The Greeks had no constitutional oversight. They had a democratic system.

The moment that constitution comes into view and majority SCOTUS decisions are measured against that constitution, to make sure they have their principles straight, it is a republic.

The term republic comes into force, when there is a constitution, capping the rights of the more common in erasing the rights of the less common.

You can try to pretend there can be more to it, but the moment those constitutions come into play, limiting the rights of the majority, it's no longer democracy.

Even if you and every member of SCOTUS can't think of the REAL WORD, it's a representative republican model.

Not a representative democracy model, it has become a representative republic model.

When the small c constitution, supplants ''whoever buys the biggest mob,'' and both aristocrats and common class proles are subject to the same, superceding law built specifically to protect the less common from the more common or the more sophisticated - it's a representative republic.

The Greeks had a democratic answer to aristocracy.

Europeans invented the republican answer to both.

This is a very good example of the very fabric of your legal system simply being hijacked, with this ''democracy, democracy'' bullshit.

When a big mob of Shia move into a town in Iraq, the majority decides that now we're all gonna obey Shia law. All you Sunni now go to the backs of buses, etc.

But everybody votes it's just the majority is obvious.

That is a representative democracy.

The Confederacy had a representative democracy. Biggest mob did what they wanted, everybody else could do what they wanted, as long as they didn't get in the way of the biggest mob doing what they wanted.

The United States, from President to dog catcher, is a republic. The dog catcher can't come kill your dog, because you're an Episcopalian, and that's just too bad, because everybody in this town, isn't Episcopalian.

The dog catcher has to obey that republic's constitution.

So for the past few months this has been one of my pet peeves about people not even being allowed to make the proper distinctions because it's just silly to use truthful words about things.
