Big polluters: One massive container ship equals 50 million cars
The Guardian has reported on new research showing that in one year, a single large container ship can emit cancer and asthma-causing pollutants equivalent to that of 50 million cars. The low grade bunker fuel used by the worlds 90,000 cargo ships contains ...
It's always the same story. You take a short shower and buy that expensive LED bulb or low water washing machine, but industry can blow through electricity and water like there's no tomorrow. That is, until the govt wants to destroy certain industry to take power.
The only way shipping a wooden cup from fucking china is cheaper than buying one made by your next door neighbor is if our entire system is bullshit,
Yep, I was thinking the same thing. We've been screwed by China for years. This shit must come to a full stop.
Our politicians and corporations were the ones that fucked us. China was just an opportunist that liked the deals they were being offered. Fast forward 40 years, they went from building industrial capacity to meet our import demand to having an Intellectual Property theft ring branch office in every university in America and having John Cena beg them for forgiveness in fluent Chinese on national television for some lame insignificant media gaff.
Only way to bargain with China is hardline now. They're fucking ruthless.
Weak (or willfully destructive) administrations really took us here. If we had kept tariffs on imports for at minimum important goods (tech, plastics, metals, medicine, etc.) we would have had a stronger manufacturing base.
History would have gone a completely different direction, and America would have the reins still.
Instead, we allowed manufacturers to endlessly outsource, leading to a flood of consumable products that destroy the ocean (NOT climate change!) and are ultimately worse deals for the consumers.
We also allowed a weak, small region with the name of "Taiwan", firmly within a hostile nation's grasp, have essentially about 90% of the world's silicon fabrication.
So now, not only is China going to be stealing all of those processes and trade secrets, they'll be profiting off of them and strategically withholding them, essentially putting us into a world crisis that could lead to war with them.
In a war, what's important? Medications. Antibiotics.
Who manufactures most of the U.S.'s medication and antibiotics?
China.
It's pretty fucking bleak on that front and could have been avoided under a nimble navigator or two.
There's also the factor of our fiat currencies losing their value, forcing corporations to turn to cheap labor, low-quality parts, and inferior manufacturing processes just to allow average folks to be able to afford the things we used to buy. My parents' first dishwasher lasted 20 years before it died. In the last 20 years, I've been through 5 dishwashers and the one I have now is crap but I can't really afford to replace it, despite earning a supposedly decent wage.
For decades they've been hiding inflation (i.e., depreciating fiat currencies) by making products cheaper to produce, from agricultural products to appliances to clothing to you-name-it. Companies and governments have to let China take over manufacturing to hide the reality of our increasingly worthless currency. We simply can't afford to keep making stuff the same quality here at home the way we used to.
But we're told inflation was being kept at 2% (prior to Biden). It was an illusion. Sure the prices only went up a little, but the quality for the money kept going down, down, down.
China is paying the price with pollution, if I thought oceans were spared the pollution I would not mind buying China garbage .
I live in a lumber town -- and there's no fucking way we can make that product for that cheap.
I bet your town doesn't have rampant lead in its products though.
Checkmate 78 cent Chinese lead cups make water taste sweeter, obviously they win
Mountain living is pretty healthy. We have good agriculture too because the rivers drain down into very fertile valleys. And we do have excellent water and most homes here draw off their own wells. We are the upstream. Healthy people. Its just not very convenient living and the economy hasn't seen a boom since the Gold Rush.
Count your blessings I guess.
Bingo
Even more fun is exporting to China.
When you put your plastics in a bin to "recycle," you're having some trucks carry your plastic to the coast, where it's put on these ships and sent back to China, where it's promptly dumped into the ocean, which we pay them for. Isn't going green great?!
China stopped taking that years ago, in 2018.
It's mostly sent to places like Bangladesh now.
Ok? Replace "China" with "a shithole east Asian country exactly the same distance away as China." Much more green.
My case wasn't that it's more green.
My case is that even China doesn't want this shit anymore.
It was never green, it was just kicking the can down the road.
Fair enough, sorry for the tone of the reponse.
ah.. I'm in early morning "super pedantry" mode.
I get it.
That "recycling" crap always seemed fishy to me. What about the environmental cost of the transportation?
The transportation is the cheap bit. The actual recycling is the expensive bit, and I highly doubt that they'd be selling the materials for a high enough price to justify a buyer.
Bandai has runs of Gunpla (Gundam model kits) that are called "Ecopla", which is essentially recycling their own plastic from defective runners to create new runners for kits, and that's truly the best way -- in house recycling to minimize waste.
But once it hits the consumer, that plastic is their plastic and isn't going to be recycled, just tossed into the garbage
When I was a kid, soda came in glass bottles instead of plastic. Grocery stores would collect and pay back deposits, then Coke & Pepsi would wash & refill the bottles. Guess who first lobbied municipal governments to start recycling programs? Soda companies. They didn't want the hassle and cost of collecting and reusing bottles; this way, the taxpayer would fund the recycling programs instead.
In my area, the plastic goes to the same landfill as the paper and other garbage. It isn't cost effective to sort and sell.
Still don’t understand why we can’t mass produce biodegradable plastic made from hemp etc Not to mention all the other products that can be made from hemp
Biodegradable plastic is and has always been a scam.
If global warming is such a problem why do most if not all decrying it own beachfront mansions worth millions?
So they can report back on the shoreline destruction with first hand knowledge? /sarc
Its actually an economic war on normie millionaires by globo-corpo-cabal class. Communism is just a stepping stone towards serfdom. What they want is serfdom. Normie millionaires are a barricade against serfdom and an obstacle to consolidating local power into their hands alone. They want local normie millionaires to be willing to sell their land and property and leave the coast.
The beachfronts and other places rich with natural resources and aesthetic value are the places they want absolute dominion over because those places will be protected by the regime in case of societal collapse.
Global warming accomplishes a lot more shit than just that but consolidating high value land under their control is a priority for them too.
When do we stop importing Chinese shit? When we stop buying it. Maybe we shouldn't just be boycotting beer....
It's a strange dynamic. China needs us to buy all their shit BUT China is trying to destroy the US. Eventually, when the dollar is worth 5 cents and their crap is too expensive China will die.
But that's not the worst part of it. China's one-child policy has caught up to them. In 10 years their profitable workforce will retire and no one will be there to work in their factories. THEY ARE SCREWED.
The dollar is already under 4 cents (1912 money)
LOL.... so it's worth less than the cost of the paper?
Faggots will be the reason I quit drinking…
But, weren't they the reason you started drinking in the first place?
I avoid Chinese goods when at all possible. Problem is, there often isn't even an option nowdays. If it comes down to it I'll buy something used in good condition so at least the seller is making a buck rather than China making another.
I went on cruise ship once. When it cleared the Baltimore harbor it switched fuel to bunker and we left a long river if black air behind us for days. Save the planet by staying home.
And that's the core of it, isn't it? This entire climate hoax is to keep people at home, in cages. The Electric Revolution is a bridge to nowhere. As soon as we all convert they're going to pull the plug on us. Genocide.
E-cars are a scam.
A wise person once said:
Mining coal is not ok, but mining lithium and cobalt is a-ok?!
People need to think 🤔
In the olden days they had wind powered ships.
That's OK, you can stay home and be traumatized.
This is where a large majority of your used engine oil winds up. The chunks get filtered out and it winds up as bunker fuel additive for ships to burn.
So they come to my back yard and dig up where I dumped my used oil? Neat!
Best weed killer around.
Damn your inconvenient logic.

"The Great Global Warming Swindle"
https://www.bitchute.com/video/rrX0mzJ0aZz5/
The whole thing is a fraud, and it's easy to show.
More CO2 is good, think mirror.
Exactly. CO2 comprises .04% of the atmosphere and yet if it dips down below .03%, plants around the world will begin dying.
And yet, they're calling 'zero carbon' the GREEN movement
It has never been about climate, environment, or sustainability. It has always been about power or control.
Heres something to think about peeps,..down here in nz,we sell our fish to China,.and then we buy it back cheeper than you can buy it here,so how the fuk does that work,.same thing with coal,.we shut down our biggest coal fired,Power Station, litterally a stones throw from our biggest coal mine because of,.you know,."global warming,.and now we buy our coal from Asia,.at massive costs in $$$$$ and not to mention increased polution,.from roughly,50 million cars, per cargo ship,So were worried about climate change and pollution in nz, but we dont give a shit about the pollution and climate change in Asia, .Whats with that shit,..?!,.
The USA is doing that too. Biden shut down our Alaskan pipeline and halted all drilling for oil on our lands, but then we were buying it from Russia. That doesn’t make any sense either. I’m gonna say it’s money laundering or there’s higher powers involved with a much worse plan in play (New World Order/One World Government).
I think you nailed it,.(New World Order/One World Government) .I didnt think id be saying this ever but i think Russia & China could well save our ass,.with this new BRICS,.alliance,.Their GDP has surpassed the G7,.and now they are almost 5O% of the world pop,.and i am seeing many more countries lining up to join,.like UAE,South America,Asia,Saudi Arabia being the biggest,.I cant see this NWO or CBDC happening simply because at 50% of the world (BRICS) wont be using it,they are currently looking at trying to work out a new monetary system,.even trading in their own Currency until they can work it out,.but it will take time,I think the US Dollar will remain the World Currency for at least the next 5/6 years but its being put on Notice,..I believe CBDC can only work if the whole world is on the same page,..My figures and that may be a bit out but you get what im saying,.oh boy can we go back to 2019 these last 3years has just been a freakn nightmare, wtf happened..!!!
when buying ANYTHING.... if it says made in china.... DO NOT BUY IT! it's landfill grade garbage any way and made by slaves.
you're welcome....
That applies to 100% of new American cars. Virtually ALL electronics are manufactured in China, Taiwan or other Asian country. The electronic control units for cars aren't manufactured in the USA and most cars won't run without one. Likewise the gearbox computers, the braking system controller; even the fucking radio. You'd have to buy an old carburettor car and hope that the mechanical parts are available for repairs.
If you can tinker you can make an ECU yourself with MegaSquirt. If I ever run out of clean used 90s vehicles to buy this is what I'll do. Everything post 96 has too many nannies to please the EPA.
you're right on that front... sometimes it's not avoidable at all..
This is a damn good point. GO LOCAL!!!
The NWO is shoving us around about pollution, yet they are the worst polluters.
Beautiful China:

And: https://cbsnews1.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/2013/01/14/41e9804d-a645-11e2-a3f0-029118418759/China_pollution_AP971430398958.jpg
Pollution won't stop. But the Climate Cabal will get trillions of dollars selling Carbon Credits.
And that my friends is the reason we know the NWO Globalist Green New Deal is a trojan horse, and always has been. All they did is shuffle the environmental deck and make China the major source of pollution. Even the Russia / Ukrainian War is about getting back control of Russian Energy, which they lost the minute Clinton approved Yelson choice for President, Putin. Gee, I wonder what was going on on the Resolute Desk that day. The Green New Deal has been nothing but a marketing campaign to steal American Tax payer money.
Use this as a reason to be against globalization. Tell the libs America First policies reduce pollution.
China, Africa, India and Philippines are the hugest destroyers of the environment and polluters of oceans. China is far and away the leader though.
The fuel oil ships running their routes helps to create new weather patterns & affects our respiratory health in unimaginable ways.

In the United Corporate States of America, manufacturing goes to those countries most willing to enslave 1/2 their population to make shit for greedy American business leaders to increase their profits to inflate their stock price and in turn improve the corporate leaders compensation “package”. Americans need to quit buying Chinese plastic shit or we become a shit nation.
We need to replace the 401K with good old fashion pensions. Forcing retirement compensation into the stock market empowers “investment” managers with too much money that they use to beat on corporations to increase profits and that leads to offshoring work. Employee owned companies offering pensions will focus attention back to good stewardship of companies to benefit America and American workers.
Put government employees on 401K’s and American private sector employees back on pensions and you will see shit change.
I was recently wondering whatever happened to Americans getting pensions from their employers, and I’m not referring to our worthless politicians who award themselves multiple pensions for running the country into the ground.
I'm getting one from my former employer, and my wife is getting one from hers.
You and your wife are very fortunate! I haven’t heard of any employers doing that around here. We’re expected to live off the government’s “generous” Social Security and our own 401ks.
You may have been mislead slightly. My retirement was from a job I worked back in the 80s for a short time, so that one pays me less than $100 a month. :)
My wife retired from the state education system. She didn't make a lot in pay, but there was a lot put away for retirement. When we finish with Dave Ramsey, we'll be okay.
Have to praise Apple for leading the charge:
Apple keeps everyone buying new iPhones and iPads and watches, which they improved the design with planet Earth in mind.
Honestly:
China didn’t put a gun to America s head to force us to do anything, they either corrupted our government or corrupted the WTO.
Someone has to be the jackass in the globalist games, apparently it’s the ordinary people.
"The fuel used in ships is waste oil, basically what is left over after the crude oil refining process. It is the same as asphalt and is so thick that when cold it can be walked upon."
Not true. I used to work in the bunker fuel industry, and then at a refinery that produced primarily asphalt. Bunker C, while nasty and thick with a sometimes ambient pour point, isn't nearly as nasty as asphalt. Theres also IFO-380 which is commonly used. Not quite as viscous a Bunker C.
Asphalt has to be kept about 180 deg F in the tank farm if I remember, but it's been many years.
Time to go back to sails and sweaty dudes rowing down below. Not…..that…… those uhhh linked chains on their ankles… uhh mean anything… yes just ignore those. “Row you scurvy dogs!!”
Bring back the tall sailing ships and cutters
I watched a documentary about those cargo ships a while back that claimed one of those drops all their cargo into the sea, and/or sinks every 3 days, due to bad weather and storms... So not worth it to have all this dollar store junk. I haven't been able to find the documentary recently, but I believe it was called Shipping Lanes, or something like that.
You didn't hear?
Dollar Store has changed its name.
It's now known as $5 Store
This article is more than 14 YEARS OLD
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2009/apr/09/shipping-pollution
When did that ever stop anyone from getting outraged over something?
The majority of people don't even bother reading the articles. They're able to form some very strong opinions just by reading the headline. 😒
i worked on oil transport ships in 1977. (OBOs)
instead of staying in port to clean out the tanks, the captains left asap and spewed the dirt into the ocean.
i have been outraged for a long time
What's your point? lol
How many more cargo ships are in the oceans today?
didn't really have a point...
trying to add more info to the discussion.
it's been going on for a long time; i doubt anything has improved...
for money (as always and everywhere) they are willing to destroy life
i am old now. and sad. i lost hope and gave up many years ago.
Until Q
I am not religious but i do pray for the future. And i thank you all for your efforts. TGA gets me out of bed now. WWG1WGA
There was talk awhile ago about shipping lines reviving Schooners and sailing ships for some Cargo routes to save on fuel costs.
Not sure it went anywhere though.
Go back to sailing ships. Create jobs and tough men.
They don't even need to switch to electric, just burn diesel instead of the leftover crud from making gasoline and theyd eliminate a ton of the emissions, but also a ton of profits.
The one side of this that concerns me is how to frame the argument to get the NIMBYs to understand the tradeoff between industrial production and pollution, as well as the costs involved for industry to produce their product in an environmentally friendly way. China undercuts everyone by having no regulations and just dumping toxic chemicals into the environment. We can do better, but there is a cost in doing business the right way.
Chinese use polution as population control. Kills oldest first.
I bought a real battle axe on Amazon that arrives tomorrow. I like products.
If only you could use wind to propel a boat.
Dunking on the left aside, wind power is returning to cargo shipping, and wide adoption would reduce energy usage in ocean shipping by something like 30% (or much higher if shipping much slower is acceptable, which generally it wouldn't be).
Never because it’s not a problem. Careful with the hypocrisy gambit. Sometimes they just agree with you and commit to even more crazy.
Now do a cruise ship.
I recall that they started using sails on some ships.
