People who live on filet mignon red meat get dementia as well. I say diet moderation is the key, and no statins.

I'm old enough to remember not very many people getting dementia but now Alzheimer's is exploding.

Thank you for addressing this. Filet is a lean cut, and while healthy for you, does not have much fat. Your body converts fat to cholesterol quite easily.

Really?? So grain fed is superior to grass fed beef? I prefer grass fed from a taste standpoint, at least the cow that we buy once a year locally

Thirdly, I don't think any committed carnivore is eating filet mignon. While I like a filet once or twice a year (smothered in blue cheese, etc.), it is far too lean to be of use to effectively power my body. I want fat (and, ideally, marrow) with the protein. So that means chuck steak, shank, beef neck, rib eye, etc.

I buy the long, kind of tubular vacuum-packed filet/tenderloin packs from a Restaurant Supply company when they are within 4 or 5 days of their sell-by date and the company puts them on sale for 25-50% off. Those have the fat still on. I take them home, cut them into individual steaks, shrink-wrap them, and freeze what I won't use in a day or two. I usually have 50-75 steaks (1.5 inches each) in my freezer.

I also get rib-eyes but they are actually more expensive (not per pound - per package) at that company because they are sold in 25-30 pound packages.

The filets/tenderloins are usually packed in 10-12 pound packages. For reference, I just checked Sam's Club and theirs are 5-6 pounds and cost just under $26 per lb. - and are trimmed of fat. I've never seen them on sale either.

The human body has no carbohydrate requirement. It basically needs meat from ruminants, and salt.

Exactly right- but the meat can come from fish, birds, reptiles, mammals - anything tasty

So what does Big Pharma, Big Med, and Big Food tell you?

Guzzle them carbs—after all, they're the BASE OF THE HOLY PYRAMID—and lay off that meat and salt! Ooo so dangey dangey!

When I get my tenderloin/filets from the restaurant supply company I usually get a 15lb box of Wright's Thick Bacon. Comes packaged like this (and there are 2 layers - one on top of the other):

https://images.salsify.com/image/upload/s--KF5KLzxD--/w_700,h_400,c_lpad/s4gwijtjummngdakwmkl.webp

The only issue is I have to use a metal spatula sometimes to separate the slices - which makes me very impatient when I want bacon.

duck fat

Lol. I read that as "duck feet".

A friend of mine went to a local food bank near where I live in Texas last week. They gave him some canned and fresh vegetables, some small individual packs of gummy-bears for the kids (school starts Wednesday this week here), some stuff like rice and mac-and-cheese, some other stuff with protein, some fruit, jalapeno bread, and a "meat". Normally it would be something like a pork loin or some chicken (whole or nuggets). This time they gave him a package of frozen chicken feet. I loved the look on his face when he told me.

I guess you are supposed to boil them and make soup broth. I texted him this link and told him he had a project for his kids:

Ugh. When I was doing pen-testing for a living I did a 2-week contract for a large communications company in China. It was crazy, and they did things like requiring us to leave our hard drives there overnight so we couldn't sell/steal their info. I made a Linux live CD based on Knoppix (before we left the US), and added our "hack tools" to the CDs. We got new HDDs for the assessment data, and left them onsite each night. None of our sources/methods were on those HDs so we could protect OUR stuff. It worked for both parties. Before we returned home we wiped the HDDs and shredded the CDs, then disassembled the drives, destroyed the platters, and disposed of them. Lots of work but pretty much required.

While we were there we were treated as executives (even had our own person that emptied ash trays and brought us whatever we asked for), and were given privileges like having the key to the executive bathrooms and breakrooms. They had modern facilities like actual toilets, and provided free drinks, food, and snacks in the breakrooms. I went into the normal bathroom for employees once and it just had the holes in the floor - no toilets. Squat holes.

t doesn't surprise me for a second that the Chinese would chew chicken feet.

Try eating jellyfish. The execs took me and my co-worker out for dinner and ordered all the delicacies that were on the menu. The jellyfish was boiled, and would take on whatever flavor you mixed it with. It didn't help at all.

If you want to know what it is like - get a balloon and blow it up. Tie it off, and then pop it. Now put it in your mouth and chew it until you can swallow it. Jellyfish.

My vegan co-worker ate a bunch though. I asked him how he could square eating something that was a living being (and especially one that tasted like a balloon) and he said he was stung many times as a child. This was his revenge.

Never had jellyfish…but another delicacy is sea cucumber. The owner of the factory would take us to dinner usually the first night working to thank us for the business. Sea cucumber is like eating cartilage…I couldn’t finish it. Though I redeemed myself with my beer drinking ability. This would usually turn into a competition. Apparently Asians can’t handle beer well. And others in the company were from Germany and Australia…we did well those evenings.

My cholesterol number is off the chart—crazy high, my HDL is crazy high as well, my total cholesterol to HDL ratio is less than 5. I have great blood pressure, easily as good as someone 30 years younger. My eGFR is in the high 90s. I was uninformed about statins 5 years ago, dr put me on statins for 6 months. It dropped my cholesterol, including my HDL. It also dropped my eGFR number. I will never, ever take statins again.

I heard once that blaming cholesterol for plaque is like blaming firemen for burning houses. Inflammation is a signal for cholesterol to come and form a protective layer. So, I have been avoiding statins and working on reducing inflammation.

I had one very insistent doctor who told me to take statins (I had read Dr. Sinatra's book by then) and my answer was close to "Hell, no." He became more insistent, but my response was along the lines of, "The answer is no. What are you going to do about it? Jam them down my throat?" Now that I think about it, I was probably older than he was, and had a long life of facing up to bullies. We did not part friends. (My new endocrinologist and I see eye-to-eye on the primacy of inflammation prevention.)

I tested "high" for "bad cholesterol" years ago (~10 yrs). My doc at that time (I have since "fired" him) wanted to put me on statins. Before agreeing I did some research. One thing I discovered is that the cholesterol "standard" was different in the US as opposed to Europe. At that time I was good to go in Europe but not in the US. Also I discovered that they kept "lowering the bar" on the standard. What they did was to "identify" an ever growing number of patients who had "high cholesterol" and therefore needed to be put on statins. It's a great win/win for BIG PHARMA and BIG MEDICAL. Keep ya' sick and sell ya' the poison to make $$$! Anyway I STILL have "high cholesterol" but refuse to take any meds for it. I'm 73 yrs old!

I was an investigating officer for the Dept. of Transportation for many years. We were trained to find the "most probable cause" or "root cause" when investigating maritime accidents. If you can truly identify the "root cause", and take it off the table, then (theoretically) the accident should never happen again.

Later I became a Quality Management System Auditor, Environmental Management Systems Auditor as well as a Safety Management Systems auditor. In all 3 disciples the companies I audited were required to identify the "root cause" of any incident, accident, non-conformance, near miss, etc.

In addition as a student of the Bible and world history I came to realize that $$$ was usually the chief driver of human events. And as the scripture states the "love of $$$ is the root of all evil". If you are around me for any length of time you might hear me say "follow the $$"! Following the $$ usually leads us to the truth!!

1 Tim 6:19 "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

What myelin is made of

Myelin is the protective sheath surrounding many nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord.

It is not 100% cholesterol. Myelin is composed of about 70–85% lipids and 15–30% proteins by dry weight. Of those lipids, cholesterol is a major component, but there are also glycolipids and phospholipids. Cholesterol typically makes up around 20–30% of the total lipid content.

Function of cholesterol in myelin

Cholesterol provides structural stability and helps maintain the integrity of the myelin sheath.

Myelin formation (myelination) is critical for efficient nerve signal conduction.

Effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs

Statins and other cholesterol-lowering drugs reduce cholesterol levels in the bloodstream, but the brain synthesizes most of its own cholesterol locally.

Blood cholesterol and brain cholesterol are largely separate because the blood-brain barrier prevents most circulating cholesterol from entering the brain.

In theory, certain cholesterol-lowering drugs that cross the blood-brain barrier could influence brain cholesterol metabolism, but most statins do not significantly lower cholesterol within the central nervous system in healthy adults.

The claim that myelin is "100% cholesterol" is factually incorrect, and the direct implication that taking cholesterol-lowering drugs will automatically damage myelin is an oversimplification. The brain largely regulates its own cholesterol supply independently of the bloodstream, so most standard statin treatments are unlikely to cause myelin loss in healthy individuals. However, more research is warranted into the effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs that do cross the blood-brain barrier.

Actually Myelin is 25-28% cholesterol. Still very important. There are papers that associate dementia with not only low HDL-C levels but also more so it’s High levels of HDL-C levels. Statins have been shown to reduce risks of dementia by 13% in those with high levels of HDL-C (>65 mg/dl). Granted all these studies are observational studies. It would take decades to see the results of a double blind study. So not practical.

It may imply that fluctuations in HDL-C may be an issue …not enough data yet.

Recommend finding an Internist you trust and then trust their judgement. Especially if there are Cardiac risks…what good is being mentally intact and yet, Heaven Forbid, has a potentially avoidable cardiac event.

Seems a good place for Your Daily Reminder that cholesterol is the good guy; and that if you try to suppress cholesterol, the liver just makes more

It comprises the myelin sheath

It also plugs tiny lesions in blood vessel endothelium caused by spiky molecules like sugar and its best pal, insulin

Everything the pharmedical assholes have told you about cholesterol is a lie

Doctors' blaming it instead of sugar for arterial occlusion is like blaming firemen for fires - 'Hey, every time I see a fire, I notice there are FIREMEN there! They must be causing it!' Idiots, the hero cholesterol is there to put OUT the fire lit by the sugar

IMHO everyone should stop taking statins—stat

But they are a MAJOR cash cow for the pharmedical industrial complex

It's possible that a large percentage of high blood pressure and cholesterol are misdiagnosed. When your body senses danger, you'll raise your blood pressure and get a cholesterol release. Some people are nervous about even being in a Dr.s office and get more freaked out when they see needle they're going to have jabbed in their arm. If you're taking samples for cholesterol right after a cholesterol release, you're going to have high cholesterol.

The following is from my real life observations:

There is longevity in my family. Many have lived past one hundred or have gotten close within a couple of years. My great-grandfather was one hundred and six and both of my grandmothers were ninety nine when they passed - all living unassisted and on their own. My grandmother's sister passed at one hundred and three. None of my family suffered with mental decline, that is, until my mother's generation. What changed?

I have 3 aunts on my mother's side, all in their late eighties and early nineties. One died from Alzheimer's last year. She had a heart attack in her fifties and was put on a statin and blood pressure medication. In her mind, eating any kind of fat was akin to signing her death warrant. She barely ate anything and was obsessed with the scale. She literally starved herself to death besides taking a statin. She had all the hallmarks of having an eating disorder. As her condition declined, even more meds were prescribed. My other two aunts also suffer with cognitive decline - both have been taking statins for years along with other meds that have increased over time. Sadly, we have had to witness this decline. "But the doctor said this statin was good for me. You don't know what you are talking about and you are full of crap!"

Of my six uncles, only one is still living at ninety three. He takes no statins and his brain is fully functional. The other five, all suffered from mental decline in their last years. All were polypharma, starting with the statins. They only lived to their eighties. Who knows if they would have lived longer if not for their mental decline.

My mother will turn ninety early next year. She is as sharp as a tack and very active. I know this for a fact because she lives with me. I wish I had her energy. A few years ago she was still playing soccer with her great-grandchildren in the back yard. Not bad for an old lady. She refuses to take statins even though her doctors have tried pushing them on her for years. I educated her on statins at least thirty years ago. The only med she takes is for thyroid. I fully expect her to reach the century mark and beyond. I pray I follow in her footsteps.

The common denominators in my family with this generational change in mental decline seems to be polypharma, especially statins, and doctor recommended low fat "heart healthy" diets. Those that followed doctor's orders had their brains turn to mush, and those that didn't follow their doctor's advice are intact and very healthy for their age.

How wonderful to hear of your family's longevity! Sorry about those few who have fallen into the pharma trap. 💔

You're family history is a textbook for anti-statin use.

I believe you will achieve your goal mac! ✨🙏

That's not how that works.

The Myelin is a sheath made of lipids bound to proteins. It already exists in the body.

Cholesterol lowering meds work in the intestines by preventing the absorption of bile acids which are made up of the cholesterol that clogs veins and are just being introduced to the body.

They want you labeled by race, religion, class, sex, etc.

Divided you are weak [no collective power].

Divided you attack each other and miss the true target [them].

No doomers or shills

If you can't use common sense, you'll get banned without hesitation. If you're a shill, you fall under this rule. If you're a doomer, you fall under this rule as you just add garbage to the site like the other two. This includes forum sliding.
