No wonder they stopped teaching cursive to the kids!
Also, the original Constitution is written in cursive. They don’t want people to be able to read the Constitution as it was originally written.
and penmanship back then was on point!
looking at examples of their writing back then, they had crazy good penmanship.
must have the desire and then practice practice practice
There's also a reason the penmanship was so great. The ink quill. I've tried writing with one. It's difficult and slow. Ballpoint pens made it smooth, printers eliminated the need to learn to write. If I write slow, my penmanship is spot on!
I think most historical documents are in cursive now that you mention it.
We taught our children cursive AT HOME. They ASKED US to 💕👍🏽
This is why I love homeschooling my litter
I'm a retired teacher and my granddaughters' school does not teach cursive, so of course Grandma taught them how using the Denealian method.
That’s too awesome...Bless You. 🙏. They are the future.
Don't forget to teach your kids how to read a non-digital clock, how to read a regular map, too.
These are dying skills due to technology.
Also, how to read measurements on a ruler or tape.
Make sure they know difference between cm/in. Important they start measuring at the correct point on the ruler.
With the exception of the microwave, we only have analog clocks in our house.
Teach them how to count change back and how to do simple math in their head.
Also, how to use a rotary phone. Kek
And a compass
That’s what I’ve said for awhile now.
Wow!Thats deep. Good thinking!
Mine too. My son actually prefers cursive to manuscript. LOL
What is "manuscript", which if you decode it means hand writing.
Manuscript is what my son’s Montessori teacher from a few years back called the method of non-cursive handwriting.
My children were taught some awful mish mash of cursive and printing, I don't remember what it was called. One of them taught herself cursive because she thought their method was stupid.
Most penmanship these days is a bastardisation of print and cursive. Specifically, parts of cursive as it relates to speed, and print for anything more difficult to recognize than a 'c' or 'e'. Hybrid 'd', print r, s, z, etc.
The end result is about as bad as you would expect.
In my experience, by the time most kids get to 5th 6th grade, they have stylized their handwriting/printing. Many HS kids use a mix of cursive/printing.
"Manuscript" is what the kids learn as "printing". Cursive is called..."cursive".
I see, Thanks. Maybe because these days everyone has a printer in the house. If you told the child to print, they would run to the machine and print it!!
One of mine does not. 24. Older one learned in same elementary school but younger did not. She has trouble reading it but she has dyslexia also.
Awesome!!! Kids WANT TO LEARN.
My Mom and I both had dyslexia and although we had trouble learning once we did we could also read upside down just as fast. I loved messing with my teachers as they walk up and down the isles while we took turns reading. The first time she saw me reading out loud with my book upside down and wanted to know what I was doing. I played dumb and said I thought it was supposed to be that way.
My school still teaches cursive. My teaching partner and I felt it was an important skill. It also helps with brain memory. Here is an article about it. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-10-kids-smarter.html
You left out some letters. You could tell how disgusted my grandmother was by how many extra letters she stuck in the middle of shit. "Sheeeeit!"
call it OCR protection.
Came here to copy & paste this and then state that I did
came here to laugh at this.
Came here to get a laugh from follow up replies to comments on posts. Was not disappointed.
The AI cant read cursive, but neither can anyone under 20. They stopped teaching writing and math because they are racist.
You beat me to it but I was thinking under 30. At least a very high percentage.
At least you made the effort when it was not pushed in a lesson plan. I went go school mostly in the 80's and you could fail without being able to write in cursive. I was lucky because my mother had beautiful cursive had writing and she taught me well. No offense ment here but can you read an analog clock? Apparently that is a rare thing in the under 30 crowd too. I'm guessing you can because just the fact that you are here and awake puts you light years ahead of you're generation.
Maybe we went to school at similar times, but for us, we were told almost daily in elementary school that the adult world uses cursive and when we got to Jr. high school, we would need to do EVERYTHING in cursive, so it's SUPER IMPORTANT to do EVERYTHING in cursive.
Then, when we got to jr. high, the teachers there specifically told us that it's hard to read, and not to use it ever. High school... same thing.
I always wondered what was up with the elementary school teachers making such a big deal about it only for it to be entirely dropped the moment we left elementary school.
They are under the control of the communist NEA.
This ☝🏼
Same here when I was in elementary school. One of my teachers even taught us calligraphy. Thanks, Mrs. H.
The good ones are never forgotten.
I'm 24 and I learned the shit out of cursive and learned how to read an analogue clock, all shit that was in school still. I don't remember how to write much other than my name LOL but I can read this with some time
They made us learn it in first grade. 1966.
Same, but a bit earlier. I went to Catholic school and they taught us the Palmer method of cursive and it was an actual subject, The nuns were really tough about it, they said it was a mark of intelligence and education. They all had amazingly beautiful handwriting.
Born in ‘61 😎
Same but I was in first grade in the 90's.
Analog clock I can read. And I can write and read cursive. I was taught in elementary school that once I got to middle school if I didn’t know cursive I would fail. Then I got to middle school and cursive was extinct lol
If you practice writing it your reading speed will greatly increase
Want a suggestion for practice? Transcribe the constitution. Bet you will remember more of the exact wording after.
My son cant read or write in cursive. He prints everything. Years ago only a retard would print everything. He tried to learn it but the school system screwed him really bad.
Instead of blaming the schools, try parenting. It is ultimately up to you to raise your kids, deffering to the state won't make their lives better.
My kids were raised right, they reject all the bullshat at school and make fun of the retarded teachers. The math common core homework was done using real math, the teachers kept marking it wrong lol. I could go on and on, but he cant write in cursive. He tried and just couldnt do it because the school system failed him.
Probably this, am 32, and was taught curisve in school. I have an 18 year old brother who was not.
Machine Learning AI can translate text from your camera on billboards and products on the fly. Y'all are naive if you think writing in cursive is a legit safeguard.
it might not stop AI but the kids these days look at it like it is chineese
As far as I’m aware it’s still taught here In the UK. It is where I am anyway..
Unless homeschooled. All our kids and write and read cursive.
Excellent. Q told us to find ways around the computers.
Ah crap! Thats it! They cant read the constitution because its in Script cursive! These young ones have no idea what it says….
We should have realized this earlier frens!
I didn't realize this when I was fighting OBE in the 90s while my kids were young but I knew that Outcome based education was no good and would dumb down the kids.
they can't drive stick-shift either.
haha that is funny.
also i found while deployed overseas, the newer folks had to be taught stick-shift as a lot of the vehicles overseas in some areas like middle east are manual transmission.
Kek.
I can read cursive, but can't drive stick.
And read a clock, ruler, map AND do math without a calculator!
I'm in my 30's and can do both.
Christ, I always wanted to learn to drive manual, but I never had the opportunity, because by the time I was learning to drive, nobody I knew had a stick shift...
Taught myself how to drive a stick at 16 when my Dad tried to and gave up after 10 minutes. It sometimes was the only car available to run around after school in. I wouldn't want to drive one now but it was good to learn that.
i have heard stories of people handing handwritten notes to younger folks and being told "I can't read this". SMH.
Wait... is this why they stopped teaching cursive?!
Could be, could be a lot less nefarious as well. Could simply be it wasn't seen as important with the advent of computers. This is kind of a chicken/egg thing, honestly. Keep in mind that OCR algorithms can only read printed text, because they've been trained to do so for the last decade or so, but with cursive being downplayed, the need to program computers to understand it likely also became less important.
...Kinda makes me wonder if it wouldn't be worth it to pick up American Shorthand...
I use to write my journal entirely in Shorthand,,,,just so no one could read it. :) It blows my 64 year old mind that kids aren't being taught cursive or how to read a 'real' clock. WTH?
Lazy teachers, poor budgeting on the school's part, etc.
Also, digital clock readouts are everywhere, so even if kids are taught it, it doesn't stick, because they don't need it badly enough to learn it.
Wonder if I can use that as an excuse the next time my doctor gives me one of those memory tests where you have to draw a clock? :) "I only read digital?"
you can try it, but he might make you draw a digital clock in that case, lmao.
This should be stickied. Top tier info anon!
Sadly, the majority of Americans under the age of 30 can't either.
Great reason to bring back cursive. Teach your children. It's faster and easier to write that way, anyhow. You don't need to keep picking up the pen.
Cursive is individualistic, for the most part, and they hate that.
This made my day share with everyone
Well, all the poor kids who were never taught cursive will miss this! And by poor, lest we go off on a tangent, I mean the undereducated who are under the control of the communists. Homeschoolers will be just fine!!
Our kids do private school, they were doing cursive in second grade. Typically it started 3rd, but they shared the class. Both my kids got done with their assignments early, and followed the cursive lessons.
Both write it fluently, and the elder can do quite a bit of calligraphy, she's quite good!
Fire away with cursive lads!!!
I'm glad I was one of the last kids to learn cursive. I don't write in that shit but I sure can read it.
Unfortunately neither can the youth of today. :/
Smart person, neither can most left idiots, so help yourself.
Go ahead and add a confuser line that threads in and out and around word. Easy for a hum to look past but not for a machine. Ever notice the captchas?
The only problem with this is that the younger generation can't read cursive lol. We won't reach them this way.
It's actually not hard to get AI to learn cursive.
If anything, you're providing them with data to tweak their algorithms.
I've heard that just slanting the text throws their AI off, so I've been posting things rotated 17-degrees :)
has it worked? i got the ban multiple times for screencaptures of my warnings from fb. rat communist bastards
I posted on FB and asked people to let me know if they see it; nobody has commented that they are seeing it. I'm thinking that I may be shadow banned/censored. That's worse than a warning or "fact check" label, because you don't know if anyone is seeing something you post!
Nobody posted a comment to it to let me know it appeared on their "timeline", so I believe the AI does detect such posts. I'll have to try a cursive post to see what happens.
Next up: captcha writing.
Yet. But then again, the computer people who would make it happen probably can't read it either.
LOL... My handwriting has always been atrocious, doubly so for cursive. However, this gives me an edge, as it's still legible by anyone who was taught it in school (or "joined letters" as we called it when first taught it). Not that I didn't get to practice it, either. When I was sent to detention, one of the punishments was writing lines in cursive. Which happened a bit.
Hey what do you know, neither can their fact checkers!
pretty soon we will be developing our own captchas to bypass the AI censorship. we've come full circle.
Haven’t written in cursive for a while but still very much remember how to
The indoctrinators (calling them teachers in the traditional sense, with what they have DONE to our kids, IS NO LONGER TRUE) should all be fired and in some cases JAILED.
Just imagine being able to write it in cursive and backwards like Leonardo Da Vinci's mirror writing. Penmanship has declined massively in this country.
Oh Yeah, spread the word frens, spread it far and wide!!!
I struggle with the Constitution because the 's' always looks like an 'f' to me. I think there are other letters that are difficult, but the s/f thing is the problem I remember most.
The fact checkers probably can't read it either.
I can barely read my own cursive; virtually impossible for anyone else to :) (I've found old school notes and have no idea what half the words are :) )
I cant even imagine the conversations I am going to have with my grandkids. Come here sonny, let me tell you about the time we defeated the AI and algorithms of big tech with cursive. Its crazy.
