Ukraine is not some country with people in robes and flip flops shooing antiquated weapons at you. The Russians Army are there as well as the Chechen Special Forces and the Spetsnaz who are very well trained and field modern weapons. In the case of #1 they'd simply liquidate the asset to ensure that person was not captured and exposed. So that would leave the second reason, which makes me wonder who would be important enough to risk rescuing.

Special Forces are arguably Big Green Army, though with SOCOM realignment, that command structure may have changed. Special Operations Forces are usually under Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and are different than Special Forces. AFSOC elements, particularly 160th SOAR are JSOC. Other JSOC elements are DEVGRU, SFOD-D, 75th RGT, AFSOC elements, ISA, and other unacknowledged elements.
So.... for the military tards such as myself, what is your take on this? It seems to me like whatever is under that factory, someone wants it/them out really bad and all attempts until now have failed. Ukraine is tunneled all over the place. I find it strange that there was not some escape route somewhere - unless of course the Russians have them blocked.

I have known about the tunnels that are quite old. Interesting who has hung out underground there over the centuries. My family was from the northeastern part of the country up on the Russian border - close to where the Kosacs were. My great aunt would break out in a cold sweat if you even mentioned the word. I don't think most people understand how ruthless that whole bunch can be. That area has bred some pretty hard core fighters.

I’ve been watching the messages coming out of Azovstal..... the best ones are coming from the commanders there..... dropping truth bombs about Who is supposed to be coming to rescue them.....
The messages get even more desperate since that ship was blocked from breaking the blockade out of Mariupol port which is where the last stand is going to happen in the Azovstal district and the plant there.....
But according to RF sources there are 3 pockets of these Ukrainians and Foreign forces in Mariupol, the one in Azovstal,which is a large industrial complex adjacent to the water, which is besieged on all sides now. Then the Kalmiuski district with the Illych Factory grounds is also surrounded the other area is also surrounded....
The Chechen fighters are not showing any mercy.... the cries of Allahu Akbar can be heard by the civilians taking shelter in the basements etc.... plus you can watch the videos coming from the RF forces and individuals....
As an aside I wonder when the families of those foreign fighters from USA etc will be notified of their deaths.... because there have been a few thousand killed so far and so far the Ukrainian government has only declared that it was ‘a handful’....!

I received a lot more info than that, but keep it to myself. I maintain a certain security level as well because of a son's position and my past. Saying that they are moving is not prohibited, as anybody that lives on/near base can see for themselves. In this case I know most of the assets, but not destination. The particular aircraft being deployed are kind of hard to miss, but are used for many kinds of missions, in conjunction with all branches, around the globe. The only thing unusual was the extreme short-notice. NONE of them are squawking.
And anyway...if we wanted more info / intel we'd just go to the BX / PX and speak with the wives. ;)

I'm an idiot about all this, but how would you know if a plane is up in the air with transponders off vs nothing up in the air?
Well in this case, if no planes left from central CONUS on the tracker apps this morning around 3am and u/Sabre2th has first hand knowledge that there was a plane leaving from there at that time, we know the transponder must have been off.
Pretty much have to know that a plane was in the air and see that its not pinging the tracking apps to know.
I get "launch" info fairly regular. There are (many) squadrons that RARELY squawk. I would bet that less than 20% of mil aircraft can be tracked on other than military systems.
I live next to an intl airport. Can confirm. I see military planes and helos fly over my house all the time, nothing on ADSBE.
I will add that I listen to the AM tower frequencies too. I can hear them talking to the tower. No squawk.
I have no idea but that doesn't seem right. I do work on Topsail island and Goldsboro NC. There are constantly jets at Goldsboro and many Osprey and other helicopter flight over the island. I've always assumed it's flight training/qualification flight hours and I doubt they would keep transponders off for such flights. However again I know pretty much nothing about the topic other than the amount is fuel I've seen pissed away at job sites.
You could hear and see it take off, or see it go from transponders on to tx off. You could track most of them with radar, if you had access, possibly satellite, if you were at the right time and place, etc.
I’ve been hearing lots of loud planes really low in Eastern North Carolina. Every time I hear one I look an ABS Exchange. No planes near me on it. This weekend one was so loud sounded like someone was dragging something heavy on the hwy in front of my house. It circled around at twice. I believe they are military training. We have four bases in Eastern NC. I’m seeing lots of military planes on the sight circling in different areas of the country. (Those planes don’t have transponders off if you can see on the map. I’m not an expert at tracking planes. Learned here a few months ago. My house is under a commercial plane flight path. I’ve seen planes for years when outside & especially at night.
I saw a pair of 47s headed east in NC over the weekend. Not much MIL traffic normally north of CLT.
I’m an hour east of Raleigh. 1-2 hours from all bases. In the 90s they flew over my property several days a week. I wish they would again. I love seeing them.
If you're anywhere near Goldsboro, you might have heard of a military plane losing a nuclear warhead there back in the 60s. It went so deep in the ground, the feds couldn't get to it, so that farmer's field is off limits to construction.
Most of what I hear in my part of Eastern NC and see on the tracker is a Coast Guard Blackhawk helicopter from the local base flying loops at night. I suppose the pilots have to get in their flight hours. Occasionally we get a really big plane overhead.
About three months ago several fighter planes flew right over my house. I was in the bathroom & saw them coming. By the time I got to front door they were gone. I’d go up in one in hot minute! It’s got to be an amazing ride.

I don't ha e a website at hand to point you to. But 99% of the time that you see the letters O and C in an acronym for the military, it will stand for Operations Commands. The prefix will tell you more about who is involved.
JSOC- Joint Special Operations Command AFSOC- Air Force Special Operations Command SFOD-D - Special Forces Operational Detachment/ Delta. Commonly referred to by those with limited knowledge as "Delta Force" SOCOM- Special Operations Command. OPSEC- Operation Security, think: "Loose lips sink ships"
