Yes! and for some reason that reminded of the pure red dye tablets you chewed that supposedly showed plaque on your teeth. Mucho red dye ftw.
Mercurchrome for TONSILITIS!! -Gag- but it worked!!
Kek! Yes! Or listerine gargle for a sore throat—I’d just stare at that little cup like it was poison!! 🫣🫢😝🤢
Mom made us chew aspirin. It worked and proved you were sick if you were willing to chew up aspirin.
Mom made us gargle warm salt water. I still remember being little gargling
I remember the salt water, too. Later on, it was gargling with a an aspirin tablet crushed in warm water. It still works!
Warm water with baking soda
My mom told me if I did a good enough job scrubbing the dirt out of my scrapes, then she would not have to scrub them. It was a genius move, very empowering.
LOL yea, Good old Methiolade.
Merthiolate is not Mercurochrome.
Merthiolate is much stronger
Merthiolate --- burns
Mercurochrome --- doesn't burn
Even better if it came in a brown bottle with an expiration date from the 1960's. Didn't they ban that crap because it contained mercury? Well no matter, Grandma kept that brown bottle in her medicine cabinet and used it on me and somehow I survived.
Monkey blood!
LMAO @ Bob Barker. This was 100% what my sick days looked like.
Iknowrite? That's what sold the meme for me too. :)
Now that Sprite has HFCS as its first ingredient* and the Campbell's Soup has started adding soy lecithin. The saltines are the only ones that aren't changed. :/
ETA: Correction. HFCS is the second ingredient in Sprite. After water, before flavor.
Uh…there’s no high fructose corn syrup in sprite. First ingredient is water
Sprite has HFCS, always has. You're thinking of Sierra Mist.. which was ruined yet again to "Starry"
Starry ranges from "okay" to "total shit" depending on the batch for me. It doesn't scratch the same itch, for sure.
Critiquing "always has", because high fructose corn syrup hit the market in 1967 (though it wasn't until the 70s that it hit the beverage market), whereas Sprite hit in 1961.
Sprite originally used sugar to the best of my research, which while still not ideal, it's leagues better than that garbage.
Which also contains more fructose than advertised now, to boot.
What ingredients list are you reading that has HFCS listed as first?
Directly from the website: Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Citric Acid, Natural flavors, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate (to protect flavor).
Yes, water is the first ingredient, and yes, HFCS comes second.
Ah, I’m looking at the UK ingredients
Fair enough. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the UK is stricter about ingredients than the US from what I understand. The FDA is a malevolent force out to keep us fat and sick.
Seems that way yeah. Whatever is in place that keeps HFC out of their shit I want here
All of these plus grilled cheese and tomato soup, for me. Thanks Mom, I loved those.
My mom always made red jello when I was sick.
Oh Yeah!
"dis-ease" They always put it in your face don't they. The irs =Theirs.
Good catch. That's why I write it this way...
Circumstances. Basically a bunch of people standing around you in a circle. Get it?
?? Nope ??
Picture that you have done something wrong and there is a bunch of people standing around you (in a circle) because you’re going to be punished, chastized, etc.
Circum, as in the circumference of a circle.
Stances, as in people standing in a fixed position.
Ah, gotcha. I thought you were referencing "dis-eases" somehow.
Therapist The rapist
Manslaughter man's laughter
7-UP! if you were coughing at night keeping pops awake, he would take a few fingers of that Vicks and put it down your throat!! was horrible, just the thought keeps ya from coughing today.....
Man you really nailed it. The Sprite can was the only thing that was off in this meme as the predominant lemon/lime drink back in the day was indeed 7-UP! :)
Fresca for the oldie-goldies.
Bingo. Remember "Tab" too? hahahaha :)
LOL Drank it for years!
Shasta and Chek were prominent in my early life.
Canada Dry was beverage of choice for sick days at our house
The cure is usually time, because body heals itself.
Everything else, that's for coping with the time it takes.
True-
Ginger ale though
I miss real Vernor's (grew up in Michigan) but the sugar was replaced with HFCS like nearly every other soda (called it pop growing up).
Replace that Sprite with Vernors and this is about right. Michigan boy also. Even with HFCS it's still a go to when feeling a little under the weather. Comfort item I guess. In Missouri now and it's not easy to find.
Pop and Vernors kid here too! Raised at Duck Lake Michigan.
I find the lack of love for Faygo and Towne Club disturbing. BTW Better Made are superior to Lay’s.
Nothing better that a red pop! And yes, Better Made are made better.
7-up! Sprite didn't exist
Sprite’s been around for decades. How old are you??
I think Cats is 184 yrs old, as counted by cats.
You are indeed correct!
Ny mom claims she didn't know I had ever watched The Price is Right, but I definitely remember watching several episodes when out from elementary school. Good times.
My Mom is a nurse. Any cut, bump, scrape or sickness was usually completely dismissed. If my Mom stopped to take care of me, then I knew it was really something.
Wow that took me back...
I loved the Flinstone vitamins. Especially the orange flavored ones.
If I got sick, I just had tea and toast and usually slept it off.
Still do
You haven’t lived until you’ve had goose grease rubbed on your chest for a cold! Polish meds!
Haha, well I've never heard of that one!
Mom did sprite and cranberry in my house when we were kids. Best mixture when you’re sick! I do it now too for my kids.
You forgot the Robotussen
Just rub some of that 'tussin' into it boy! (Chris Rock bit).
I remember.
Vicks Formula 44
& that pink medicine that tasted like bubblegum🐸
Pepto Bismol which I still buy and keep in the refrigerator door for the grandkids.
NICE meme! Brings back memories of staying home from school and watching daytime TV. What a great wispy thought, thanks Fren!
You nailed it
My household is a big VaporRub fan.
How wonderful was it to stay home sick but not too sick to prop up in bed and read or whatever. I loved it. Book freak.
And mustard plaster.
Jello also. And an eco friendly waxed paper straw that could bend like magic! And grandma always told mom to put a sucker or lollipop nearby in a cup. Whenever you felt you would vomit you stick it in your mouth and no puke. With my kids I'd put gummy bears in a dish. And sports drink to replace the 7-up as it has electrolytes. Of course the chicken soup....
Warm 7up and that blue bulb snot vaccuum And a giant humidifier
Syrup of coke for nausea, ginger ale for fever and nausea, saltwater gargle for sore throat, Vick’s Vapo Rub for cough and chest congestion are all old remedies.
NAILED IT!
I remember when heating up a can of yellow liquid meant making chicken soup and thinking it would help you for something 🤣
Ginger Ale for tummies. Honey/lemon tea for sore throat after a saltwater gargle. lol Lots of porridge, sticks to your ribs. Early to bed, early to rise. If you don't work, you don't eat. Idle hands are the work of the devil. God helps those who help themselves. If you want a helping hand, you have one at the end of our arm. If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten. Golden Rule. And the greatest of these IS LOVE
God bless Bob Barker. TPIR was the highlight of sick days!
Indeed, he was the best. FYI, I won a $100 bet against my brother-in-law last year on whether or not he is/was alive. He still is at 99!
i still use vaporub.
Yes!! And remember the long swabs to put merthiolate on the back of your throat for strep etc?! Yowsa! (It worked too)
That Sprite is Vernors where i grew up.
Also: the orange Triaminic. (Did I just date myself?)
I remember that too! Reminds me of syrup of ipecac!
TPIR gives me hives, now. Zombies
Nyquil still wins
Coke syrup from the pharmacy. It came in a white Chinese food takeout container. It was supposed to cure you of the flu. Not sure who came up with that.
St. Joseph aspirin for children.
Sucrets lozenges.
Brioschi.
