China purchases a lot of wheat from farmers in the Dakotas. How are the citizens of China gonna react when they notice their food ingredients increased double overnight? They will be pissed and 1.4 billion Chinamen will do a lot more harm to the CCP than a an orange man. We just might get to witness the down fall of the CCP and democracy take over in China. God bless President Trump for having the stones to hang in there and take the arrows for his beliefs. He will reshape the political scene on this planet with the tariffs. Stay safe, POTUS, the world needs you.

I wonder if that has to do with the internet being so ubiquitous around this world. Do the young Chinese see what freedom looks like and are saying "We want our freedom, not communism"?

Until they come over here. It was years ago, but an exchange student came over here to stay with a local family. When they went to pick her up at the airport, they noticed her taking pictures of the sky. When they asked her why, she said she'd never seen a sky so blue. They have so much pollution where she came from that there was always a yellow have keeping her from seeing blue sky. I'd imagine we might have a similar experience going elsewhere in the world f om whatever we've been lied to about.

The peasants don't revolt when they are able to fill their bellies. If you fail so spectacularly as a king that your subjects cannot even fulfil their basic needs such as food and shelter, then the gallows shall loom over your future until you rectify the situation.

I don't think that the Chinese govt gives a rats ass what its people think. Tyrants are gonna tyrannize. That's what they do. They've had the everyday chinaman pinned down for 1000s of years. They have tyranny down to a science.

Their only mistake so far was thinking that American patriots were not going to recognize the bullshit when they tried to take over the USA and the rest of the world.

From grok some numbers of wheat production in china

•	Domestic Production (2024-25 estimate): ~137-140 MMT.
•	U.S. Imports (2024-25 estimate): ~2-3 MMT.
•	Ratio: U.S. wheat imports are roughly 1.4-2.2% of China’s domestic production.

China. Can't. Win. A trade war. Against. The United States.

We buy something like ten [EDIT: five] times the amount of crap from them as they buy from us. Their tariffs on our stuff will never have the effect on us that our tariffs will have on them.

China's leverage is in the cost of medicine and consumer goods. I don't think China has much supply elasticity, though. Their economy is overbuilt and they can't have people and factories sit idle, which means they have to produce and sell it somewhere. We have the biggest market and the most affluent consumers. It will be hard to replace us. Meanwhile, we can source scissors from anywhere as a substitution.

I'm old enough to remember when consumer goods said made in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. NEVER did they say China.

Now they almost never DON'T. That can change yesterday AFAIC.

What they purchase mainly from us is food. What if President Trump cuts off those exports for a year? China is in a very bad position and Xi had better figure it out and quickly lest he has a billion starving Chinamen storming his offices.

I've wanted to decouple our supply chains and reliance on China for a very long time.

The fact that China is retaliating after getting called out for ripping us off for decades puts the blame on China.

That makes this all the better.

With AI and technology the world is less reliant on cheap slave labor, which is the only thing China offered. "Those" workers are being replaced anyway by tech. Might as well use technology here. If we still need cheap labor, there is plenty of it in Mexico and making their economy stronger is better for our immigration policy - they will want to stay there for the good jobs rather than invading our country looking for work.

And here is the thing, making things in China simply isn't "cheap" anymore. Has anyone seen the price of a pair of Nikes or a Nike track suit lately? Those two things could set you back $400 to $500. It's absurd! All made in Chyna!

F the CCP.

The retail cost of goods isn't a good sign of how much it costs to produce. All the middle men get their cut of value, plus there's demand that is setting the retail price.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– MAGA_Patriot_1776 3 points 1 year ago +3 / -0

I think the current tariffs on Mexico, and the rest of the world for that matter, was a way to show that the tariffs were not singling anyone out, namely China.

China way overplayed their hand.

With the breaking news that Trump has paused all tariffs for 90 days, EXCEPT for CHYNA, I think the play all along was to set a trap for China to walk into and they jumped right in.

China is the mortal enemy of US. More than any other nation by far.

China played the largest role of all with the Covid Plandemic, and their control of the WHO, and their infiltration of American decision makers.

Trump knows this.

The economic war we are in with Chinahas been decades in the making. I personally believe that Chinapalyed an outsized role in the vocid hysteria, election theft, and the continued gutting of our economy, in addition to their flooding our nation with fentanyl.

We are in a battle royale with China and I expect many more layers to this. I will not be surprised at all if China makes a move on Taiwan as a counter measure.

The Asian pride thing is a real thing. Look at the end of WW2. We had to drop a couple of nukes and then they still didn't want to concede. Only after the Emperor said, "That's enough" did the Japanese put down their rifles. China is so afraid of losing face to America in this situation that the tariff tit for tat will keep going until Xi says, "That's enough". There is a pain limit to which some folks can tolerate and China is just about there. Heck, look at Americans. We are paying three bucks for a gallon of gas and five bucks for a gallon of milk. But have you noticed folks are only grousing about it. They are still paying it and going off to work. Now, when those thi gs get to be around ten bucks a gallon, then the American people will rise up. We don't care about losing face the same as the Asians. We go straight to name calling and beating the piss out of the offender.

The problem is that this gives essentially the rest of the world a reason to cooperate against us - i.e. China can find other suppliers for things that they need due to the vacuum we have created by our tariffs. Similarly, they will find new and expanded markets for their exports due to those markets moving away from American goods.

After seeing who exports the most wheat around the world, you might be correct. America is #4 with Russia, Australia, and Canada rounding up the top three. But I wonder if President Trump would go to these three countries and say, "If you supply China with any wheat we will treat you like we are treating China". So there might be leverage that Trump might have that we, as regular Joe citizen, don't yet know about.

Japan even made a pretty good movie about the end of the war from their perspective, called "The Emperor in August" in English.

Don't worry, it doesn't portray themselves in the sense that they should have just kept fighting. Although it admits there were people saying that, it makes it clear that Hirohito knew Japan had lost and wanted to end it.
