The day is relevant to the American experience and I have no problems recognizing it as long as the proper context is maintained. This day is about the recalcitrance of the southern dem rats in the face of codified law and the Union forcing them to comply. Its the same story as today, rats bending the rules to suit their political needs and conservatives standing up for the rule of law.
