As to a DJT endorsement, this is purely speculation on my part, but Adams seems like a self-serving worm to me. He strikes me as the type that only does the right thing when it's easy. When he complained about all of the illegals flooding into NYC, he was under pressure to figure out how to deal with them. Seemed like he only complained because he was getting heat. And he immediately paid for it.

Perhaps he blocked an action or objective of the deep state. It is highly doubtful that he is being prosecuted in the interests of justice because he broke the law. Much more likely that he is being punished for disloyalty to the deep state, or simply being removed as one would remove any other obstacle.
