I saw a recent video from Coutts where they said the issue was that internet connection in that sparsely populated area was not designed to handle so many connections at the same time. So it could be spotty. They DID NOT say that the RCMP have disabled all the cell towers.

He is not helping himself by speaking out against the Biden government the way he has been, since he has to deal with their regulators, not the least the environmental assessment being done for his Starship launch site. He has nothing to gain by supporting a sinking ship (Biden). I can see where spotty connections combined with an overload of people would be the issue. I remember several years ago going out on the Friday after Thanksgiving to downtown SF. We all got separated and no one could get through to each other on the phones. Too many people using the network.
The overloaded cell tower thing happened in DC on Jan 6. At first thought we were getting jammed at the Capitol building until a guy a few feet away from me on the lawn somehow got an incoming call.

It's likely they killed the cell phones to stop the livestreaming as, like everyone else is pointing out, CBs are a thing for truckers.
Mind you their jammers may be able to be set to jam certain frequencies and if that's the case then CBs and Starlink would become useless anyway as they'd block the frequencies those are operating on.
Now the town would likely have internet and landlines so all you're really doing is inconveniencing those people -- unless they're planning to pull that next. And they might. When the RCMP moved in it was the town people that moved in to block the RCMP from getting to the convoy until the farmers arrived so it's likely they'd declare the entire town to be part of the convoy.
It really looks like they're trying to bait them into a fight so they can turn around and use it for justification to use aggressive/lethal force on them. Hopefully cool heads prevail in the government's case because I do know just here next door in Saskatchewan how very ready the people are to fight. You think a bunch of farmers running your blockade was unsettling? The people here are at the breaking point and this convoy is the frustrations and anger of a country who know what the elites are doing and were just waiting for a spark to set things in motion.
Well that's my thoughts on the whole matter. Maybe nothing would happen if the RCMP went martial law or worse, but I just don't see it happening anymore. We're past that point.
They can’t shut down radios or sat phones, they need to go old school.
If they're trying to shut down the livestreamers, they can get around that by doing what reporters did before there were cellphones and the internet. You record the story through whatever method you have even if it's pen to notebook. You leave the site and get to a place where you can communicate. They may need teams of rotating livestreamers but they can't stop dedicated people from reporting what's going on.

They have radios. They aren't cut off from communications.
Adapt and over come. The CB works and they can't shut that down. A lot of those CB's are chipped and can transmit and receive at very long distances.
To everyone claiming the CB Is the answer. All it takes to shut down the CB is someone pushing a lot of wattage on the frequency(s).
With a big enough amp no one within the city limits could hear anything other than what the person holding the key down wanted them to.
A CB radio with side-band capability can still talk thru a dead-key.
