Why is nobody asking how in the hell PayPal can legally confiscate a person’s assets for communicating one’s thoughts, irregardless of whether those thoughts are protected under the constitution. I mean who made them the Lord of the flies?
How is this any different from your neighbor coming over and confiscating property because some thing you said was interpreted by them as “misinformation?”
I mean what in the actual fuck?
Can you say “class action lawsuits are very effective?”
When you clicked the "I agree" to their "terms of service"; you gave them permission to do whatever they wanted, you gave them rights to every picture you posted, you have them your personal information, location, birthdate, address, agreed to marketing, etc.
Then, they periodically sent you updated "Terms of Service" which you agreed to, and like 99.999%, didn't read the tome of legal speak about what you agreed to, and they didn't bother to highlight what was changing.
SouthPark even made a couple episodes about this, as people clicked "I agree" to Acceptable Use, Terms of Service, etc. What they do is immoral, unethical and wrong on every possible level - but legal.
Just because you agree to something does not mean it is legally enforceable. Paypal is counting, like many firms that purchase debts, on those affected being unwilling or unable to take them to court.
Isn't the entire point of a contract, the fact that YOU agreed? The Terms of Service is the contract that PayPal is making with their customer. The ToS is reviewed by teams of lawyers, as this is a legally binding agreement between the company, and the customer. To say this was an accident, is a bold-faced lie.
Is this abhorrent? Absolutely
Do I hope they go bankrupt? Absolutely
But, as they will have a log of you logging into your account, and accepting the terms of service, along with the fact that there are other means of paying the bill, and you accepted the PayPal terms; will put you at a distinct advantage.
I do not understand the analogy. Both are privileges. With my DL I am responsible for maintenance, insurance, taxes and “responsible operations” or face penalties.
There are no alternatives to DL. I cannot chose a random state DL if I don’t like my state’s terms.
However, there are alternatives to PayPal. This is completely voluntary (and I despise PayPal’s actions). I hope they go bankrupt
Only if the terms that you agreed to are legal and enforcable. The court can freely strike terms from a contract that are either illegal or otherwise unenforcable, or even nullify the contract in its entirety.
Specific to the argument at hand, the proposed fine for promoting misinformation is illegal and unenforcable. For starters, Paypal is not a government entity, it is a private business (specifically, a payment aggregator). Not only does it lack the legal power to issue you a fine for actions it alleges are in breach of policy whatsoever, but it does not even have the standing to sue you for any amount of money unless it is for damages you have inflicted upon it. Such as attempting to use their services to commit fraud.
The only thing Paypal has the right to do with your money is to freeze your Paypal account and the balance within it for a duration permitted to it by policies that are enforcable, OR return that money to you either at the end of that limited duration or when you tell them to give you a check for the balance you have in your account after it is closed.
I am taking a great deal of pleasure in watching their stock tank; and when they release the number of accounts that have been cancelled; I expect that the drop will be catastrophic.
Same happened with me and after digging into it I discovered there was money still in the account that needed to be transferred over to my bank or bank card. After linking the accounts and claiming the funds I was able to close out my acct.
I deleted my cards on there except one, it won’t let me delete it because it’s attached to automated pay with a online company I use. I want to delete all my cards on there first before I close my paypal account. So I contacted the online company about changing the way I pay for my membership and they said I’d have to close my account with them and start over with a new account. Well I don’t want to do that because I will lose everything I’ve bought & all my membership points that I can use to buy items with, I have racked up thousands of points. It’s a graphic design site, so I could lose a crap load of digital files that I haven’t downloaded yet and I have unlimited amount of times I can download bought files.
Anyway, I’ve been back and forth emailing with them as they try to help me with this process. I finally said if I just close/delete my paypal account will I lose my account with them. Haven’t heard back yet.
Paypal locked my account, I think it is because I bought air rifle pellets on ebay (there is a risk doing business with me, was the reason). Can't use it anymore and they are holding my funds for 180 days. I cannot close my account nor remove or add a bank account. It is so they can take money from you as they please before you can close your account. May they rot in hell.
This was to be expected. They're trying to stop the hemorrhaging. What you can do it delete your CC, and bank account info which will in effect make the account useless.
They won't ever release it. You're better off paying the 1.75% fee and get back what you can before they just take it from you. I tried four times to send the money to my bank account in the manner that is supposed to let you do that without a fee after choosing to wait three days for the "free" transfer service. They never let you do that and are forcing people to pay the fee when they try to get their money back from PayPal. I recommend you just pay the fee then go grab what money you have left and then dump PP forever. That's what I had to do because I was forced to do that.
I just deleted mine and the email says “Now, we'll look at your account history, and email you usually within 30 days to let you know the status” Kek usually, wtf is that, ehhhhhhh we may or may not close your account that you want to close. Get Woke Go Broke was what I put for reason leaving.
I have been getting a “ cant close to to pending transaction”. I dont have a pending transaction. I cancelled any subscriptions i use paypal for. Still getting the message.
And just tried to close mine thanks for the reminder but they want me to call them. Here is a copy and paste of what it says..
Are you sure you want to close your account?
Once you close your PayPal account, you'll no longer be able to:
Shop, pay, or receive money with PayPal
Take advantage of benefits like Direct Deposit and PayPal Debit Mastercard®
View your transaction history
Also, if you have scheduled or incomplete transactions, they'll be canceled. You won't be able to reopen this PayPal account.
If you'd like to close your account, call us at 866-528-3733 Mon-Fri 7:00 AM ET to 1:00 AM ET and Sat-Sun 9:00 AM ET to 11:00 PM ET.
Blizzard did same thing with World of Warcraft players when CCP (China owns WoW) basically cancelled a top PVP player by perm banning them and taking their already earned prize of 10,000 USD simply because he said he supported the Hong Kong protestors right before the Hoaxid Plandemic.
They prevented customers from closing their accounts, just like here. I waited a few weeks and deleted mine and recovered 50Gb of hard drive space never looking back.
CCP rescinded their punishment by only banning this player for just 6 months and gave them their money back, but damage had already been done.
I think they dont want people to see the amount of accounts closing to prevent further drop in stock price. Delaying and denying closure of your account is a tactic they are using to stop the financial hemorrhage.
It would be LOL to see a class action case brought against Paypal for not letting people close their accounts.
Tinfoil Hat side of me wonders if fines are already worked up in the database and that's why they're doing this? Can't levy the fine if you're no longer signed up?
Looks like damage control to me.

No, not entirely. There is such a thing as compelled performance, like when you got your driver's license.

Brilliant reply. I understand.
PayPal can't take anything if there is nobody using their service and said service soon doesn't exist anymore. Go woke Commie go broke.
I am taking a great deal of pleasure in watching their stock tank; and when they release the number of accounts that have been cancelled; I expect that the drop will be catastrophic.
I hope their company fails.
There's no such word as "irregardless". As Q stated, "spelling matters".
My point stands, irregardless of your comment.
Fuck you.
This is my BBQ now.
Thefuckitis.jpg. :p
Probably overwhelming their system with the number of deletes but your idea probably more true.
There are people that can't find the "any" key.
Some of them operate nuclear power plants.
Still waiting on this wc3 match to start.
"Operator, give me the number to 911."
You've all seen this right?

Either it was released too soon, or on purpose, either way the CCP has a hand in it.
Like that wasn't obvious from the control intent, it was so CCP. Poor Chinese people.

You probably owe them $2500
No OP does not owe them. On behalf of OP, I fine you $2500 for spreading misinformation. DM me for payment instructions
It’s me, the Nigerian prince
Call customer service, they will lie to you and say it was a mistake, and you can simply say
Amen and awoman.
HEY! that's transphobic now, instead of Amen or AWomen you say: "theythem"

This is the current scam, right there.
I cannot close my account because I supposedly have $5 in it.
BUT, I DON'T!
That "$5" in my account is their PROMOTIONAL PROGRAM to get you to link your bank accounts! I didn't ask for it! I don't want that $5.
Even if I link, transfer, and then close the account they have COLLECTED MY BANK ACCOUNT DATA... I don't like it, nope, not at all.
Someone needs to file class action on this...
I'm sorry Dave, you can't do that.
I cancelled 2 days ago and it didn't even give me a "why did you cancel" page.
You needed to check the box that says 'delete all of my data', then you get prompted with the reason for closure dialog.

LAWYER
Idk about Rosess here but id bet a lot of us couldnt even afford to take a lawyer to lunch right now 🤷♂️
That's true, but a lot of lawyers will work pro bono-- get paid when you win

Sounds like it may be time for a class action lawsuit against PP.
Here is a link to contact your state’s banking regulators so you can file a complaint. You could also contact your states AG office… https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-find-my-states-bank-regulator-en-1637/
Maybe, uh, call customer service.
oh my god they aren't letting people delete their accounts HAHAHAHHA
Looks like they are trying to discourage account closure! Kek
I got the same thing when I tried days ago. I'm still waiting to transfer my balance to my bank, once it's released.

I dont have a balance, but I deleted my bank account info in the "wallet"
Good idea, just did the same
It takes time to check your social media history for hate and misinformation.
Lets talk about your health

Credit unions?

Thanks for reminding me, i just closed my paypal account, before closing it I removed my bank and credit card info
Probably prudent to get new cards too, to cut them off completely.
I just spent ages trying to close my account. I got the same message and then the run around, getting nowhere and ending up at the start again.
Perhaps they didn't approve of my reason for closing. Go woke, go broke!
i get the same message when trying to remove my crypto
I had to call them as well.
Same with me.
I just did mine in like 5 minutes. Not sure what gives.
They are waiting for your $2500.00 burn to clear? JK.
Thats a blessing in disguise. You get the opportunity to chew out someone who works there over this
It would be LOL to see a class action case brought against Paypal for not letting people close their accounts.
Tinfoil Hat side of me wonders if fines are already worked up in the database and that's why they're doing this? Can't levy the fine if you're no longer signed up?
I was finally able to delete my account, just now. I did not receive the reason why page either. They know why.
