They've started with the bright white highway lights here. It's so stupid, because if its raining it's literally impossible to tell the difference between road markings and light glare.
There's an area where the bulbs they bought have too much blue light and it feels like driving through a grow op.
I tinted my windshield. Best thing I could have done! Yes, it's illegal, but the cops don't seem to care about 30% of the cars driving around with their high beams on, so they shouldn't mind little old me with my tinted windshield.
Our old used Grand Marquis had heavily tinted windows, not the windshield, though. Probably a gangsta car in a previous life. Loved them! If I ever got pulled over for it, I was going to plead sun sensitivity and could show them skin to prove it!
Unbelievable! How could they even tell with all the leds on the road?
The problem with LED headlights is that they are incompatible with dark adapted human eyesight – particularly for older drivers – they are too bright, too blue, too 'concentrated' and blinding over too long a distance.
Funny thing is they sell leds to replace regular headlights,
Yes, it is possible to replace normal headlights with LED headlights in a car. LED headlights have become a popular choice for car owners due to their energy efficiency and improved visibility on the road
and yet,
aftermarket LED headlamps are illegal. OEM-installed LED headlights are indeed legal, but each headlamp is only legal for use in the vehicle to which it was designated (and tested and certified).
Oh, to have my 83 Toyota 4x4 back, I’m actually building a time machine to go back in time and kick my own ass for selling it. I may have to take some friends as I was at Ft. Bragg at the time and I would kick my ass unfortunately. Maybe I’ll settle for a polite conversation with myself.
Oh Lord. Fren we are in the same boat.. my baby truck 4x4 was an 82 Toyota.... had it since it came off the line. For 32 years it took care of me. When so much was wrong that it had sat for 2 years a collector wanted it, to restore, I decided to let him. That was one of the most fucked up mistakes I ever made. My regret is deep. It feels like a family member is lost. It's first license plate number is often my password. Sad, sad me
keep an eye out for a 98 mazda b3000/ford ranger (same thing, slightly different trim). I've got the rwd automatic model, and it's murder on gas, but fuck is it durable and forgiving...
I have 40 very expensive 100w (15-20w equivalent) LED fixtures as we have can lights everywhere. All have large heatsinks. I've been using them since 2011. I've lost only two, so far. But each one cost me about $20 a light 14 years ago.
...i literally leave my lights on all the time, and they last longer than that. (granted, they get dimmer and dimmer over time)
You might wanna get an electrician to look at the wiring in your house, and/or have a conversation with your electric company, my best guess is you've got power fluctuation issues.
I heard Trump mention “….why don’t we have incandescent bulbs anymore? We should look into that…” as he was walking away from a press conference just a couple weeks after his inauguration. My ears pricked up and my heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t believe it. My stash ran out about 2 yrs ago and I was just thinking maybe he would do something about the bulbs cause he grew up like us with regular, good old fashioned BRIGHT light bulbs!
Yeah dude I'm not backing you on this one. LEDs are awesome technology and they don't bother me one bit.
If they bother you? That sucks, and you should be 100% free to pursue alternatives.
I prefer LEDs. They last longer and use less energy. Great because I grow lots of houseplants and so the efficiency really makes a big difference on my bill.
But guess what? I'm pro-freedom. I don't like the government coming in and saying, "No you CAN'T choose what bulbs you want to use!"
LED bulbs can disrupt the natural circadian rhythm and melatonin production, leading to poor sleep quality and associated health issues such as anxiety, stress, fatigue, and migraines. Additionally, some LED bulbs can flicker at imperceptible rates, which can cause visual fatigue and headaches.
it could be a bluelight issue. i'd advise if it's a concern to get bulbs with a yellow tinge to them, or use yellow paper/lighting gel to filter the blue out.
LED's have a flash of 60 frames per second relating to 60 hertz in our electricity. Some people are bothered by it. And i suspect it bothers people without them realizing it.
Incandescent bulbs are like a flame. Natural and warm in color.
I have begged as well to EPA on X.
(California has banned resins I use to make jewelry. The can cause cancer. No dip. I can decide for myself. I mask and glove up)
Yet, they don't ban chemicals in food or stop chemtrails. LED lights are horrible for depression. I had stocked up on incandescent but out for last year. The difference in my depression is drastic. Kills energy. Causes lots of mental issues. Many many doctors spoke out in protest when California started replacing all street lights with LED's but they were censored
I'm using 40w appliance bulbs in all my fixtures for clear bulb lighting. 🫣 No local store carries anything higher; and I forget to search/order online.
I want this bit of normalcy back. [Along with a drop in gasoline prices and groceries...].
I found 75w bulbs at auto zone. And they're frosted! I guess being "rough service" makes them exempt. Kind of dim though. Their 826 lumens is closer to a standard 60w.
Good to know, and thanks for sharing. I like the absolute clear variety...this never mattered until I installed clear glass shades on with dining lights 15+ years ago. I've gotten so used to 40w, I'd probably go blind with 60w. 😎
Our house is down to 40w appliance bulbs in all lamps and fixtures. Bought more lamps to spread around. Had to go online to buy 4w blue, pink and white nightlights.
1000bulbs.com has actual 116 watt traffic signal bulbs (since they are exempt from the ban) and they are designed to last 8000 hours instead of 1000. Been using those in fixtures that can handle them, love them so much.
At one time, I might have done that, I loved dimmers. Alas, I'm scared of them now. We had a couple go bad and blew two circuits in the house. Didn't just trip the breakers, actually fried the circuits! I have a lot of stuff running on heavy duty extension cords from outlets that still work. I try not to run too many of them at the same time. :(
My Econ 415 professor in a discussion re: repeat business [way back when]: " Do you think Goodyear or Michelin can't manufacture tires that last a lifetime? But where's the money in that(?)...". 😏
I'm probably going to curse myself by saying this, but my refrigerator has been running for 30 years and not 1 service call. Sometimes it doesn't self defrost and I have to take a hairdryer to the freezer coils, but that's it!
Thank you for that, I'll check my local AZ next time I go up to the grocery store.
As a side note, not sure why they're labeled 75w, that should be 1100 lumens. If they are 826, you're right, they're closer to 60w which should be 825 lumens.
So when appliances have a resistance, such as LED bulb and phone and computer charges, they put back high frequency voltage transients back into your electrical system. This is known as dirty electricity and is problematic for your health. Can also happen near electrical relay stations.
There was a book about it by Samuel Milham and he studied Quinta middle school in California and a lot of the kids and teachers were getting cancer. Eventually traced it back to dirty electricity from a sub station. There are meters which measure this. The less LEDs and unnecessary things you leave plugged in at night, the better.
Early microcomputers ---- I could plug in an electric drill next to a computer ---- gun the drill a couple of times --- crash the computer from the line noise.
Then we are doomed, since every electrical appliance is either a resistance or reactance element. I can see where it might be problematic for the health of my electrical appliances, but not for my personal health. I have a lot of doubts that EM signals cause cancer. The fear reminds me of the concern over witchcraft.
EMF opens the voltage gated calcium channels in your cells. Not good for you but not all people exhibit symptoms. Probably long term it does add up. Not all are sensitive. Just like some kids can get a vaccine and be fine, people can be exposed to EMFs and function fairly well. Could they perhaps be in a better mood and sleep better without them? Probably.
like kids that are allergic to peanuts. some are too sensitive and need to sit at a safe table. I know what you mean. Hell theres people that get cancer from the sun. And some are straight up allergic.
Very high. Ultraviolet light. 800 terahertz to 30 petahertz. But that has less to do with "frequency" than it does with the energy of single photons, which can cause chemical effects in skin cells. It's why we have melatonin in our skin. And caps with bills.
Can’t wait for their return. Believe Trump already has something cooking on this. If you’re interested, Dr. Jack Kruse talks about the LEDs and all the blue light and how utterly damaging it is. He showed how it destroyed or ate through his red filters he puts over his bulbs, with little white dots right in line with the LEDs. I remember being excited for bulbs that wouldn’t need changed as often but in practice they don’t seem to last any longer and are just more money.
why would you use red filters? wouldn't yellow be closer to natural light?
also, what's he using for filters? you can pick up lighting gel plastic for little of nothing on amazon. ( i wanted to make IR lenses for the halibut at one point)
mmm. did a little research and thinking. If you can get ahold of yellow glass to cover the bulbs, it'll filter out a lot more of the blue light, while letting the green and red through, and since glass is a lot more durable, it'll last longer.
beyond that... try to focus on getting "warm white" or amber LED bulbs if you can't find anything else.
sidenote: I sent a suggestion to Corning to start developing a specialized glass for this purpose. doubt they'll give it a second glass, but it's worth a shot.
on reddit there's a community "buyitforlife", we could have more consumer groups or discussions about products that are "built to last". More people buying these kinds of items might lead to more of them being made (although it can be bad for business if companies put out good products which prevents customers from having to continue to buy from them as much)
They emit light with the same wavelengths as daylight. Otherwise, we couldn't see them. Not for those who can't stand blue skies. I'm fine with them. Having lots of cheap light is better than the alternative.
I'm familiar with the data. I used to be an optical engineer working with human vision. The color sensitivity of the eye is closely matched to the spectral distribution of sunlight. LEDs are a bit peaky, but they fall within that spectrum, and the eye does not care about that. And the "frequencies" of visible light are far beyond the biological functioning of the nerve cells of the brain (400 to 790 trillion cycles/second). Altogether, our brain waves range from 0.2 to 100 cycles/second.
Getting "100 watts" of visible light from a bulb that draws only 15 watts is good news in my department.
Ya know, I was wrong. I held this little nugget of wisdom stored in my brain from somewhere in my past. But you are right. I looked it up and indeed, the LED lights and brain frequencies are not in the same range.
My bad. I posted a shit post but not intentionally.
They definitely saves a ton on electric for me in a two story house. I prefer the amber color ones to the white ones. I got a really nice desk lamp from my niece for Christmas it has adjustable warmth and brightness levels and a timer so I can set it to turn off. Also no heat from it, wouldn't be able to have that with regular bulbs, thank you for posting this it puts my mind at ease. I don't mind regular bulbs but the led have been a blessing for me.
Lighting has so much to do with our moods, and these damn lights are depressing, the brain processes the lack of shadows as 2 dimensional. I used to work in residential mental health, checking on people who were living independently but needed follow up and support. We would get calls from folks having a hard time, even though they were managing themselves well, occasionally we would get calls from someone going through a crisis, usually their voices were really bothering them, or they had lots of fear. One of the first things I did when going to their apartments, was check the lighting, and making it warmer, turning off the damn flourescent lights in their kitchens, illuminate some dark corner, talk with them as I did this. It helped change the ambience of the room, thus effecting them psychologically. Some of these new bulbs give me the mood like I am watching Eraser Head, which I could never finish because it was visually disturbing, due to lighting. A few years ago I was searching the internet for a black market where I could buy incandescent bulbs.
My ex used to work for Phillips back in the early 80’s. At that time Phillips was starting to sell every kind of light bulbs used commercially . They specialized the bulbs into categories: specific ones for jewelry stores which made everything have a much shinier appearance, same for grocery stores. Special ones for the produce dept. They made apples appear redder, green produce looked greener and shinier, same with special lights for the meat dept. Meat looked redder and brighter. But the lighting was so subliminal you couldn’t tell the difference from one area to another. They sold street lights to cities that were guaranteed for 5-7 yrs., but they gave off an amber hue and were $300 each. They weren’t very bright and they didn’t light a very large area so cities put in more street lights, more cost to the city for more light poles but 7 years before having to replace the lights. If they didn’t last at least 5 yrs they were replaced for free. Really opened my eyes to how deceptive stores and companies could be. They also sold lights that dimmed or got brighter for offices so people on gloomy, rainy days wouldn’t feel less productive and in summer the dimmer lights would keep people from wanting to be out in the sunshine! My ex had a month of special “training” to emphasize all the advantages to the customers that these “special” lighting features would be “a little more expensive but sales would make up the difference”!
Check at estate sales in your area where items from the entire house are sold off.
I have been able to stock up on incandescent bulbs - including higher watts - for very little money.
I'm with you on your request. I think what will happen is the reconstitution of an incandescent industry here in America. I don't know where the incandescent bulbs were formerly produced, but we need those factories, wherever they were, to reopen, or to be built! This would be great investment opportunity for you guys! Who doesn't hate those LED bulbs. Makes me feel like I'm half stoned by that bluer ugly harsh light.
Plus if they break, the dust is toxic. I hate the light they produce. One of my kitchen chandeliers has three of the five bulbs replaced with LEDs and I can’t stand to have that light on. If the wife has it on when I come upstairs it immediately gets turned off
I don't really see any benefit to incandescents but don't support banning them
you should definitely be allowed to use 5x as much energy for 5x less lifespan, even if you just like the "look"
(that's fair to do, not everything has to be "efficient"... in fact that's the point is sometimes we do other things "efficiently" to be able to do a few things "inefficiently")
(for example there is a lot of old computer hardware that still "just works" but uses a lot more energy than new hardware, but it takes enormous amounts of energy to manufacture new hardware than to just run some old stuff until it dies, you should absolutely be allowed to keep using old hardware)
I am willing to consider this and did see some people making points like this, which I was going to add to my comment above but... I admit I remain pretty skeptical.
One of the main reasons is because little LEDs are everywhere... like, I'm pretty sure those power buttons on computers or video game consoles from many decades ago were mini LEDs. The bigger LED bulbs I thought were just supposed to be like a collection of those such little bulbs. The tech has been here for a while, just not used in the same way.
I could see them however botching LED bulbs, much like EVs are botched today with spyware and other "undesirable features". Maybe the specific LED bulbs today contain spyware like some comments suggested, or are poorly designed in ways that hurt us.
My position is: I do think LED tech is probably viable in some form, as well as EVs. EVs have been around a century, they were just a "suppressed" technology for many years by the oil industry. Now we've got Elon coming in acting like a "conservative" to get "conservatives" interested in these botched Tesla EVs with the spyware and other constraints.
And I acknowledge there may be problems with lithium batteries and things like that but... again, it's really simple tech that's been around a long time, it's just any kind of battery that causes a motor to run with electricity.
Not complicated - a better more obvious use of EVs is ebikes - combining the efficiency of the bicycle design (one of the "best" inventions ever) with the automation of electricity and motors (and reducing the perhaps unsustainable lithium usage).
But anyway I will have to look in to the issue of LEDs more and will have to report back; I am very much open to changing my opinion.
But then also we might have to discuss downsides of incandescents, and are we really just straight up advocating for people to use fire or sunlight only as lighting at that point!? (There are some benefits from trying to live with the natural light of the sun only anyway which artificial bulbs have enabled people to get away from, a little too much)
Roll back auto safety & emission standards back to 1985.
Bring back the (actual) small pickups!
And get rid of LED Headlights - they are blinding and unsafe!
I logged on just to agree with you. I can't drive at night with those things.
Yes the lights on the ford f250 should be outlawed.
Yeah, every time one approaches you, it’s a potential episode of “Close Encounters of the Dead Kind.”
They've started with the bright white highway lights here. It's so stupid, because if its raining it's literally impossible to tell the difference between road markings and light glare.
There's an area where the bulbs they bought have too much blue light and it feels like driving through a grow op.
I remember way back when they'd stop you for driving with your brights on!
I have some yellow night driving glasses. Now they just turn blinding headlights into blinding parking lights.
I tinted my windshield. Best thing I could have done! Yes, it's illegal, but the cops don't seem to care about 30% of the cars driving around with their high beams on, so they shouldn't mind little old me with my tinted windshield.

Overkill. This is much simpler and way cheaper: https://youtube.com/shorts/P6TcTRnTXWU
Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no
I know someone that got stopped for high beams on in NH within the last year
Unbelievable! How could they even tell with all the leds on the road?
Funny thing is they sell leds to replace regular headlights,
and yet,
Make it make sense! 🤪
It was an old car
Well, that does make sense. I'd still bet his high beams aren't as bright as led regular beams, though.
100% you get some that feels like a welding flash..
Oh, to have my 83 Toyota 4x4 back, I’m actually building a time machine to go back in time and kick my own ass for selling it. I may have to take some friends as I was at Ft. Bragg at the time and I would kick my ass unfortunately. Maybe I’ll settle for a polite conversation with myself.

i stocked up yeara ago to use for my standing lights and lamps. Nothing beats an incadescent to read by.
all LED lights are fraud. advertise 22 years and barely get 12 months before they flicker and die. needs a class action lawsuit for fraud.
My whole house is led...haven't changed a bulb in four years
I think they have some built in obsolescence now.
Everything is built that way now!
I have 40 very expensive 100w (15-20w equivalent) LED fixtures as we have can lights everywhere. All have large heatsinks. I've been using them since 2011. I've lost only two, so far. But each one cost me about $20 a light 14 years ago.
no. barely 12 months. all
And, let me guess, you are blind......
No symptoms of anything...just cheaper and brighter...my car is led too
He said ALL!!
Me too
I've tried multiple brands and they all last me about a year.
Made in China
All junk.
I use eco smart brand guaranteed for five years..60 watt
Don't buy inferior quality products. High quality products do last.

I have largely fixed those due to other lifestyle issues unrelated to LEDS.
Doesn't bother me. If it does for you? My sympathies.
it could be a bluelight issue. i'd advise if it's a concern to get bulbs with a yellow tinge to them, or use yellow paper/lighting gel to filter the blue out.
Just changed my garage lighting to all LED. I can actually see now!! So much brighter and cheaper too.

Thanks for the tip. Most of my sockets are rated 65-100, but I have a few that can handle 150.
Wow, 8,000 hours?! Why couldn't the bulbs they used to sell us last that long? Never mind, I know!
In theory you could run them in whatever socket they'll fit and run a dimmer to lessen the output to what the socket is rated at.
That's one of the aspects of incandescent bulbs that is versatile.
At one time, I might have done that, I loved dimmers. Alas, I'm scared of them now. We had a couple go bad and blew two circuits in the house. Ties to the appliance industry...absolutely true. 😐 My mom's washer/dryer set lasted 20+ years. Lucky to get 5-6 years now.

Have you heard about the Centennial Light? the Longest burning Light Bulb in history. Now in its 120th year of illumination. ^^
News to me. Thanks for the info.

I was just saying this same thing this morning...
I love my LED lights, I'm never going back to incandescent. (NOT sarcasm)
LED put dirty electricity into your home.
Electricity is not describable as "dirty." What do you mean?
s/n ratio ----- look at 120v AC on a scope ---- all kinds of clipping noise..
An AM radio will pick up some of it.
AM radio starts at a low band frequency of 100 kilohertz, far above brainwave frequencies.
https://www.moonsindustries.com/article/what-is-led-drivers-output-ripple-and-noise
So when appliances have a resistance, such as LED bulb and phone and computer charges, they put back high frequency voltage transients back into your electrical system. This is known as dirty electricity and is problematic for your health. Can also happen near electrical relay stations.

Interesting. I guess variable speed motors produce dirty electricity and magnetic radiation too.
Then we are doomed, since every electrical appliance is either a resistance or reactance element. I can see where it might be problematic for the health of my electrical appliances, but not for my personal health. I have a lot of doubts that EM signals cause cancer. And it means nothing to me. Frequencies are far higher than can register biologically. Kind of like infrared light.
sunburn ----- what frequency is that?
Very high. Ultraviolet light. 800 terahertz to 30 petahertz. But that has less to do with "frequency" than it does with the energy of single photons, which can cause chemical effects in skin cells. It's why we have melatonin in our skin. And caps with bills.
I do like the fact they don’t burn out as fast and are low wattage but the lights just not the same. I prefer candlelight!
i prefer the sunlight or moonlight.
i prefer Bud Lite... no Wait!!!! :-(
Bud lite is for people that are closet trannys
Bud light is troop juice!
There are 3000K, 2700K, and even 2500K led bulbs

mmm. did a little research and thinking.
Interesting, ty for sharing. You may appreciate this book “Let There Be Light.” https://archive.org/details/let-there-be-light
glad i could help, i'll take a look at that book, thank you =)
You can buy online right now.
25-40 watt bulbs don’t cut it.
He's already done it.

Supply chain,might take awhile.
Damm he’s moving at Light Speed! I just posted this a cuppl hours ago!
Awesome News! Ty
How did we miss this? It's major.
It was posted here when it happened, but we have had to many other big wins.....
I think it made it into one of the win summaries.
need 100w for baby chickens
Bring back the PAR 38 100W Halogen spot lights
How about NO ETHANOL and appliances that live decades instead of days?
on reddit there's a community "buyitforlife", we could have more consumer groups or discussions about products that are "built to last". More people buying these kinds of items might lead to more of them being made (although it can be bad for business if companies put out good products which prevents customers from having to continue to buy from them as much)
For the record, LED lights operate and emit frequencies in the exact same frequency ranges of the human brain. Not an accident.
They emit light with the same wavelengths as daylight. Otherwise, we couldn't see them. Not for those who can't stand blue skies. I'm fine with them. Having lots of cheap light is better than the alternative.
You might want to double check your data.
Sauce would be interesting to resd…maybe due its own posting…
...the headlight issue needs to b addressed, but more important, bring us back to frequencies that help us humans - 432Hz
One hack I've discovered: you can still buy candelabra incandescent bulbs, buy an adapter socket, and you're good.
I bought a lifetime supply of incandescent bulbs back when they first announced they were going 1984 on us about it. Feels good man
Hoarder 😉
🧐
Check at estate sales in your area where items from the entire house are sold off. I have been able to stock up on incandescent bulbs - including higher watts - for very little money.
I'm with you on your request. I think what will happen is the reconstitution of an incandescent industry here in America. I don't know where the incandescent bulbs were formerly produced, but we need those factories, wherever they were, to reopen, or to be built! This would be great investment opportunity for you guys! Who doesn't hate those LED bulbs. Makes me feel like I'm half stoned by that bluer ugly harsh light.
I watched this video years ago featuring an interview with Dr. Alexander Wunsch and Dr. Mercola about light bulbs, I found it rather interesting.

Interesting indeed; thanks for sharing.
No shit
Yeah, they are ruining my eyes.
I miss the warm glow. 😢
Try 2700K LED bulbs then.
This!!! Pleeeease!!!!
Another anon shared this; take a listen:

(There are some benefits from trying to live with the natural light of the sun only anyway which artificial bulbs have enabled people to get away from, a little too much)
Thrift stores have them if you look hard
I second the motion!
