I don’t think it goes far enough because we all know, common sense, you can’t be loyal to more than one country. I don’t think they should be allowed to run at all.
I've thought about that before, could make it only trigger once they apply for a foreign passport or visit the country they are a dual citizen of.
Knew someone who didn't find out they were a dual citizen until the applied to serve on a submarine(dual citizens are not allowed on them). They let him serve on one after renouncing.
That doesn't seem right. We'd be disqualifying some very patriotic people.
What do you do about the people that were born here and have a hundred years ancestry all here, but are blue haired left wing nut jobs? Including those currently in Congress?
Agree wholeheartedly with the no dual citizens. including 'allies'! However. not so with the 3rd Generation Requirement. Not even sure I would meet that standard! Even the natural born citizen clause for the Presidency allows for 2nd generation Americans. .Another thing to consider... Some natural born citizens are not as freedom -loving as those who came from a country where freedom was taken away, and who appreciate being here!
That’s cool and all but I am not leaving any chance to infiltration if I can. Secret societies that infiltrated Christianity waited multiple generations to do so. Not gonna take that risk with immigrants.
Technically a religious government with laws and world views opposing our constitution. Similar to communism in many ways except they have a physical death penalty for the slightest infraction. Progressives have a social death penalty, I believe progressives should be banned for the same reasons, they lie, cheat and steal, a felony conviction for moral terpritude should also get you banned.
That doesn't seem right. We'd be disqualifying some very patriotic people (until proven wrong, Ted Cruz was one of those. He's dual Canadian and American citizen.
What do you do about the people that were born here and have a hundred years ancestry all here, but are blue haired left wing nut jobs? Including those currently in Congress?
This is just racism by ancestry and a desire to disenfranchise naturalized citizens and those born or descended from naturalized citizens. Are the "3rd-generation" types willing to stand up and carry the burden of leadership and activism? In my 74 years, I have seen no such evidence.
I agree wholeheartedly. But I would take it a step further: If you hold dual citizenship, you are banned from holding ANY local, state, or federal office position. In addition, we should ban lobbyists, any acceptance of monies/presents from corporations/companies, any stock trading by self, family, friends connected to managing/trading on your behalf. Term limits should be limited to 4 in the House and 3 in the Senate. The state you represent should consider whether to approve a pay raise every term during elections by majority vote. This comment about term limits targets those holding office without dual citizenship.
How about we go further and say that someone with dual citizenship can't even work for government at any level, and cannot receive any money from the Treasury (national or local) for goods, services, grants or loans. Zip, zero, nothing at all
Eh, I don't think dual citizens should be able to hold office.
I don't need more Israeli politicians just because they "declared" that half their loyalty isn't to this country when they decided to run. It fixes nothing.
Spain offers a right-of-return citizenship as well. Probably other countries, too.
Would we need to hold a treaty in place with all RoR countries for if someone became a politician to revoke that right? They could always get into office then ignore it after the fact. How could it be enforced after the damage was already done? What if instead of offering citizenship they offered bribes and cash as has been being done?
No idea what the solution could be, but it seems like a tricky situation.

I don't think they should be allowed to hold office in the US. Renounce your foreign citizenships or don't try to rule over us. No dual loyalties or escape hatches.
No!!! Fuck no!!!! Dual citizens should not hold office ever. Should noy legally be allowed to run peruod. You cant even claim a country you are willing to be loyal to.
America shouldn't accept dual citizenship at all. If you are a US citizen, you cannot be a citizen of another country. If you're a foreigner who just got citizenship, part of that process should be formal relinquishment of citizenship from your previous country.
At a minimum, no dual citizenship for any elected office.
I don't mind making it known as a principle of transparency. But it means very little.
My cousin has dual American-French birthright citizenship. Her mother was American and her Father was French. She has no political ambitions, but anyone in such a status would be held bound by their oath of office.
I'm not impressed with this 3rd-generation only requirement. Plenty of opportunity for 3rd generation Americans to run for office, and who runs? Stupid Democrats and nearly as stupid RINOs. 3rd-generation is meaningless. All you wind up doing is limit the available candidates for office.
I place special blame on the "patriotic" community, so quick to complain, and so laggard to volunteer. Zillions of gun owners, and a dearth of people joining the NRA to defend the 2nd Amendment. I saw this in union politics: conservative union members carping about the liberal composition of the union council---but completely unwilling to run for a council seat to change the politics. And today, we have problems with schools and all kinds of institutions because conservatives were complacent and sat on their collective asses, refusing to "get involved." As though "getting involved" was somehow corrupt. We don't need more of what got us here.
No, we need the right people, whether 30th generation or recently naturalized. People who support the Constitution and are willing, courageous, and have vision.
I want anyone with dual citizenship to be ineligible to run for any office in America. If you want to be a citizen and run you must give up past citizenship of other countries first.
Not just office. No (man too many typos today…working at same time :) public servant should have dual citizenship *. If a public teacher has dual citizenship they should be fired. If we have a public house cleaner with dual citizenship, fired.
Some will take this to a far side. If one volunteers to the USA Military they should not have a dual citizenship.
Dual citizenship is not a thing based on the oath that all foreigners take to achieve US citizenship. It starts out swearing the following.
The current Oath of Allegiance is as follows:
“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
That seems to clearly eliminate any dual citizenship option to me.
I don’t think it goes far enough because we all know, common sense, you can’t be loyal to more than one country. I don’t think they should be allowed to run at all.
No dual citizens and you should be a 3rd generation American to run for office.
How do you prevent the dual citizenship if a country offers it unilaterally based on ancestry?
The country we typically discuss here is not the only country in the world with that system in place.
3rd generation seems sensible.
Don't have to apply for citizenship to the 2nd country, Italy offers opportunity for dual citizenship based on ancestry, as well.

You aren’t following the criteria. Spain, for example, also offers right of return for clear Spanish ancestry.
Seems like we should handle that case, but I don’t know enough to have any thoughts how it could be done.
Agree wholeheartedly with the no dual citizens. including 'allies'! However. not so with the 3rd Generation Requirement. Not even sure I would meet that standard! Your ancestry should have to be traceable to before the Civil War, with no foreign ancestors who were born after the war.
That's fair. Plenty of people have been here for 5 or 6 generations.
What if someone is 10th generation on one side and 2nd generation on the other side of their family? What "generation" does that make them?
I’ll even top that, Islam disqualifies you for state and federal office - no exceptions.
Doesn't Islam qualify as a "nation"? I def agree with your perspective.

Absolutely!!!
And nose rings! (and/or a man-bun).
I agree. If your a dual citizen you shouldn't be allowed to hold any office.
Exactly.
Pick a lane!

Citizenship is not immutable. Cruz could renounce his Canadian citizenship if he wants to run for office here.
I feel this way.
Exactly!
Mathew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
Amen, that's the judeo Christian value they claim we have right there
I agree wholeheartedly. But I would take it a step further: If you hold dual citizenship, you are banned from holding ANY local, state, or federal office position. plain common sense so easy but so little applied
Eh, I don't think dual citizens should be able to hold office.

He should include all Federal employees in the bill too.
Should be an automatic disqualifier.
This bill is weak AF...

How about NO DUAL CITIZENS in our Government??
None! Nada!
I don't think they should be allowed to hold office in the US. Renounce your foreign citizenships or don't try to rule over us. No dual loyalties or escape hatches.
Better yet, people with dual citizenship should be prohibited from holding office.
No office at all should be held by one with dual loyalties.
No. They should be be banned
No!!! Fuck no!!!! Dual citizens should not hold office ever. Should noy legally be allowed to run peruod. You cant even claim a country you are willing to be loyal to.
Dual citizenship should disqualify a person, but it's a start.
Calirado governor poleass is a dual citizen…gay…schooled in california and bought kids with his ‘partner’…
Shit should not exist. Can not be a citizen of 2 countries.
Bullshit. The should not qualify for office.
You don't need an"act". They should be disqualified from holding any office. ... As the libs like to say "Full Stop"
That should be just common f'ing sense. If someone I may vote for has allegiance to another country, we should know before we vote not after.
Such persons should be precluded from
But I do like the idea to require disclosure.
Because we're under foreign occupation.
Fire and ban every israeli snake.
Should only be loyal to the USA if you are running for office.
It's a start, but they should be banned from public office.
Apply same to all existing elected officials and anyone receiving a federal paycheck. Expulsion from office/ fired if fails to disclose.

NO to dual citizenship.
Only Patriots, Americans, FOR AMERICA

That may be true but doesn't cover Americans who get citizenship in other countries.
A law that considers seeking then obtaining second citizenship or foreign passport renunciation of US citizenship would be better.
