I worked billing and tech support for a cable company briefly in my 20s. Was able to see how much of the average cable bill is tax and surcharges. Couldnt pay for that in good conscience ever again, assume its even worse now. I ended up refusing to split the cable bill with roommates back before I owned my house. Been almost 15 years now that I haven't had cable in the home. Feels pretty good. I love the crazy looks I get from Boomers when I tell them. They'll ask "well how do you get your news?" to which I reply, "I have a journalism degree, the last thing I need is to get my news from TV corporations". Usually evokes a real life version of the NPC meme or Pikachu face meme lol

A lot of them - okay, I was born just on the brink, I'm either a boomer or Gen X, except when the idea to name generations was first born that would have been Generation Jones, 1954 - 1965, because the conditions in which we grew up were different to the "actual" boomers, but because it was only a period of ten years that kind of got mostly added to boomers later - well, anyway, people my age and older still mostly trust the "experts", and that what they see on news and in television in general would be mostly true. Because that is what we were raised to do.
And what the news tell and what you see in all MSM now, and for several years, is no longer at all nuanced, now they are very openly pushing certain world views. But the change still happened slowly enough that a lot of frogs never realized, so they didn't jump out of the kettle and are still swimming in the hot water.
Younger generations seem to be rather more suspicious. I suppose it may be because they are in general still more curious about the world, older people often seem to lose that curiosity and start thinking that they already know how things are. And especially for the youngest, who are now either in their late teens or in early adulthood, the disparity between what the news etc claim, and what they can find out or see with their own eyes, is presumably rather more obvious.
But a lot of the boomers see what they expect to see: because they believe that the "experts", scientists, politicians etc are telling the truth, that is how things of course are. No need to try and look beneath the surface.
And yep, that "lot of" applies more to people who are, or were, during their working years, doing white collar jobs, have some sort of higher education, and mostly live in cities.
I agree - mainstream to conservative boomers (i.e. not dyed-in-the-wool hippies or lifetime union types) are basically too trusting of the ‘establishment’, including gov’t, medical, TV, news, and education etc.
Agree, they were raised that way (to trust). That trusting nature has been twisted and used against them on many fronts.
The programming has been going on for a long time now and is difficult, or near impossible to break in my experience.
There is another element not discussed much. There is an obvious ‘influence campaign’ on social media and elsewhere training younger people to ‘hate’ boomers. Basically blaming boomers for all of their own generations problems. National debt, housing prices, social security, pensions, etc. These foibles brought to us by the cabal are now being used to turn generations against one another. ‘Boomer Hate’ or whatever you want to call it is real and, in my opinion, being fomented & engineered to divide people.

I think it's mostly city boomers. I'm 71 and I don't know a single "boomer" that's liberal. Course I'm southern and rural, but I have friends and hunting buddies all over the country from Nebraska to Upstate New York and all of them are conservative. The only older liberals I've ever met were in my working years in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, NYC and Seattle.

Why are so many younger people lumping all people of the "Boomer" generation into a certain ideaology? Every generation has its share of people who lean one way and others that lean the other. Because what we have now was actually mostly set up by people who are members of the boomer generation. So all boomers get the blame. Boomers are the generation that claimed in their youth, often very loudly (at least according to the MSM of those times), that they would make the world better, fix everything, and, well, they, or we, pretty much failed.

And maybe it is different in America, but I am in Europe, and I am rather disappointed in my own generation, and the ones a bit older and a bit younger. My experience of way too many of them is that they mostly spend their lives being way too idealistic, they tried to make things work the way they thought they should work, and voted for people who sold them daydreams instead of trying to find out what actually would work and then trying to get people who also did that into power.
I was born in '62. growing up and living in the USA, I can tell you the boomers are pretty much split between liberal whackos and conservatives. the problem is party politics and the media. remember, those in power want us divided. does it matter if it is divided by race, class, sex or age? in 40 years, GenX, gen z and all these younger generational groups will be facing similar resentment as is directed at boomers atm, so maybe people should be focusing on more positive things then demonizing a particular age group.

Boomer here as well. I'm guessing it's around 25% of the conservatives that have drifted to the left more than usual. And based on observation and I'm pretty actively involved in the community that guessing that the majority of these conservatives (90%) that are negative against Trump are over 75 yrs old, retired, not very active and watch a lot of the mainstream media TV with a lot more free time than most is their only resource of news except for maybe Facebook. If that is their only source of daily news than I believe it's probably quite easy to brain-wash them. And with the televised media numbers that keep trending downwards we've all noticed how things have shifted and will continuously shift more to the right. Strange times and I just hope and pray this trend continues moving others to the right because hardly nothing makes sense from those on the left. But I can certainly understand because I too, have (or had) a conservative mother who thinks and acts like a leftist who thinks Trump if the worst ever President. While, I strongly believe he could become the best President of all-time in the US.
Boomers grew up on Radio, newspapers, and TV media in the 50's. They were taught shit like Walter Cronkite and Walter Winchell were people that were beyond reproach in their day. You didn't question the news. They were easy targets to MK Ultra.

Not sure where you get your info. I am a boomer in Texas and I have been in this fight since before 911. My grown kids are MAGA. My grandkids are MAGA. I have a couple of great grand kids and they are too young to tell, but I lose no sleep over this. My friends from childhood are mostly MAGA and my friends since then are as well. Maybe as mentioned by another post, it is a city versus country living thing. But back to this post, I do not relate with the premise you put forth.

I am a Boomer. But I can tell you I am surrounded by many liberal Boomers including some in my church.
Many of them still watch the Fake News Media and don't do social media at all. So they are not getting the real news. That is the major problem. My parents and in laws were from the Greatest Generation and my mother in law hardly ever watched tv (came about mostly in the 50's). Radio was her thing. She listened to talk radio all day.
Each generation has their own media connections, Boomers grew up without computers and cell phones. So they don't do computers well.
I on the other hand along with my hubby got involved selling the first IBM Personal computers back in 1981 or 82 So we were computer savvy before it was cool. However, now the systems are much more complex to deal with than when they first came out. But both of us get all our info and news online. We don't ever watch the news on TV.
My hubby drove to the first sales of the IBMs at a Sears store in NYC and told them he wanted to purchase a large number of them for some of his buddies at work. They offered him a dealers license to sell them in our area and we did. He got another guy to join him to install a second disk drive (system came with only 16k of memory ... we expanded it up to 256K since they only came with the single disk drive but room to expand.. And our business was born.
We sold these systems to local businesses and bundled them with a software progarm (no windows at the time) so my husband had to write it in code to specify what each business needed.
I taught their secretaries how to us the softward. My hubby and his buddy sold these on the side for about a year before my husband got a job transfer.
We still own two of the original IBM computers complete with keyboards and floppies. I believe we own two of the first ones ever made.
Media and personal vulnerabilities play a role, but none of their ideological capture could have been possible if not for Academia. Marxists in universities all throughout the West infiltrated in the late 80s and never stopped their PC march toward totalitarianism. Add Social Media as an influencing factor, and you'll better understand how we got here.

I know a lot of conservative boomers. I am on the edge of that Cohort and Gen X. Depending on the definition used, I am one or the other. The older generation in my family were raised in NYC/NJ area and are all conservative.

I was going to say something similar. The conservative boomers probably weren't the hippies dropping acid, burning bras, and screwing anything that moved. Maybe some were, but it is possible they grew up or straightened out when they had to deal with the harsh realities of life. The war(s) probably changed a bunch of them.
Note - I'm Gen X (male), not a boomer. I've had at least 1 computer my entire adult life and most of my later childhood (started with a Commodore Vic 20 around '81 or '82). I bought a real computer at 17 (a Tandy 1000SL with a 10mb hard card, upgraded to 256k of RAM, and an extra floppy drive). My generation had to deal with both parents wanting to work - leaving us at home fending for ourselves a lot. I learned to program, and later to hack. That probably helped more Gen X people to become - and stay - conservative.
I do however want to point out that we owe a LOT to the boomers, and to whatever the prior generation was called. I'm not talking about war and all that stuff - specifically computers/computing. Some of the boomers were the pioneers that lead us to the digital systems we know today, but one pre-boomer stands out the most to me. If any of you GenZ/Millennials or even some Gen X people have never heard of Grace Hopper you absolutely need to.

I'm 76 and I'm a Boomer! My Patriotism got me 20 years in the Military and nice Retirement for the last 31 years! It also added to my feeling of giving something to my Country and not complaining constantly like the left. My personal beliefs are Conservative, but I was put in the leftist category by conservative Republicans because I was anti war, since the Viet Nam war, I always had an intuition that the government covered up things, and for most of my life it was Republicans running the government, I myself tried to disengage with a lot of modern life, the rat race, etc, which immediatly caused people to label me a hippie. I wanted a simple, almost monastic life to be as close to the natural world and God, hippie labeled. I hated the AMA and big pharm before it was trendy, saw all the government sponsered welfare as a terrible trap to keep people poor, some called me anti USA for that, was eating organic and using herbs for healing since the 70's. Things have come full circle. I would be the first person to prepare meals for someone hardworking who fell on bad luck, that is my Gospel talking to me, so, the leftist mentality of some of my peers comes from the fairy tales they were told by the Democrats, that urban renewal would save the poor, that liberal social ideas would help women. Good ideas and bad ideas got thrown into a pot, mixed and stirred and cooked by a media corporation that does not care at all. Wisdom comes from experience, yes, but how many who live in an elite world, or strive to be that, have experienced anything real? I do not know that many liberals anymore, my good friends are sensible humble people, still working well into their 60's and seventies. Acquaintances that are peers are total hypocrites, the liberal ones. The Bernie people my age are the worse. Claiming they are liberal and want all the social services in the world to "take care" of the "marginalized", but do not even know the workers who come to their homes to fix their driveways or solar panels, they don't know their first names, nor are there any workers or blacks on their friends page on FB, and certainly seek just as many tax breaks that they can. Maybe it makes them feel young and hip, the sixties was a wild ride and I am glad to say I am still here and well and on the right path for a long time, only because I turned to God. They are so buffered from everything, and then go and watch MSM to tell them the outrage of the week. It is only since MAGA have I met other like minded people regarding health, food, toxins and pharm, before that all of my values were labelled as leftist,as recently as Bush.
