COMING SOON: Possible 'balancing' solution to the Daily Chat vs "Shower Thought" posts. Let's experiment with making Daily Chat a 'Weekly Chat'? Hopefully frogs can expect better, more high-quality engagement that will increase visibility of legitimate questions/research requests, etc. Cool?

Sure... and stop 3 day banning long time, well intended anons with solid reputations for submitting posts to the main board mods deem irrelevant
Simply ask them to MOVE IT to the proposed 'Weekly Chat' before deleting.
It's been waaaay too punitive and polarizing..
It's the long-time users who should know best how GAW is moderated. Being surprised or disappointed when these well-known policies are applied to them is illogical. What is your definition of 'policies'?
We don't issue 3-day bans for first offense/honest mistakes. We apply this policy in a sensibly selective way; if the frog is new and doesn't have a lot of usernotes, we'll do exactly what you said—we'll nicely ask them to move it to daily chat. But if they're long time anons with solid reputations but still somehow for some reason can't grok what they absolutely 100% know are the long-time rules or policy around here, we just give 1-day vacations, with this well-intentioned note:
It's unreal how many frogs can't seem to grok this basic policy. As it is, we still allow a LOT of text-based posts. We only apply this rule to the most eggregiously low-quality, low-effort posts.
Hopefully this new "Weekly Chat" idea will mitigate this.
I got a one day ban WITHOUT being "nicely" asked to move my post. Then got a bullshit sarcastic comeback when I challenged it....
My "egregiously low-quality, low effort posts" have comments from other members which tells me that my post are engaging someone...
Yeah shouldn't "egregiously low-quality, low effort posts" just fall off naturally by no one upvoting?
I guess it could potentially clog up "New", but that would only be if the person is making tons of said posts, in which case go ahead and do the ban.
But I don't have to moderate anything, so it's prob easy for me to criticize
As a user who posts original bullet point observations that create near universal consensus, I agree with you. Having them dismissed as 'shower thoughts' is insulting and counterproductive. Being banned for the same style I've employed since day one is frustrating. Recently, I had similiar posts get instant traction (20 upvotes in 10 minutes) only to have them deleted and a 3 day ban issued.

Can't you just post the topics in general chat. Is there a reason why you rather have them be there own post
lol look at the upvotes on the posts I provided
VISIBILITY
You're a long time user. Are you not aware of the cratering of traffic on this sub?
We don't measure success here by 'engagement,' we measure it by quality of discussion. I don't mean this in a mean way, but, if you're so senior and have been here for so long, why I have to point you to the sidebar, over and over, u/Oh_Well_ian? Let's get one thing straight:
GAW is an elite research board.
This means that our core audience are the hardcore researchers and diggers. And this is NEVER going to change. If you want to 'measure how well your posts are doing' by engagement (how much "chatter" your posts generate), then go hang with the 'engagement' rabble, go ahead, join Telegram and hang out in (the awesome, don't get me wrong) Pepe_Lives_Matter comment stream. Make friends! Talk your face off! Post your chickens, flat earth, and slog through thousands of 2016 memes! Go for it. But as long as I'm Lead Mod at GAW, hand on a Bible I fricking swear to you, we will never be the board of choice for the average IQ Q follower. Our standards are a little bit higher. And this comment? Your approach? It's disappointing that you can't enthusiastically get with this program, because I consider you extremely capable of elite posting and elite research.
Time to choose, dude. I see no reason for you to be here if after all this time you're still conflicted. Just let me know, mate. Travel agents are standing by.
NOTE: I am NOT insulting Pepe_Lives_Matter. He posts such epic content. But he's not running a high-end discussion board. WE are.
Personally to me its not the amount of post or traffic that is the value..it's the quality and connection that matters the most. Upvotes are not what I judge my thoughts on. The mods have been and will continue to be consistent in there mission focused approach. I encourage you to truly pray on these words. It might help you have less conflicts with the leadership here. they are very solid people and care very deeply about this place.
Also let's work to build up general chat. If we all work together we can make it into something truly special. I say this because I rarely see you post there. It's gonna take people engaging over there to really get it up and rolling
*crickets
Yes. Comments that belong in daily chat. The point here is this: the mods feel that MORE people deserve to see the engagement that reached a few frogs. It's not (just) that we don't want "shower thought" posts clogging up /NEW, it's that we want MORE frogs to see the engagement that your thinking resonated with.
If you could please choose to see it that way, that would be great. But, you don't. And this is why the mods just mod the way they do. We take your feedback, we really do integrate it, but, if you don't get that we're trying to AMPLIFY your thinking, then, fine, we just default back to doing what we know works. We're focused on being as consistent as possible, and we're going to continue to go from there.
"Low quality and low effort" is entirely subjective. Just because a post doesn't appeal to a mod doesn't mean that others won't be interested in it.
The attitude towards posts and bans here is just all over the place. Mods complain that people don't post enough, but then complain that there are too many "low effort and low quality" posts. It just feels like you view people here as sources of free labor to churn out material to boost GAWs rankings.
And it's a bit nutty to constantly ban people for minor infractions, or because they believe differently than you and then complain that there aren't enough people making posts or interacting in the comments. If you want more activity on the forum, maybe lay off banning people for a bit.
I completely understand the need for mods. No one wants to have to wade through dozens of posts about cures for Erectile Dysfunction. But perhaps the mods should do some self-reflection and be more mindful if they're banning someone for the good of the forum or if it's because they personally disagree with the post.
No. It isn't. Volunteer to be a mod here. You'll start on the deport queue. And in 6 months, you'll basically be transformed into CatsFive, and you will also find yourself banishing LOW EFFORT, LOW QUALITY, LOW INFO posts to the land of wind and ghosts, like we do.
This thread is about changes to Daily Chat, not about moderating, by the way.
Yes. It is. But keep ignoring the feedback you're getting. And continue to watch the forum die.
Says the account who has contributed absolutely nothing to this forum. Kek
Fine. Great. Let it die. YOU HAVE NO POSTS. If you decide to leave, WHO WOULD NOTICE?
EDIT: Banned this user for this faggotry, and got this diamond gem in reply:
And, boom, this is why we mod GAW the way we do. Establish a post history. Because the levels of respect you receive from the mod team is directly proportionate to what you are willing to post, and then, by your comments, how you are willing to defend it.
As an Irish Frog who has just come off a 24 hour GAW ban for a most egregious low-quality, low-effort shower thought - I agree a slap up the noggin is warranted. I was guilty of a low effort post, but I need to be honest. I was not aware that was the purpose of Daily/Weekly Chat. Now I do. If I could offer a suggestion is that you say please move said post into Daily/Weekly Chat in the Notice of Low Effort. If said frog fails to do so then off to jail for 24 hrs. With that said all I had to do was go read the rules, posted I read the rules and Mods said they would give me a get out of jail free card. I frogged up and took the punishment - poured a cocktail and lit a cigar and enjoyed some digital warrior R&R.
Actually, it was your post (I gave you that 1-day reminder; we've had lots of stickies and other comms about this policy, etc) that got the mods thinking. Mods don't like giving vacations out, believe it or not. We pay for those flights out of our own pocket.
Wow, learning so much. Have some dings in the armor over the years with low effort posts. Thanks for all you do keep this place “the best place on the interweb!” Can’t wait till the award ceremony that passes out Digital Warrior Medals - be amazing to see our guys get some! ☘️
I can see your thinking here, Cats, reading through this thread. You efforts are appreciated. But, at the risk of seeming to be either overly pedantic (pretty easy with me) or just a dumbass, can I get a confirmation that the
"Daily Chat" you are referring to is in fact General Chat, which BB posts each day. I mean, I thought that would be bloody obvious, but I only see consistent reference to a "Daily Chat" (using capitals, which is the standard way of indicating an actual proper noun, aka NAME) in this thread and the previous one.
If you can put this to bed for me finally, I'll leave it and let the mayhem continue as is.
The number of "shower thoughts" I've been seeing on here lately has been a bit ridiculous.
Most of the time they're great conversation starters. But they just don't belong as their own posts. They belong in Daily Chat. The mods here are hoping that this change will get these shower thought conversation starters the attention they deserve.
And they make those of us with just regular showers that don't ever give any inspiration feel better.
True!
I used to pride myself in being able to build the toy in the cereal box without reading the directions. I know my basic rights and hate to read the instructions to this day. But I’m wrong. I get that too. I’ve been that frog many times.
I agree with you....
I would also encourage everyone that feels they don't get engagement on their comments in daily chat, to find and engage in someone else comment there. Even if it's just to ask questions about what they are saying, letting the person know you read there comments, or sharing your opinion on what they said...ect(even if it's a comment you wouldnt normally engagr with). I find many people put down the engagement of daily chat when it's their own comments, yet at the same time don't take the time to engage other people's thoughts. We are a team after all. Love you all. Just my 2 cents. God bless
Big frog energy on the encouraging others to engage Fren!
God bless you fren. Blessed to be here with you. Together through Christ we have endless potential. Much love
Once a month, I propose a "Taking a Dump Chat."
It would combine the best aspects of Shower Thoughts, except these thoughts must occur on the toilet, and it would be presented in the style of Daily/Weekly Chat.
Wait just a second here, some of my best posts have been made while taking a dump!
I'm not going to constrain myself to once a month for that!
💩🐸
u/#incovfefeable
It works even better if you take a dump with your shirt off.
Some of my best dumps have happened whilst on toilets, not gonna lie...
Interesting theory. I might try that sometime.
You post from the toilet? toilet paper spin and tear sounds That is just ridiculous.
No, did I actually say that out loud? I meant I was (car-ploosh, water kicks on, toilet flushing sound) just brushing my teeth. Be right out! Flips fan switch on and quickly shuts door.
😂
KEKKKKK
I prefer Daily Chat because the news can move so fast that a Weekly Chat might end up with a lot of old news.
The mods here really appreciate the frogs that have embraced daily chat. We're hoping that the upcoming change here makes Daily Chat much more valuable for our Community.
Would be cool if they could implement a way to sort posts by day, or made a unique tab, "Hot", "New", "Rising", "Top", and a "Weekly" one that has each days Daily thread and the current stickied daily one can still be a thing. Just a way for them to be more readily accessible, perhaps
We're a WIN, and nobody every, EVER asks us for features we'd like to see. It's like we live on a dead planet 2 light years from Jupiter
Hi there, I’ve been around a while I’m a professional commentator but have only created threads once in a while. Maybe 3 in all these years since Reddit dumped us. I’ve been wishing for more threads and more engagement here lately.
My method is to always read the forum from the NEW catagory and some days I get through everything in just 20 minutes. It used to take an hour. I visit about 5 times a day. So I’ve been on X on our slow days.
I’d like more threads I don’t mind the occasional odd topic and sometimes the shower thoughts are pretty good. I suppose I should start posting more threads myself but they’d probably be unacceptable so I don’t out of fear of being off topic.
Sorry I have no suggestions for you just thought knowing your users may provide food for thought.
This is great feedback. Thank you for sharing. We mods agree, and don't get us wrong. We still allow TONS of borderline or outright "shower thought" posts (we're suckers for letting the posts survive if they're high effort and high quality). But we also notice that Daily Chat is kind of a ghost town and it's not doing what we really want. That's all this thread is really about. It's not about imposing a lot of fake, artificial rules.
Let's see how this experiment goes. I personally think we should have realized this and done this a long time ago.
Perhaps start referring to it as the General Chat instead of the Daily Chat, or change the name to Daily Chat instead of the current General Chat?
Because even though its a daily chat thread, the actual proper noun (name) is currently General Chat (which makes me wonder just how many pedes recognize what you are talking about. I guess its a no brainer, but why do you insist on calling it Daily Chat with capital letters when its actually General Chat, formally?
Sorry. Linguistics and language anon here.
That's good. It can be whatever as long as it has the date. How about:
GENERAL CHAT - Week 48
-or-
#48 - Weekly Chat
Something like that?
Uh, ok. Now you are rocking. So, when you say "Daily Chat" you really mean the General Chat, right? Anyone who frequents and uses General Chat knows it as General Chat (and not Daily Chat), so if you want to establish a Weekly thread for general chat content, I would avoid using the phrase "General Chat" because it is already owned by the daily version.
Unless you wish to convert the daily version into a weekly version. Then WEEKLY GENERAL CHAT - Week #48 would be fine.
If, however, the intent is to have both a daily general discussion thread AND a weekly one, I would suggest just keeping the current General Chat moniker as is:
General Chat for Sat, Dec 2
You could add a 'daily' to it for extra clarity, if deemed useful:
Daily General Chat for Sat, Dec 2
and create a separate weekly thread with a VERY different name. Having a different moniker altogether would help reduce any confusion between the two.
WEEKLY SHOWER THOUGHTS - Week 48
WEEKLY Off-Topic Discussions - Week 48
etc.
Then add a brief but clear descriptor behind the formal moniker, so that a random view of the title leads the reader to recognize the PURPOSE of the thread
WEEKLY Off-Topic Discussions - Week 48: Post your ideas, musings, shower thoughts and off-topic discussions here!
I’m in the same boat, had one get deleted so I was hesitant to post more. I also don’t post that much, more often reply
You are the best C5! Thanks for all you do!
we fear change.
That fear will change eventually
All should be encouraged to read. This will be the best thread of the week!
I would love to see a random conspiracy each week and what anons think. I did a post about sandy hook opinions last week and a lot of great info and opinions in the thread. It would be cool to pick one and crowdsource opinions and links (Vegas shooting, parkland, Lincoln assassination, etc.) focused on real events that may or may not be false flags, not so much esoteric like aliens and stuff
Actually, we're going to have a few OFF-TOPIC MEGATHREAD posts coming up. Watch.
Wait..we really getting rid of the best part of GAW?
I am disappointed. Who else is disapppointed???
I see you. 😅
Squeaky clean shower thots - oh wait, did I just post a NSFW ism..?
I was the one saying a long time ago dot win needed a gonewild aalternative, with a vetting to insure all content is 100% home made OC, no human trafficking victims, and all verified 19 years and older so no risk of minors. The vetting system being comprehensive enough would drive traffic and bleed reddit dead
Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy is all I can think about now.
Spitballing here fren but what about something like this:
This way the daily chat thread can thrive as is, the lower tier stuff gets covered by the Mon & Wed shower thread, and the weekends are typically slow except for Fridays of course, but there's a sticky post for the weekend regarding sorta both of the threads plus maybe off topic foolery.
Whatever you guys decide is good enough for this frog! 🐸 Thank Q for all that you fine folks do 'round here.
We bounced around some flavour of each of these ideas, but, don't have enough engagement to do them all at once.
Word. Yeah, I can see that being a hindrance. Perhaps down the road.
Actually, we'd really love it if the Weekly Chat became exactly this. Anything goes!
Breathe, frog. It's an experiment, two/three weeks max, let's see how people like it
I like the idea of an off topic thread because if things are supposed to be strictly and directly related to Q, then a lot of good info won't survive. I know I have learned a ton of stuff from this board that is not directly Q related and I know a lot of other anons have too. A lot of us tend to ask advice from our frens here, rather than trust msm sources, so I really do like the idea of one off topic thread. But I suppose that's what the Gen chat thread is for too.
Double hahaha x 2

Chats are gay
No
Tough call.
Although I skim and read most every topic and a good deal of their comments, General Chat is my highest engagement area here. I don't typically comment in stand alone threads as more often than not someone else has said what I would have said, and often better. I appreciate that about these boards.
I've also been engaged with internet forums dating back to Usenet and BBSes, and I've had a lot of experience with Daily and Weekly general threads....
I understand Daily is a bit of a "ghost town" with the usual suspects making up the majority of the conversation. In my experience, that's universally the nature of these threads. In my experience, broadening the scope to a weekly often doesn't improve upon that - the person who is unwilling or unable to engage in a Daily thread, is often less likely to approach a Weekly, as they assume it will be cluttered and unorganized. At least if that person is me. 😉
At least with the Daily, it's always fresh in 24 hours. You're not bouncing up and down checking comments from 6 days ago for new information. When comments gain momentum, they do so in a 24 hour period and can get surprisingly flushed out.
Granted, GAW is relatively low traffic, so I don't suspect a Weekly will get as unwieldy as a popular reddit sub's, so it'll probably work OK. And due to it's 24 hour nature, depending when one posts, a legitimately interesting comment in Daily could see no interaction at all. Personally, with my schedule and time zone, I'm almost never around to get an "early" post into DC if I needed something with eyes on it.
So, TLDR, I guess with the mods stance and how they want to deal with "Shower Thoughts" in Main, a Weekly isn't such a bad idea. I predict it will effect the "spirit" of the Daily, but hopefully we'll adapt and be better for it. Frogs adapt, and our mods are pretty good.
