Underground labs and all of that aside, the fact that there may be some high ranking foreign officers and forces pinned down there is enough for some in the West to mess their diapers over - especially since they are not supposed to be there. The West would have a really hard time trying to spin that one and it gives more credibility to some of the Russian allegations. However, I am not ready to completely disregard the weapons facility rumor either. Former Soviet bloc countries have been hotbeds for this kind of research for years - Ukraine being one of the worst.

My understanding is that there is no way the West can allow those high profile targets to be captured - no way, no how. That means, if they cannot extract them, they will take those operators out themselves if they run out of options for removal. If they blow up the plant, they will do it in such a way as to blame the Russians. My guess is that they will probably make some kind of backchannel deal with the Russians in exchange.

What I don’t get is from what I understand the Russians control air, land and sea to that place. How would NATO have a chance in extraction? Most likely under the guise of a civilian or humanitarian mission.

What I don’t get is there is purported to be some 25-30km of underground tunnels under there from several releases I have read. Surely, there has to be a number of secret tunnels or evacuation points that were created and hidden for just such a scenario, no? Perhaps Russia knew of all of these and have them contained as well.
Regardless, I don’t like the desperation that seems to be developing here and suspect something terrible (tactical nuke deployment) or something is coming to clear the entire surface of Russian troops to allow the evacuation of whatever they are hiding. Naturally, the media will blame Russia even though this would take out all of their own forces. This isn’t going to end well. Maybe the Azov’s will do us all a favor and hit the self destruct button underground.
