Agreed. I went through the same thing last August with a friend and neighbor of 13 years. I had been "indoctrinated" and he "no longer knew me". I have been based my entire life and always wore my heart on my sleeve, and he knows it.

You will find that when one is in their greatest hour of need, when things are at their worst, only then will they find out who their true friends are. And there are few, if any, who will not abandon you. Even your closest friends and those people you trusted most, even people who claim to be Christian. I think as my daughter grows her realization of family is who counts grows stronger. Though we have different views we love each other enough & don’t judge each other as much & realize it’s more than our materialistic life. My sisters included. Years ago, a neighbor let his dog crap in our yard. And they were big piles. My wife stepped in one and went off. She stormed into the backyard and got a shovel out of the tool shed. She came back to the front yard and started shoveling the crap back into the neighbor's yard, cussing him out the whole time. He had a nice boat on a trailer in the driveway. Some of the crap smeared down the side of the boat, and I think some of it went inside the boat. The dog disappeared soon afterwards.
She wanted some donuts today, so I pulled in to Dunkin' and ordered a dozen of one type. They said they were out. My wife asked if they were going to make more today. They said no, they couldn't make any of that type because of COVID, and that they all came from a bakery elsewhere. I thought Dunkin' Donuts made their own donuts. I might not be going there again. My wife was mad again. She's better now.

I waited for him at the end of the driveway as he departed my neighbor directly across the street. He approached me with a big hand out ready for a shake; “Hello I’m..................” I left his handshake dangling in the wind and cut him off abruptly and said, “Are you communist or conservative?” “Am I what, he asked. Did you just say communist?”
