"
"It is now"
That's what I'm thinking I don't want to use those sites to check.
You don't put your SSN into the site. That would definitely be a scam.
I am in good company. Kek
Thx. My mom checked - I was breeched with my maiden name in CA ? I figure since my credit rating is below 500 - not much traction on my account 😂😂😂
Well played Sir… well played 👏👏👏
Credit is only worth what you use it for. I don’t have 1 credit card, I own my car, and house is in a trust! Pft…
Kmfao. That's one way to protect yourself 🤣
My credit sucks so bad, but I don’t need it for anything. 🙌
Fraudster: rubs hands together …. let’s go ahead and apply for a credit card under this Social Security number 👏
Credit Card Company: NOT APPROVED
Fraudster: 😞😩😫🤬
🤣
Here's the direct link to test your info: https://npd.pentester.com/search

^^^ A one and a half minute less than flattering review of pentester.com
Sticky so Anons can check in case they need to file. I’m sure some class-action suits will be coming.
...I am not on the list...
...perhaps dogs are exempt...
Or the criminals just threw you a lucky bone. 😂😂
I was already notified by OnAlert that my ssn was found on there. I already have free screening for maybe another year from my bank due to my mortgage company having had a breach. I already have a freeze on all 3 of my credit profiles.
Isn't that sad? Most Americans already have free credit services because of a previous breach. Time for blockchain

I'm on the list and have taken necessary steps to prevent fraud and sign up with an ID protection service.
Lock your credit with 3 credit agencies. Open when you need something new
Doesn't it take a ridiculously long time to work with any of the credit agencies?
IDK if that's honestly the best idea.....JMO......unless you have a lot of time to burn.
Which ID protection do you use?
Aura
Thanks. I'll look into it.
Really?? That's so funny; I heard about it via a major YouTube channel, thought of it when I saw this thread & made a comment about it.
How do you like it? Can you share any more thoughts / info about it?
Thanks

It does me.
Yes. I use Experian and checked the other two and you have to give them your --address, SS#, DOB, to sign up. Who's to say THEY won't get hacked too?
My data was exposed
What's next? People's votes getting stolen?

Interesting. Mine wasn't out there, and the cynical side of me thinks it's due to my Hispanic surname lol
Damn racist hackers
let's ask the truly dangerous questions:
Rules for thee but not for me comes to mind😀
...there are no coincidences...

and this outfit should be liable for any damage done.......
Glad to see 0 matches. I was told by Experian that my SSN had been leaked, but I think it was a bunch of BS.
One of the websites mentioned here is www.pentester.com the other is www.npdbreach.com
I used 12ft.io to get past the pay wall but you can also use an archived link
...I didn't encounter a paywall on pentester...
Oh I was talking about Epoch Times!

My wife's and mine both were listed! I froze the credit union reports.
Me too, :(
Mine is there but the last address they have was from 20 years ago.I guess they could find my current address.
I had no results when I searched my name, so I'm probably safe?
...for now...
My name popped up 6 times 😬
Identity theft is not a joke, jim!!!

I put a "freeze" on all three of the credit agencies, it's easy to do so DO IT!!

Now you just put your good credit and assets on blast. You will have 4 soon, lol

...extremely difficult implementation...
,,,society will need to be taken to its knees before that will happen...
Note to self eliminate the social security number all together and stop taking it out of our paychecks
