HAPPY THANKSGIVING, FRENS! 🤗♥️
I thought I could share this formatting cheat sheet here:
MAIN TITLE
italics text
I will not not ignore any valuable contributions of yours, Frens.🙏🏻
subtitle
- bold item: normal text
- other item
quote
3 underscores is an horizontal separator and to display code, just preceed everything with 4 spaces.
Here’s the source code of the formatted part above:
___
# MAIN TITLE
*italics text*
I will not ~~not~~ ignore any valuable contributions of yours, Frens.🙏🏻
## subtitle
* **bold item:** normal text
* other item
> quote
___
The other features I have yet not needed/looked for.
👉🏻 If there’s some other tip you know how, just comment about them and I will extend the post accordingly.🙏🏻
Edit: u/bubble_burst also shared an easier way to display code: 🙏🏻
Also, there is an easy way to display code. Put 3 "tic" (« backquotes ») without space between them, before and after the code:
Code goes here.
...
...
More code
Edit: u/ProudOfAmerica shared this link to the Mother of All Formatting Guides: 🙏🏻
👉🏻 https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043033952-Formatting-Guide
Warning: all of this is not going to work here… it’s informative but YMMV.
Edit: u/FractalizingIron has another tip to display text as code:
I think three tilde before and after will also force a text to be displayed as code.
e.g.:
My chickens are *strong chickens*
My chickens are strong chickens
I use this for sections where I want to display a quote by without the interference of what .win does to the formatting.
He also rightly suggests to remind us of displaying Q drops:
u/#q55
u/#q55
Edit: u/VERITASAEQUITAS tells us about larger quote blocks:
>You can make larger blocks of quote by adding '>' to every line.
>
>This way it won't break up into multiple quote blocks.
You can make larger blocks of quote by adding '>' to every line.
This way it won't break up into multiple quote blocks.
Thanks fren, this is very useful. People keep asking for this stuff!
There is another way to display code without having to precede everything with 4 spaces, like this:
Links:
[Title](http://example.com/url)
Title
Strikethrough:
~~strike~~
strikeThese formatted posts are completely unreadable on phones.
All you see is this
https://files.catbox.moe/daj29y.jpg
You may just need to turn community styling on in the .win settings, I am on my phone and see all of this just fine
Same
I read them just fine on my iPhone. I have Community Styling turned on though.
Fair enough.
Only a year late, but hopefully you have figured out by now to just turn your phone sideways and you can read it. It took me waaay too long to figure that out myself.
[Title](http://example.com/url "You can also add text that will pop up when you hover over the link.")
Title
Wow. Keeper.
Okay, more stuff I did not know. This is good!
sometimes I like
more
breathing room.
Ah, the old non-breaking space. I haven't used that in forever. Great tip!
Funny, on my phone I only see half the text. It goes beyond the left and right borders, and I can't scroll horizontally. Perhaps because my browser is outdated ...
No some of the fancy formatting makes posts unreadable on all phones.
It's an issue with the website, not your browser.
A suggestion (above) is to hold your phone horizontally.....have you tried that?
Uhm, yes, it works, but why should I have to do that? Shouldn't scripts/css handle this?
I have no idea. It would seem that scripts/css is not handling it. It was a suggestion.
Thank you.
adding this thread to my saved posts.
I hope you are warm and safe where you are as well my friend.
Dear Fren, your comment made me so warm I sweat (no double entendre). But then, late Autumn in Switzerland guarantees that I will be cosy as these people know how cold the weather can be and have worked their comfort around it for centuries.🤗🔥🇨🇭
I use the escape "\" before format commands so the parser skips them and just prints the asterisk or whatever. This was written horribly, but you get the idea.
Typing \*text* gives you *text*, unitalicized.
Sometimes 2 or 3 "\" are needed, like in the first "text" above, I had to type it as \\\*text*
And typing that last "text" example took 7 to display properly!
I'm dizzy from reading this back, that means it's ready to post. 😵

Hmm .. most of those doesnt seem to work on win, but
strikethroughworks!Wait, does this work here? I once found some format differences…
Thanks a lot for the link, Fren!🤗
Most of it wont work, I think best not to put it in the post.
I added a warning. Thanks.
BIG GREEN TEXT
Test
Trump Won!
Awesome!
Thank you so much. Once I accidentally made a bulleted list, but I haven't been able to duplicate that. The numbers aren't so important as the ability to stack short lines without double line spaces between--think sections of verse, for instance, or epigrams. 5hat would be a great trick.
You make a bullet point list
by adding asterisk space in front
of each line of text.
Thank you. Actually it was a numbered list, and I did it somehow like number-period-) space text and--then what? Paragraph? Double paragraph? I feel the paragraph/new line key had something to do with it.
I'm typing "+" then space at the beginning of each line.
Nummber dot space.
I’m not smart enough to make posts formatted like that. I just try and get my point across the best way I know how using the English language. My apologies for being low key. And thanks for sharing this. I will try one day and see how well I can articulate a post this way. They have always seemed harder to read so I know it’ll be a challenge posting this way.
So I see all of you putting icons like flags, frogs, etc., ahead or behind your "name". How do you do that?????
Msg the mods.
I think three tilde before and after will also force a text to be displayed as code.
eg ~~~ ENTER My chickens are strong chickens ENTER ~~~
I use this for sections where I want to display a quote by without the interference of what .win does to the formatting.
Ok, but how about the emoji and other graphics?
https://emojipedia.org/
For gifs there are posts in the sidebar to give you the strings for them and emojis are the normal phone emojis afaik
Thanks, I use a PC, but will see what I can do.
If you want emojis on PC, you can go here-
https://emojipedia.org/fire/
Thanks!
Would very much appreciate instructions on how to: 1. insert profile pic 2. Insert Memes. Thanks, Frens
Should also add the Q quote mechanism
Is it still working?
It is. Except in the main post itself.🥺
u/#q55
Thanks :)
It doesn’t work.
It goes to the “user” profile, cannot find such a user and shows the error:
I never saw it working. What’s supposed to happen when I click?
Actually just write from the ‘u’ to the end of the first number (55 for Q Drop 55 here): u-slash-sharp-q-55
u/#q55
Thanks! A few times I have needed this but didn't know how. Cool beans, cheers! :)
Make sure to use a lower case “u” too. If your phone is like mine, it will try and autocorrect it to an upper case “U” and won’t work then.
An example of
inline code
highlighting using single backticksThanks, I’m either doing it wrong or it’s a mobile glitch. I can only do “quote” feature. Bold & italics show up as asterisks.
Thanks for people like me who know nothing about this technology.
Even reading this it confuses me.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Any way to edit a post "heading" after it's been posted? For instance if something was misspelled.
No. :(
is it somehow possible to include an image in a reply, either by uploading the image file or by specifying the url for an online image?
In theory this should already be possible since the u/#q55 syntax results in an image of a Qpost.
But can it be done for other images?
Saved thanks!
How do you put emojis in titles?
IOS keyboard.
On a computer, copy-paste emojis from someone else's post:
