Employee Saves Child From Kidnapper, Instead Of Promotion Gets This Letter Saying He’s Fired
This guy from Portland, Oregon just lost his job at Home Depot for violating company policy, which doesn’t sound like such a big deal until you realize that the reason he broke the rules was because he was stopping a child from getting kidnapped!
Lowes just fired 68 year old woman who was beat up trying to stop theft.
TNX for the HEADS UP....WWWWWWHAT'S WRONG with companies???
America is now a 3rd world S*ITHOLE 🔥👿🔥
I agree. It's great to save a life as long as you do it at your own risk and not that of the employer.
I figure sometimes you gotta do what's right even if it costs you your job. I would have done the same thing, I think. Not sure I wasn't there. But it was brave, for sure.
"make an exception for the kidnapping hero."...YUGE YEP !!!!
Insurance companies get the blame for some of this also. Not convinced it is always them since it is a statement that is difficult to verify.
Lowe’s has the best security systems. Additionally, local LE have access to all footage and paperwork. They follow up and catch criminals and arrest them on a daily basis. The average store has about 5-20 thefts per day, from $5-$5,000. My daughter works at Lowe’s. They don’t f around when it comes to theft AND LEGAL REPERCUSSIONS. You do not know what you’re saying and thinking about Home Depot or Lowe’s. They are among the most efficient when it comes to theft, and that does not mean they have to trap a customer in the store to do so.
Agreed.
Not yet
Yep, well guess it’s ACE Hardware then!
https://nypost.com/2023/07/22/lowes-worker-gets-black-eye-loses-job-trying-to-stop-thieves/
My local ACE is based as fuck. Not cheap though, but super convenient. I loved their “you don’t need to wear a mask” sign.
When the insanity hit it was also the case that my local ACE was the only hardware place I could visit and be sane.
Ever since they always get my first stop before any of the other hardware stores have a chance.
Lowe’s didn’t seem to give much of a shit about a mask either, for the most part; at least later on.
The Lowe's where my Mom lives let her shop through the whole store without a mask. She was doing a renovation on a flip house so by the time she got to the register, she had a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise to ring up. But they said she would have to put on a mask for them to ring her up. She was so pissed off. She argued about it for a few minutes, then said, "Fine. I guess Home Depot gets my business from now on." My Mom has a heart condition--masks are not something she should be doing. She explained that at Lowe's but they didn't care. But the thing was, she had shopped there before without a mask and it wasn't an issue. So often, it's literally the one person you're dealing with (two in this case as she did ask to talk to the manager and he took the same stance) that makes it an issue. So, ideally, we follow through and talk to corporate to make sure they know what happened, but good luck with that. Getting to somebody is difficult. Customer service is a thing of the past at most places. You just have to try to shop locally owned as much as possible. Those people still appreciate their customers.
Same! And my ACE sells pew-pews, to boot!
I disagree with Lowe's firing some old woman over this. That said, I certainly get their policy on shoplifters. The woman got a black eye, but could have been way the hell worse. The robbers could have easily pulled a knife and stabbed her or used a gun and started shooting and have a rando customer get hit, etc. I get Lowe's not wanting to have that go down on their property and be held liable for it.
I get the woman was probably sick of shoplifters, we all are, but her not getting hurt is what's most important. I worked at Wal Mart in the shitty part of town and never confronted a shoplifter and never planned on it. Why risk one's own ass for Wal Mart or Lowes?
This is the problem. They know they will not be stopped.
Back in the 70's and before if you did this not only would the employee stop you the customers would do the same.
They knew not to even try back then.
I remember back even in the 90's seeing some dude running down the street with a 12 pack of beer being chased by like 7 burly bag boys from the local grocery store. Dude got tackled and dragged back to the store, then the cops came and hauled him off and charged him with shoplifting. I got the full story later from one of them whom I happened to know.
Too bad we can't see that today but I get stores not wanting the liability. Today Beer Theft Guy would probably sue, claim he was some "marginalized" group, the woke DA would prosecute the bag boys and not the thief, etc etc. Some things just made more sense back in the day.
Ahhhh the good old days.
Older friends of ours stopped by on Sunday night. They were saying these young kids need to live just one day back in the 50's and 60's to experience what they are missing. He said what will they talk about when they are older like we are sharing the crazy stories? He said they will be saying remember that drive by shooting or the mass killings. It is all they know.
Our friends are black, not that it matters, but older people realize how these children today are being deprived.
Boycotting them all, only buying what I absolutely need and I'll look elsewhere first.
The only exception at Lowe’s is “Run Hide Fight.”The training modules are pretty clear that you’re not even allowed to follow someone into the parking lot.
Unbelievable.
I only shop our local hardware stores as much as I can! It's time to just bring it ALL back to the Mom n Pop stores! I'll pay the extra! Done with all this bullshit! Sorry NOT sorry!
Heck ya. Local 'Mom & Pop' hardware stores, farm stores, garden stores, lumber yards that's where its at !
They are out there. People have to get out of their comfort cocoon and search out these places.
Not that it is irrelevant, BUT THIS HAPPENED 7 YEARS AGO.
Well, the story says they did reverser decision, probably because he got a bunch of pushback from people in the community. But yes, it sucks. Corporations suck.
i would help him sue them if i was the parent of the almost kidnapped kid
From HD’s perspective he did the wrong thing. He stopped a pervert and a predator. That’s not aligned with their corporate values.
They lost all values a few years back when the company changed hands. I've never seen such a difference in a company.
Before you could always get a nice old guy who knew his section and could give good help and advice.
Now it's teenagers on their phones who don't know anything and don't care. It won't make it through the coming recession for sure.
EXACTLY!!! I used to have a Home Depot "Angel"- i kid u not, wherever i was in the store and struggling, he would appear! Now they no hablo, and are lazy AF-I had to get my online order that was "ready"- biggie was too out of breath and no hablo was busy trying to communicate with a Vietnamese customer- I was told "you can go get all your items amd go" No shit they did not even check to see if i didnt take more stuff! Seattle burbs
Totally agree, these teens are addicted to their phones and don't pay attention to custormers at all and they are sooooo LAZY! They play hide and seek with customers, you have to chase then down in the store before they escape for their breaks. This mobile phone addiction proves how weak minded people have become. Employers have to ban the use of cell phones while at work on their dime and look after customers instead.
It sounds like Home Depot challenged his unemployment claim too. The letter from the Oregon Employment Department agrees that his behavior was "not a willful or wantonly negligent violation of the standards of behavior an employer had the right to expect of an employee", and that he was indeed fired for his actions.
Sounds exactly what NY State did after firing medical staff over refusing the experimental jab.
Home Depot also forced VAX, has diversity training, diversity hires, CRT training... among other woke company traits. I can't remember everything I read about them but it was enough for me to shop elsewhere.
Live local; gonna be important moving forward.
AMEN to that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find Locals or even ACE Hardware. Not as easy as big Boxes but it is the way America started and must be again.
We have a LOCAL HARDWARE store that most of the contractors use...a bit out of the the way...BUT EVERY EMPLOYEE KNOWS WHERE EVERYTHING IS...this aisle...that aisle, etc.....a pain to get to (lots of one-ways)...but from now on, THAT'S MY NEW GO-TO hardware PLACE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is happening in so many ways everywhere. It's encroaching the once safe neighborhoods - here's another way. "They" park in the Disabled parking spots in shopping centers, certainly not disabled, none of the required placards... when the truly disable cannot find their parking, and speak with the store manager, the managers say "there is nothing we can do". Only if the police came by and saw it, perhaps.
No one got injured? Except the elderly gentleman who had to roll his wheelchair in 107 degree weather about 20 minutes to the store front.
I would be letting air out of all 4 tires
I fail to see how anyone could even type that sentence - fired for ASSISTING THE POLICE IN PREVENTING A KIDNAPPING - I could not have ever typed that
COULDN'T HAVE said it better myself...KUDOS FOR SUSCINCTNESS!!!
Ahem, Lowes just fired a 63? Year old woman for grabbing a cart full of merchandise that was not paid for. Lowes is not your friend. These retarded shopping centers are broken by lawfare and they have chosen to let people steal their merchandise instead of prosecution. All by design. Our civilization is breaking down. The ignorant are stealing because it's easy. Why do you think Walmart closed in Illinois.
OF FUCKING COURSE ITS PORTLAND.
Lowes is liberal woke garbage HD all the way.
Lowes is woke AF
Thanks for the heads up. The larger they are, the harder they will fall.
This is from 2017.
Still important, but not recent.
a decade later, this story still comes to mind. https://www.theblaze.com/news/2012/12/04/autozone-employee-and-veteran-fired-for-using-his-gun-to-ward-off-armed-robber
Both places suck. Sometimes you shop at degenerate store because you can't afford to make a statement with every purchase. I mean financially.
Most all Home Depot/Lowes type small businesses no longer exist around me - where else can you go? I'm not a big shopper of that type merchandise since I'm not in that line of work, but my husband was when he was still here and I used to go with him. Loved the appliance/cabinet/bathroom fixture sections lol
Same deal here. Small businesses haven't survived.
News flash: Lowe’s has the same policy. Employees are are not allowed to follow customers (anyone in the store who is not an employee) or approach them or touch them regarding theft or violation of any law. “Run, Hide, Fight” is the only exception.
The reasons are almost innumerable, but legal repercussions are among the most critical. LE are free to use discretion and allow citizens in the community to help. But Lowe’s policies govern Lowe’s and their employees to protect both employees and customers.
I don’t think you’re gonna get much better with Lowes. All of these companies have extremely strict. Do not touch do not interfere policy. I’ve seen plenty of people get fired, whether or not it’s the right thing to do or not the company stances don’t get involved they don’t want to risk employees or other people getting hurt because of it which makes sense although it seems pretty shitty, they have a loss prevention department, or other people who are trained to handle that
Here’s the Lowe’s article. Best to use smaller Hardware Stores https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/07/elderly-lowes-worker-fired-after-getting-repeatedly-punched/
Recently a 68 yr old woman was fired from Lowe’s after working there for 13 yrs for stopping 3 people from stealing a cart full of merchandise ($2,100 worth), and was beat up by the thieves….
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/07/elderly-lowes-worker-fired-after-getting-repeatedly-punched/
Many reasons I do not shop at Home Despot. This is just one more reason. Go to Lowes! They treat veterans better.
I guess HD only cares to make money, not to reward employees for doing the right thing. I hope some wise business owner snaps him up as a new employee, because they see his value. My guess is that HD and Lowe’s make these policies to prevent employee injuries/assaults for which they might be held liable. It probably has to do with their insurance coverage. I wish someone high in the chain would explain why they took that position.
The dates on the letter are 2017. And the letter looks to be the determination to collect unemployment benefits which the letter says he can.
Unfortunately it is every national / international company that is part of the cabal. Walmart target home depot Lowes FedEx ups etc.
Nothing special coming from a top down Liberal organization. I bet HD was more pissed that a truthful eye was watching how they responded to this outrage instead of being pleased with a great act of caring.
Lowes sucks too
I don’t know if I agree with this post. The term “wantonly” could express a meaning of overly aggressiveness. As in, this employee didn’t just stop someone, they could have attacked the person. Which, I get. I would beat the crap out of a kidnapper, but as an employee that would make sense that they could have been over the top.
2017
They should whisper to the employee "well done" in private and explain, "we have to publicly say you did wrong", then reprimand the employee for show, and keep them in their job or even promote them.
Legal risk management gets satisfied, no one gets fired for being a decent human being.
Seattle metro area has McLendons and most of the Ace Hardware stores are franchises-- Still trying to figure out where to buy my hair/makeup cuz Ulta shit the bed :-(
