If Apple does go through with this, it would be a golden opportunity for Elon to create a Tesla phone. No spyware, open source, reasonably priced...he could totally bury Apple and make absolute mint on it.

That'd be pretty cool. But do we completely trust him either? I liked the open source phone ideas from a while back, but of course they never really caught on. Open source cars would be cool too. Imagine a roll-your own diesel-electric plug-in hybrid. 200+ mpgs... but I digress. Well, but my point is that the laws and politics governing these things are more to blame than the capability of the tech. I believe that's always been the case. Maybe the Amish have been right all along.

There is the Megasquirt system that lets you build your own ECU with no BS emissions controls and etc.

Making a hybrid would be a bit more in depth I don't know if anyone has done it, but I haven't read up on it much in years. Was considering trying to make one for my 4.2L M119 V8 in my '97 Benz so I could manual swap it, but ended up selling it. Too many electronic headaches outside the engine bay to deal with, even back then for Mercedes. US cars had barely adopted OBD2 at that time...

Anyways, you would need to make an auxillary computer that can read the data needed to know if it should use electric or IC power at any given time, or both. It would require control of your fly by wire throttle, but a backup circuit to bypass it straight to the Megasquirt would be good insurance in case the electric part goes down it's not dead in the water. Things it would need to know are probably battery charge, current fuel consumption and load of the IC engine, and some sort of targets to hit to maximize mpg while not letting the battery get too low . Speaking of which, you also need to trigger regenerative braking so you can recharge.

But if someone figures it out and shares then it could be easier for everyone else.

Wait, are you still talking about the diesel-electric hybrid idea? I feel like something like an F-150 lightning with a modified frunk to house a smallish RV diesel or propane generator set to spin at several optimally tuned RPM steps would get you pretty darn close. All the regen shit is already baked in, you just then need to override the no-charging-while-moving thing and plumb in a fuel tank, engine mounts, oil pan and radiator and exhaust. And Also the auxiliary computer control system you mentioned. That should be fairly trivial to code up with an rpi or arduino. But doing something more sedan-like I guess you're be better of just getting a prius type thing or a Volt type thing... no diesel, but shit... fuckin' EPA.

I'm just worried it would go the way of the Windows Phone. I'm going to guess an X phone would be based on Android unless he made an in-house OS. He could still heavily modify Android for that, though.

I've had an iPhone since 2012. If I ever need to switch out of the ecosystem it will be a hard change since I'm so used to it.

The fact you aren't already due to their greed and horrible price gouging is sad already. Ask anyone that is a millennial or younger what a rotary-dial was, or what "pulse" was vs "touch tone". Then tell them you used to have to pay extra per phone in your house, and pay extra if you used touch tone instead of pulse. Maybe save the "party line" talk for another time. Too much at one time will shut their brains down.

This is an important point. GENERALLY speaking...Android will let you uninstall what you don't want to use. This is true of Gemini, Google's AI crap. Apple will absolutely bake this AI garbage into the iOS level and (Apple being Apple) not let users remove it, or certainly make it hard to disable.

If you actually watch the presentation, your data never leaves the device, and you can turn it off, and the database models are segregated from your personal information. Musk is whining because Apple version of AI won’t work with his totalitarian X social credit app.

They are basically making Siri not retarded

Apple does a pretty good job w/security here.

You mean like their photo scanning CSAM

Which they dropped? Look, there are things you can criticize apple for, but at least relative to the rest of big tech, privacy isn’t one of them.

You have to understand that Musk is in negotiations with Apple to add ‘Grok’ to Apple’s external LLM API. That’s ALL this is about, nothing else.

he’s literally talking out his ass so to get a better licensing deal with Apple

That is a hardcore position to take so Elon definitely knows something more than is being said. Either corporate espionage or something much darker. I suspect the latter.

permalink save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– Sumar0ngi 3 points 2 years ago +3 / -0

Elon has a competitor’Grok’ which is heavily dependent on large data models. Apples segregated approach basically makes Siri not stupid, and the data never leaves the device. The segregated approach won’t work with the totalitarian’X’ social credit app that Musk want.

Musk is a Zionist stooge, and not a good guy. The whole ‘free speech’ warrior is a ruse to get your trust

Seems like Musk is worried about Apple spying (stealing) X's future projects source code thru OpenAI. If I was Musk, I would ban ALL Apple devices from ALL Musk owned companies.

How many Normie/Sheeple Apple users would be ok with Apple auto updating all their devices with OpenAI without actually thinking about the privacy concerns?

permalink save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– Sumar0ngi 3 points 2 years ago +3 / -0

Musk is just pissed because Apples segregated implementation of AI pretty makes his totalitarian credit scoring ‘everything’ app stillborn from the outset.

If people actually watched the Apple presentation, personal user data is segregated and never leaves the device. Everything on the device is accessed with Apples own machine learning SOC (thus the ‘Apple Intelligence’ moniker) much like the current biometric authentication protocol (another thing that pisses off statists)

LLM’s are only accessed externally, much like when siri googles something when she doesn’t know the answer. So in that way it is no different than what happens now.

Musk is not a good guy. He is in league with Zionists and the CCP and is the Trojan horse the way we get to all the totalitarian bullshit. He is controlled opposition

Hell yeah, I am an Apple fanboy.

I am pro-capitalist and Apple is the most successful and profitable capitalist company on earth for all time. They have generated more wealth for more people than any single entity ever.

They make their money by selling products people deeply desire as opposed to Musk who entire paycheck comes from rent seeking the government which, in the end, is a form of coercion.

Musk is a Globalist/Zionist piece of shit who is playing the right for fools and will betray them in the end. Apple just wants to sell cool and expensive hardware that people want.

So yeah, I am an Apple fanboy

The flippancy of the comment suggests to me an undiscriminating perspective. i.e. "Brain chips are a bad and evil idea that is transhumanist"

I think Elon makes some excellent reasons why this level of tech development can be a great positive for humanity, and that he's advocating for something that is diametrically opposed to the "We are God" insanity of the globohomo transhumanists...

Hope that makes sense!

He is just butthurt that Apple didn’t choose Grok as their default API plugin for external AI queries. That’s all.

At some point you will be able to choose which LLM you want Siri to interact with and then he will shut up
