The closest airport is Kapalua airport and it became an impromptu shelter the first night. Flights in and out of Kapalua get cancelled for wind all the time on regular non hurricane days. Also it’s a tiny airport. Biggest planes they host are 40 passengers. Ferries were banned decades ago.
The main airport in Kahului is too far for that many buses to travel without being seen. Also traffic out of Lahaina was gridlocked.
There are, however, 2 shipping containers at Kahului airport filled with bodies being kept chilled. Idk why those corpses and not the others. Maybe these bodies had more flesh on them?

Hawaiian families are private and have no trust of government. They are well aware of what the US government has imposed on native americans on the mainland. They will not rush to report to any "outsiders" anything.
Most of the families don't live in town. Internet and cell access was pretty low before the fire in the mauka areas. It likely they are non-existent right now. Parents are likely not social media savvy in any way.
Access to the roads they do live on were blocked by fire and are likely still blocked by government action, fallen trees, burned cars, and even possibly damaged bridges. This prevents them to getting to areas to report any issues and they assume they are on their own.
The news has reported on searches of Lahaina town, but I have not heard about any searches or other activity in the mauka areas where most of these families live.
The post-fire drone videos I've seen (and I've looked at most of them) do not show any burned out buses. In one video I saw several clean and undamaged buses still sitting in a mostly vacant parking lot completely unblemished. I thought it odd. But thank goodness a smart person thought to check earlier G_oogle map photos, learning that the parking lot usually holds way more buses, that are not there now.
So, where are they?

Despite the cell phones not being operative, there are other ways to communicate throughout the island. Lahaina is not the only town on the island and there are short-wave radios and walkie-talkies having a range of 35 to 50 miles with on avg. 50 channels. These are inexpensive and would be very useful for relaying information. The people of Maui need to unite fast. Why are we not hearing of any help from surrounding towns like Kaanapali, Kapalua, Kahului, Maalaea, Hana, and others?

When is the last time any of you looked at Google Maps or any of the others to have a peek at your house or someplace you recognize? I just checked mine again - the pic is at least 5 years old. They don't update these things daily or even weekly. In my case the pic is from before I moved in (2020). There isn't even a fence, and there are about 5 big trees that I removed in 2021.
Another thing to consider is the map pictures of all those buses in the parking lot could've been taken during the summer when school is out. That lot could be where the district stores the buses. During the year there would only be a few there - spares or out of service buses. I've seen that done everywhere I've lived and I've lived in about 10 states and 2 countries (veteran).

At the top of the mid zone where the house flowed down from the mountain...that largest residential area?
Most of the schools were at the top of the area - closer to the mountains and away from sea.
That area did not burn.
So far as I'm aware, only one [public] elementary school closer to water burned.

Someone on here the other day said the same thing happened in Paradise CA after their fire, and the "authorities" said they didn't want drones getting footage of burnt bodies while they were cleaning the area up and looking for victims.
I somewhat buy that. However - they could get someone (police, guard, even a priest) to get drone footage, examine for bodies, and blur them.
This makes sense & I agree that those bodies could be blurred out if needed. It is respectful on many levels. Unfortunately proving truth is also a necessity in these days too.

If you look at the school calendars orientation was the day of the fires. So maybe this is why the enrollment is off, idk, haven’t gone down the enrollment issue yet, qualified question but still needs more research.
ONE private school received a 1000 new applicants for the new school year. That's half the 2,000 right there.

If I was Hawaiian, I wouldn't let my kids anywhere near a public school. Officials don't want to talk to any of the citizens about the fire but they expect them to put their children in their schools?
Or perished themselves. Plus we are not getting all of them talking that did survive. I wonder if they are trying to communicate with the rest of the world.

I agree, "where are the parents of these alleged 'missing' children?", but I would never, this early in the 'game' holler fake news.

-Did they really find 250+ people with gunshot wounds, and if so - who were they?

Is it your suggestion they never existed, or just what are you suggesting?
Of course it's not my suggestion they never existed. There is a fact here that's being ignored. 2,000 kids who didn't enroll for the new school year were classified as missing. They are not missing. This post says there are missing kids and is now connecting two photos of a bunch of buses to that false premise. Logic says, if you start with a false premise you will never reach an accurate conclusion.
And THAT is the Foundation for all disinformation campaigns.

Absolutely. I'm sure some of the children that didn't enroll are casualties of the fire and the remains have not been recovered.
They would be included in the roughly 1,000 that remain MISSING. The school district had no right to say unenrolled children were missing. Conflating and confusing.

Yeah the government isn't giving out the numbers so it's all guesses and 1000 is the more verifiable low number.
8 wouldnt trust the governments numbers anyway, even if they gave out the correct number. Trust is lost. I want to hear the people talk. Not some beurocrat holed up in a fancy hotel

Everyone be careful believing this. I'm not talking about the missing kids - just the buses.
When is the last time any of you looked at Google Maps or any of the others to have a peek at your house or someplace you recognize? I just checked mine again - the pic is at least 5 years old. They don't update these things daily or even weekly. In my case the pic is from before I moved in (2020). There isn't even a fence, and there are about 5 big trees that I removed in 2021.
Another thing to consider is the map pictures of all those buses in the parking lot could've been taken during the summer when school is out. That lot could be where the district stores the buses. During the year there would only be a few there - spares or out of service buses. I've seen that done everywhere I've lived and I've lived in about 10 states and 2 countries (veteran).
This guy may have meant well but he didn't think things through when he tweeted about the buses.

It’s an island. Even if the busses were hidden or destroyed and shoved down a hole, someone needs to explain the sudden disappearance of that many busses.
