Here's an interesting thought. What if the reason they are planning the new next-gen fighters now is because they know Trump is getting ready to blow the lid off the alien stuff? That might not make sense yet, but if the rumors are true that we already have alien tech that does the anti-gravity stuff, the cloaking stuff and all the other cool stuff we would like, then maybe the next gen will have that tech built in. They can't just build UFOs yet, until aliens are proven and known. Once it comes out that we might have captured alien technology and mastered it. the world will know aliens exist. We can't take advantage of that tech (if it is real) until the world sees and knows about aliens and UFOs.
There is a flaw in that reasoning though. I think we already took advantage of some of that tech (or got help from them) when we built the SR-71. That was in the early '60s assuming we know when it really started. There was nothing anyone else had that could even approach that plane.
