So 20 is very low for daytime activity even on a weekend. And no p8s on Florida coasts which are always running. A SAM heading to FL meow.
I can think of only one reason to stop all air traffic...you don't want them in the air when a nuke goes off. The EMF would drop them out of the sky. I know scary thought but had to share , If it is an unrealistic thought please let me know...

The fiscal budget ended on October 1st. This would all have happened in September. They don't burn excess funds at the beginning of the fiscal year because they don't know how much they have as excess yet.
My guess is they've been instructed a long time ago to ignore Mil aircraft when transponders are off. They would only see a handful locally at any given time, so few would notice anything unusual.
My guess is if the transponders were on, that would give Air Traffic Control the type of aircraft and the aircraft's tail number. Without the transponder information, all the ATC can see is a generic shape of an aircraft. Again, just guessing.
While I don't track daily, I have never seen this before.
No matter what time of day or night, there is always something up and transmitting.
So the only obvious answer that I can come up with is they are simply not transmitting for some reason.
