I just found out that the CSS is 1.9% bigger, but the HTTP requests are reduced by 90%. So, THAT is where the SPEED improvements come from! I misunderstood what the AI told me (stupid humans, we should eliminate them, hey?).
Some of you might remember me experimenting with using Claude sonnet 3 to spot errors and optimize our CSS. It didn't work out well, it had bugs that the AI just couldn't fix and we had to roll it back.
Well, it's almost 2 years later and Claude Opus 4.7 is out, and, oh wow, it is extremely advanced. I am creating maybe a few surprises for us using this AI. But the biggest thing is that it works so well with no errors. I actually made over the past week two major CSS improvement uploads and as far as I can tell nobody has noticed, I can't see anything, no errors in any of the browser types and nothing on mobile.
So we are a go for the final improvement today. If today's improvement works our CSS drops by 50%, meaning that the site will load much faster for everybody.

After lots (and lots) of posts or comments you get one assigned automatically. There had been some exceptions a long time ago because of a specific mod, but he left. Maybe that'll change but you'd have to ask a mod.

I think you need 40K. I didn't get to choose. The special ones like Purkiss were a special request by the mod who bailed, I believe.

How about going back to the same place after we're done reading a post. Every time I go back I have to search for where I was, it's really annoying.
I wish WISH we could do this. BUT, in a couple of months, I might have a surprise for everyon.
What I usually do is right click the message (I am on a PC BTW). It will bring up a small menu. On that menu, there are options to open the link in a new tab or window. Click on one of them and then a new tab or window opens. The result is that you will not lose your place.
Same - PC. I scan headlines and open may 15 of them in new tabs. You can use CTRL+LEFT CLICK, or click down on your mouse wheel. Then I close each of those post after reading, and continue hunting for more posts of interest.
Doesn't help on phone. Plus this should just work.

We need to get to the bottom of this Conspiracy. BTW, it only happens on my cell phone. Not my computer.
Regular chrome browser. Can't even see type as I type in text box, can't see any words on my Chrome browser. Can't even see type as I type right now in text box (text is white on white background). Right column text is all white on white background. Profile pages are all white on white background. Have to highlight the whole page just to read anything.
Are you on mobile? What OS? That is extreme. Clear your cache? I am not able to reproduce this and I have every browser in existence installed.
All is fine in Firefox.
I'm in Firefox on Linux. Text is white on white background. Can't see what I'm typing, and can't see my u/dec3169 comments page at all. Same for the sidebar - although I do see the "Why Q?" in green text.
I just discovered I have the same issue with Edge. This means the CSS files are not being loaded, regardless of browser.
Your CDN is blocking some users from loading files, presumably those from other countries. I'm loading from the Philippines right now.
I am on android mobile with brave and I have the white on Grey. Can't see what I am typing and my avatar is gone too. Tha ks for working to fix this.
My cute little frog avatar (the one next to my name) is a little bigger but appears cut in half. Yours looks ok, Cats. Others also appear cut in half. (Using Android phone.)
Edited to add: note sure if this is related, but none of the X links take me directly to the post. It takes me to my generic home page. Behaved this way on several attempts just now.

Cascading Style Sheets. It is markup code (not programming code) that controls what elements on a web site looks like.
Same icon issue for me, using mobile, and brave browser. Also, my dark mode defaulted back to light, which made me slightly excited. (dark to light)

For some reason pressing the pic icon to the side of the title now quickly opens then minimises the pic. Finding I am now having to press it several times to be able to see the graphic at full size, whereas previously you could pressonce to maximise it, then press again to minimise.

The Q-derps are a HUGE bloat to the CSS, easily 35% of it. We really wanted to somehow find a way to optimize it but there was no way. So... eliminate the Q drops or nah? haha

Since you're thinking CSS, I'll suggest getting rid of red background on stickies and red text. There's not much contrast going on. Drop shadow helps a bit, but it's an accessibility nightmare.
I seem to have lost my Patriot avatar. Also, when typing this comment I have white text on light gray background. Kind of hard to see!! LOL

Something I've seen recently is that when someone selects italic font, it prints as green text on a white background. It's sort of a light green, so it's hard to read. Could it be a darker green or maybe just black and italic? I just looked on a color selector thing I have, here's a dark green that would probably work: #2F5609
Been a long time cats.. been in battle in a battle with the big C for the last year, but I'm okay now and decided to come back because I missed you all! But I only have half a Pepe. Because I've been gone so long I didn't know what happened so I did posted about it and got tons of very funny replies as to why I only have half a Pepe. But since you wanted us to report it I am. It's good to be back. I'm glad I didn't miss the ending but I wish it would come soon

I discovered I have the white text on white background while typing a reply on my iPad but on a pc with browser it works as it should. So Iām guessing it has some different mobile style to update.
I've noticed when trying to leave a comment that the comment sits there and doesn't post for a bit. So, I've had to copy it, then cancel it, then quickly post the comment into the box and save. Then it takes it.
I don't know what that means.

I can't just click I like a thread. I have to click the name of who posted the OP, and then up vote. That leads to people maliciously down voting every post of someone they've taken offence to.
