Honestly I'd rather have area or throw rugs on a hard floor. Not always an option, or not economically feasible if you don't already have a good foundation for it, but hardwood and tiled floors are usually easier to clean..and are also better for people who wear their shoes in the house.
Carpets end up ruined from rain and mud, even if you are vigilant about cleaning them which takes more specialized hardware such as an extractor.
I’ve been in beautiful ranch style homes in Los Angeles that are owned by you name it; Indian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Philippino and the first thing they do when they buy a home is they’ll tile over an original hardwood floor with gigantic 2’ x 2’ ugly tile. Every square inch gets covered in tile.
Think it has something to do with Gramma being able to hose down and mop the place in 30 minutes... less hassle then taking care of hardwood.
Finished hardwood isn't that difficult to take care of either, especially modern hardwood solutions. May just need to take some time once every few years or whatever to maintain the finish.
As an added bonus, you can also go with engineered wood which is essentially as easy to clean as tiling and as a bonus can dampen sound and feel a little "softer" as some come with a nice rubber backing.
