I suspect Social Security doesn't have a box to check saying the person is dead or they require a copy of the death certificate to fill in the death date. The death certificate may not have ever been provided if the family didn't know to do so. SS needs to periodically run reports to flag situations like this for individual investigation, and they must not be doing that.
When I created and managed a system that impacted billing for the phone company, I wrote numerous Integrity reports to keep the data in my databases accurate. It takes someone who cares about accuracy to start the ball rolling. If nothing else this will identify areas that need to be fixed in the social security system.
The proposal says EVERY TAXPAYER. The dividend would only be payable to people who pay taxes for 2025. What about people who retired, and paid taxes all their working career? Is there a plan for getting a refund for any of those taxes? They have our SS records, how about a percentage of what it shows as our cumulative/ lifetime wages?

Like WTF!!
And it seems like the tax program is asking more questions than usual, it's kinda confusing. This should be simple and straight forward, we don't have anything crazy going on, no business, no stocks, we didn't sell any property, not itemizing...
Edit to add - Trump should make it to where if you owe taxes, it should be forgiven, starting this year and from now on. The folks that get refunds should still get them.

When you are a civil SERVANT you are paid FROM taxes. You do not pay taxes, you return some of the taxes you were paid.
