Whenever I go to the store I make it a point to pick up any garbage between me and the door......
Instead of crying about how lazy and filthy people are , I can focus on improvement
I figure maybe every now and then I might inspire someone else who sees me to do the same.....I dont look around or anything because its not about getting attention for me, I just do it
I also figure that the cleaner the lot is perhaps it would discourage other people from littering, broken window theory....
You might want to take something like a plastic milk container with you to put needles in, just to keep you and the garbage man safe. Just a thought...
I pick up trash in my neighborhood all the time and thought it was kinda rough, but yours sounds on a whole other level.
Once you get a section of street down to zero, and walk it regularly, it's actually quite maintainable. Only so much free shit enters the ecosystem every day and it only takes a couple of seconds to pick it up.
Really one patriot can easily keep an entire block clear of freeloader trash.
There was a movement and initiative in the US in the1970's by a nationwide group to have each member of the group 'adopt' an area of 360 homes, then to serve that area, love that area, and raise that area, as if it was the whole nation.
The concept is solid. The number is not really important. What's important is, as you say, if even a small number of people do this on a consistent and spread out level, the power would be incalculable.
Love and service in action is the antidote to apathy.
That's awesome to hear. I always think if I can't change the world I can change the world around me. Although ND is very clean at least where I live and in the cities near me, I try to make things better for people, for my customers. With a smile, or have a great day, and fast friendly service, sometimes lending an ear if someone needs to talk. I see people from across the US and in other countries in my workplace. So even in my tiny town that ripple effect of kindness hopefully goes far.
I try to be kind to everyone even the people that I can't tell if they're male or female.
My sister is a recovering addict, and while I probably would still avoid cleaning those areas maybe, just maybe say a prayer for those people. They're lost, she was lost but she's home now and I'm so happy to have her back. We lost our mother on the 21st had her memorial on Friday, it's hitting her really hard because she took care of my mom for the last two years living with her for the past four. So pray for them, even those that seem the most lost can find their way back.
Yeah most of our family is gone now it's me and her and our kids and our grandkids. My dad died in 2007 3 days before my daughter and these graduated high school my brother died on my niece's 22nd birthday.
I think it's really hardest on the kids and our great granddaughters we're trying to be strong for them. The two little ones are only three and they loved their nana.
This post is so fricken' powerful. It reflects the real spirit of the Great Awakening, in my opinion.
Becoming awake is the first step. But taking that awakening and acting is where the real rubber meets the road. Acting locally, tangibly, well, this is tangible memeing in the form of action.
Note: the highest form of meme warfare is to actually show an example and model to others in what you do, locally, substantially, and in the tangible real world.
Wow - well done my FREN. Just listening to your story I was vicariously living through you. It feels good man doesn’t it! 🐸
I just imagine if each person in a community would actively reach out to work as a poll worker, or at a local school, or just get involved somehow, we could be cleaning up the trash the same way politically.
I culture jam the left like this all the time. Not blue hair, mind you, but I definitely get down to their level and subvert expectations from within.
It's an OG's duty.
Also, the cross was definitely a sign. I have one I got from a craft project of recovering addicts who've come to Jesus. They apparently were doing basic woodworking as part of the recovery and had a huge basket of crosses for free. Put mine on a paracord, wore it constantly but it was frankly too large lol. It's on the car mirror now. Regardless, totems are no joke.
As an aside, there's a lady who picks up trash at the neighborhood parks I go to. Does it quietly, just her and her dog. Never talked to her (she was always off in the distance) but she definitely sparked some pride for the community in ME. Small sparks create brushfires. You're doing God's work. Thanks for sharing.
Reading through OP's post and the comments section got me to thinking; the core ideology at the heart of ANTIFA and BLM is that you have to burn the society down to rebuild it.
Imagine instead that after BLM, ANTIFA or some other group instigates a riot, once things cool down, a bunch of locals showed up with brooms, dustpans, trash bags, and if they have them, building materials and fire extinguishers and cleaned up the messes, put out the fires, and helped rebuild, or at least boarded up broken windows.
I guess you could call it an "anti-riot," and it would be a great way to bring communities together and show at least the people in the neighborhood who the real "bad guys" are....
You don't need to organize, either, just keep an eye on the news, and, if you have the time, grab your stuff after shit has gone down, and be there to clean up.
He was a guy that wanted to rebuild the walls and gates of his city when the rest of the people had given up on it long ago and let it be trashed. He got a team together and they rebuilt it.
Bonus points if you forgive the people you skipped and clean their area too next time. Counter their negativity with positivity and see if you note any differences/changes. I bet you could turn that slightly spiteful inaction into a genuine unconditional love for your community. ✌🏻
Dunno. Seems like it also has a certain strategic value. The motive is key, of course, but having those areas stand out for what they actually are seems like an important statement.
Sometimes unconditional love doesn't always mean taking up everyone else's slack, imo.
Praying for them is great, helping shame them to better moral behavior does not seem to conflict. It's for the good of the community and for their own eventual good as well.
I’ve been snooting whitepills a lot lately haha. Feeling very WWJD since the trucker convoy. They’re making more of a difference in their community than I am so I’m not one to talk.
I’d be fascinated to know between leaving their space messy vs cleaning it - which is more likely to motivate them to pick up said slack, though.
I think the places that are not being cleaned up are NOT the object of our cleaner's attention. That is, I did not get the impression that her efforts were in any way related to attempting to inspire THEM to take any sort of action.
Rather, it is highlighting to the community the reality what exists, imo.
If the intent here is to inspire THEM to clean up their act, that's a whole other ballgame, imo.
What it DOES do is (possibly) inspire those members of the community to take note of what can be done, and where the actual sore spots are.
I do this every day. I'm a garbage collector in a liberal shithole.
Word to the wise: bring some kind of hard container with you, like a large coffee container with a lid, to store needles when you find them. Preferably, you can get a bio-hazard container. Needles in plastic bags are bad news. If that bag rubs against your leg, you might have a rather uncomfortable talk with your doctor. Plus, most cities have a bio-hazard disposal program specifically for used needles.
It's been a lonnnnng time since I've needed to dispose of SHARPS (t1 diabetic on pump for years now) but I believe I remember hospitals always telling me they give out free SHARPS containers for diabetics as well as offering a disposal service for used sharps.
TBH, an old empty plastic orange juice bottle with a relatively large mouth or coffee can is perfectly fine.
It's been really eye opening that as a certain group (read: leftists) came moving into my neighborhood as years went past, the ones who will shit on you for not caring about the environment, waves of litter just started accumulating.
A very clean area that has gone to shit over the years.
You can't seem to go down a main road with a shit load of litter too.
It's one thing that the Japanese have over our collective heads. A tendency towards cleanliness. In the U.S., you walk down a city street and you see human shit and rats.
In Japan, you walk down Tokyo roads and you can actually see the road.
Wasn't there a gif on the larger scored network a few days back of a dude picking up trash and these two chicks were taking it out of the trash can and throwing it back on the ground?
"Making grannies happy is fun" THIS IS WHY I LOVE AMERICA!!!! Also, great job Indie. You should " Adopt A Street" if you have that in your community. They even make an official street sign with your name. Awesome example for the kids btw. Ground roots... this is an example of how you begin. Awesomesauce.
Naw man, I don't want you to look like a nerd. Just sayin... we adopted this practice in some local communities and the city sponsored official signs. With that said, once the signs were placed the city started making sure the sides of the roads were mowed and trees cut back. It suddenly became part of their responsibility. (because of their signs!) Anyway, the signs read "Adopted by..." and you fill in the blank. You could probably have some fun with that!
I live in a tourist area on a main road in a very small place. I regularily pick up trash because I don’t want our visitors to see it. I highly recommend The Grappler and their bag ringer for anyone who wants the best litter tools. And, yes, I get a lot of honks and thank yous. Made in the USA: GrapplersInc.com (don’t know how to do links, sorry)
There's a nice guy in my neighborhood that walks with his two very young grandchildren and they pick up trash too. I got to be friends with them because my house is on an intersection with the main road through our neighborhood, so trash ends up in my ditch. I was mowing the grass one day and saw the kids pick up the trash out of my ditch, so I thanked them and had a long conversation with them about dogs and cats 🤣.
Now everytime I see the kids or their grandpa we wave, have a chat, and it feels great to see them. The grandpa will even see me out in town and yell from across the store.
I am so glad I live in a place that doesnt have trash all over. Hubby and I moved to Northeastern Canada to Manitoulin Island. Its beautiful, no trash nice people and my town only has 1500 people in it. We moved from the greater Toronto area which is a big city but there really wasnt much for trash and there certainly were no drunks living in tents anywhere. I am assuming as you said its a dirty liberal city there must be a reason you cant just move. I hope soon you will be able to and go somewhere nice.
Wouldn’t you think cities would erect large trash receptacles in homeless encampments, if they aren’t going to enforce squatting/loitering/tent cities. Provide poop bags, like doggy parks and hotels do, and a can beneath to discard. Provide a lock box to discard needles. It is worth a try. They can then arrest those who are found just discarding trash everywhere. No excuses. Provide an outdoor shower while at it. This has to be tried rather than what we are and aren’t doing now.
God Bless you for being a servant of the Lord! That was LOVE you were doling out there, fren. Also, I should tell you that I ordered on Instacart and by mistake they put in a package of chicken tendies. I had never cooked them or even eaten them before. I got a recipe online and made them, covered in spices and then tossed in buttery panko. All I can say is: I am a complete fan of tendies!!

Oh man, vaping is so gay you should make them pick up the butts
I always organize the store shelves and displays. If things are out of place I always put them back. I am so OCD about this!
Ha...I do this sometimes as well,,,
Same. I refold messy t-shirts too. Can't quit that old retail skill!
You might want to take something like a plastic milk container with you to put needles in, just to keep you and the garbage man safe. Just a thought...
please do this, needles are no bueno

Thank you, so much.
Sorry to read about your mom, fren. I'm glad to read that you're there for your sister. She needs you.
Thank you, we need each other.
You do. My sister died almost ten years ago from a drug overdose. I'm glad she's still there for you.
Prayers going out for you and your sister. No matter what age you are, it's hard to lose a parent.

Good point! Make it happen. When you color your hair I want to hear about it. I want to be the first to know!

Yes -- they tear it down.
We build it up -- the way WE want it. Not the way they want it.
Exactly
BRAVO!
Thank you xir for your service.
i get called sir here a lot. I'm like ... why.
wellll everyone in the military gets called "sir" (even the female officers), and we ARE a digital army, therefore, we are all "sir" ... sir. ;)
good point!
I get called dude a lot. I think it's hilarious.
You're logical and online, you just be male! /s
LOL I think it's just a tendency to think we're all guys.
Here?
Yes, here. Often.
You’re a modern day Nehemiah.
He was a guy that wanted to rebuild the walls and gates of his city when the rest of the people had given up on it long ago and let it be trashed. He got a team together and they rebuilt it.
Reminds me of Pres. Trump: "We NEED to BUILD a WALL."
No time like the present to get some Bible literacy. Read the book of Nehemiah, who rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem.
and with his leadership, "the people had a mind to work" and accomplished what had seemed to be impossible before.
Based.

As a whole we need to clean up our cities.
But people should also clean up after themselves.

Way to go bro. Thx for helping make things better
Nice post. Be careful though, keep your head on a swivel. Pretty sure Antifa won't like it one bit.
One consistent exception I maintain in picking up trash is to never pick up in front of someone who appears to have possibly tossed it.
Fallen people don't like to have their behavior brought to light.
Hopefully you'll meet some other pickers. Everyone I've met has been a goodie!
Wasn't there a gif on the larger scored network a few days back of a dude picking up trash and these two chicks were taking it out of the trash can and throwing it back on the ground?
Just assholes, lmao
Might also be wise to do the trash-picking in the morning areas, most criminals don't tend to get up early to start their reign of terror.

Qanon.
Oh the waves of reeeeing could manipulate the weather.
Free crowbar only used in 3 crimes
crowbars are handy. Is Doge worried about the Ballistics Team tracing the crowbar to previous crimes and blaming them on you?
Crowbars already lack serial numbers.
No, It was just a joke about the random crowbar.
I live in a tourist area on a main road in a very small place. I regularily pick up trash because I don’t want our visitors to see it. God has his angles following you on your walks for protection! Thanks!!
careful, that crowbar is probably the murder weapon in a few unsolved crimes
The dude who killed a man with that crowbar thanks you!
Kidding, great job!

Haha you should run for sheriff of Malibu

Probably because they don't want homeless people digging through the trash cans either.
This post was a great read, love the wording!! 😂😂😂💯 Kek 🐸❣️
Lol skipping the shitty neighbors houses. Love it!
That is so damn Classy. Wow!
THANK YOUUUUUUUUU!!!

Your post is like reading a really good book. You really took me there, I can see it all through your words. You should be a writer!
Also, great example to set for others!!
I’m fairly surprised and impressed you have a grabber on hand.
