I started getting cash out and using it for gas, groceries, etc. some places even give me a discount for using cash.

Plus the bank doesn’t get 3% of my money for doing nothing.

Do IT!

I "pay" for it by not having to interact with someone when I'm not in the mood to, and I get to pack my groceries in my reusable bags the way I want it, which is often much more efficient and sturdy than the worker would do. I don't mind scanning my groceries myself when I get the benefits I listed above, and I much more prefer self checkout and them letting me do what I want.

Do you bag an entire cart of groceries? Like $300 worth? Hard pass.

At the rate we're going $300 worth of groceries is going to cost $3,000 - and fit in a single bag.

I do. I have to admit I like the self-checkout too. And for the same reasons. I can see that each thing scans right, I can use my own bags & pack it the way I want it so that icecream isn't bagged with laundry detergent, and I can scan my own coupons. AND I don't have to make nice with someone and I can keep listening to the X22 report in my ears, lol

Come on man. Convenience is a services a good business provides. Technology is a good thing and if Trump were in office, like before, we'd have a surplus of jobs.

I wish we could go back to horses. Ever talk to an old timer, they had self driving back then long before Elon Musk was born. There's something to "The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh" Going back home was always easy I understand, you could literally sleep on the way back. Horses always know their way home. It would be awfullt nice to get back to that and you know, if they try to pull of this rest bs we may have to ;)

If people had horses and a 2-way street relationship with those animals maybe they would learn some respect and honor.

Horses ground me. Dogs ground me. If you treat them with respect they are fiercely generous with everything they are.

Living independently is winning, whether it's moving out as a young adult 18-22, or making everything we could ever need as a society by ourselves. If we could make everything here, and prices don't get affected by world events, then that's winning as far as I'm concerned.

Clearly you haven't had to check-out, and bag an entire shopping cart full of groceries. Instead of being the customer, with a checkout person and bagger, you're doing it all yourself, and waiting for everyone else along the way.

I actually prefer self-checkout at these larger stores for a variety of reasons.

The real issue, as you say the ‘human equation’ within these larger stores is not really about where in the process is most useful. The entire system itself is set up as one massive logistics chain, it’s essentially a factory.

Smaller stores, niche, specialty shops… that’s where the human equation would be, where the ‘employee’ is pretty much the owner or have ‘skin in the game’ if you will.

Otherwise, that cashier at the Walmart or Whole Foods whatever… easily replaceable. Any day, anytime.

I think about this stuff quite often, sort of as a way to ‘game theory’ this stuff out.

Ultimately, I think, it comes down to the person — let’s call him Chuck in this scenario…

  1. Making a whole lot of compromises; and/or
  2. Does not have the will to shift perspective or build a stronger foundation.

The point is this person, does not need to work at the Walmart, or that massive Amazon warehouse. But, they choose to .. because XYZ (better wages, insurance/benefits, etc.) - at face value, they are all great and sound reasons.

Chuck has a family, and wants to ensure they are all fed, etc.

All sound reasons, but there is one element that is missing - Chuck is plugged into the system. He believes this is THE way to make a living and care for his family.

I wonder where Chuck got the idea that this is how it’s meant to be :)

Whenever someone wants to get out of ‘The Matrix’, this person will find a way, God’s open doors will be so bright and visible, etc. It’s like opportunity just lays itself onto your feet, etc.

Self-checkout seems innocuous but it is not a good thing for two main reasons:

  1. It takes jobs from away from people who need them

  2. It further erodes the human-to-human interaction of the marketplace which fosters basic trust in your fellow man...this is further evidenced by how walmarts increase of self checkouts has been coupled with checking your reciepts as you walk out.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– DaesDaemar 3 points 4 years ago +3 / -0
  1. It takes a long time, for groceries, and turns a customer into free labor.
permalink parent save report block reply

The lines at self checkout move quick because you don't have to funnel everyone through a handful of open checkout lanes.

Businesses are not charities. Oregon banning people from pumping their own gas as a way to create minimum wage jobs is just a racket, which ultimately increases the cost of the goods to the consumer because the gas station is forced to hire people for an unnecessary job and then they have to pay them wages... utter lunacy.

Those who need jobs can find jobs that serve some kind of actual purpose that will help them develop in a meaningful way. Cashiering is a great introduction to the labor experience, but should not be a lifelong career path, or at least not for most people. That just turns people into mindless zombies slaving away doing meanial tasks that benefits nobody.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– GodzillaTrump 2 points 4 years ago +2 / -0

Never said a cashier position should be a lifelong job, but its still an improtant stepping stone for high school and college aged people that is being reduced by self checkout. Pumping gas isnt really a comparison because the person to person interaction was never really there in the first place. The idea of a grocery store originates with the marketplace where you interact with other humans when buying and comparing products. Self checkout erodes that important part of marketplace participation. Anything that makes us interact less, trust each other less and keep us isolated more is a bad thing for us both for the individual and the community

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– MAGAdeburger 1 point 4 years ago +1 / -0

Modern grocery stores aren't marketplaces. The quicker and efficiently a person can get their groceries, the cheaper the costs, and the more free time available for leisure to spend socially interacting.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– GodzillaTrump 1 point 4 years ago +1 / -0

Again i didnt say they were just like the marketplaces of the past but they still have echoes of those places such as when you head to the meat counter and speak with the butcher about a particular cut or the baker for a certain cake. The cashier is also a part of these human to human interactions that you may not think much of in the moment but that help foster basic trust and friendliness among men. The more we do away with human to human interaction in the public sphere the more we isolate and dont trust anyone outside our circle or trust only ourselves. These changes are incremental but are visible (as i mentioned now Walmart stops you on your way out to check your receipt) but over time it builds and builds the less interaction overall we have with others. As someone once said “You may not have noticed, but your brain did.”

It's not just you, they have been driving small businesses out of business for years. I buy from a big box store too when it comes to groceries and hardware. I'm not trying to preach, I'm making changes wherever I can, trying to source materials and tools second hand and buying vegetables from people who grow in the summer and trying to learn to grow some of my own. The only way out is to help create an alternative economy. I think that economy is already thriving, it's just waiting for people to understand the reason for it.

Ditch banks and credit unions. Once you do that, you'll realize they've created a system that FORCES YOU to use some kind of FDIC insured institution. Any crypto exchange where you can trade fiat for crypto will absolutely require a bank account. Paying certain bills will only allow payments by ACH. Not even a debit card.

So... I opened an account with 'Current'. Works like a regular checking account and there are no maintenance fees for the basic account. No brick and mortar locations but they have all the features of a regular checking account. With this, I'm able to keep most of my value in crypto while transferring fiat as needed. In addition, you could also utilize coinbase's debit card which gives you several spending options with up to 4% back in crypto. Use wawa ATMs for free cash withdrawals for your Current account.

Credit unions suck too. They're all the same. Massive overhead and useless brick and mortar locations.

I've considered it a few times but I just don't do enough converting. I just do my regular trading in usdc on coinex and transfer over profits or whatever to coinbase to spend like cash. Coinbase is just too convenient to stop using entirely. I don't see that as bad though. It's simplicity can bring more folks into the game which would be a good thing.

I'm aware of several other platforms that offer debit features so I could use them too. I just don't yet.

Of course ‘Big Gov’ will market CBDC’s (this is what the thread is about really) as some form of ‘safe and equitable’ money, the typical bullshit platitudes / virtue signaling bullshit all the Libtards gobble up like a turkey happily basting itself with marinade.

I fear CBDCs will happen, but the saving grace that I think the US have is the power of the individual States.

Your USD in the bank is already a form of digital currency - the fact is you don’t own that account, and it can be seized any time. Any form of digital USD within the Fed wire system is already traceable and directly connected to you.

Maybe, and this is a big big Maybe, if CBDCs start to roll out, maybe a year or a decade from now, we would need some form of equilibrium for local trade.

Barter/Trade is not illegal today … until the IRS assholes want their cut (if you don’t declare).

This may be a good time to learn an important skill that provides a product or service in high demand. I am all for keeping cash alive.

However, if SHTF and banks are shut down, power shut down, internet shut down, gas disappears, etc we will need to resort to BARTERING.

The best way to barter is to offer something in high demand. If you start with essential, life providing skills, at the very least you can take care of yourself and your family.

For example, learn to:

  • garden
  • hunt
  • fish
  • can and bottle
  • store product to avoid spoiling
  • sew, including with an awl
  • camp
  • ride horses
  • raise livestock
  • be a carpenter
  • build shelters
  • make clothing
  • make shoes
  • quilt/yarn, etc

There are many more techniques. These are life skills. Even if you start them as a hobby this year, these could prove to be essential in life if SHTF. If you are good at them, you can barter for the things you need.

If you are good at them, you can sell them for cash in the meantime.

I think it is essential that we get back to MADE IN AMERICA anyways, so we may as well start with the essentials. I would much rather buy products with cash that are made locally than buy cheap sh*t from China or elsewhere.

I fear it will most likely happen, what we need to do is to ensure how it’s implemented and how do we balance this out?

For example — a cashless society means all forms of Payments will require some digital terminal (e.g. phone).

It doesn’t mean you can’t trade using other forms of ‘agreed upon’ asset between two parties. You could do the barter things, trade time, gold, crypto, etc.

The issue, I think, is land .. Gov has you by the balls, you don’t really own your land.

Our "cash" is a fucking scam that has lost 99% of it's value since the Federal Reserve was established. They don't need a cashless society to enslave you, you're already their tax livestock. That you can spend cash under the table and squirrel it away are good things, but neither are safeguards against inflation robbing it of all value.

We need a currency that isn't controlled by anyone and that can't be inflated. Until that day, the central bankers will rule the world.

"a currency that isn't controlled by anyone and that can't be inflated"

That doesn't exist. Even gold & silver can be inflated (debased). Need strong laws, and EXECUTIONS for violating them. In fact, current laws would work - if anyone cared to enforce them.

– AlFreeman 3 points 4 years ago +3 / -0

There are many cryptocurrencies that fit that bill. E.g. 21 million is the most Bitcoin that will ever exist and nobody can increase the supply to inflate it. Harsher laws will just be ignored as easily as current ones, assuming they'd even pass such laws in the first place. That ship has sailed anyway. The dollar is already completely debased and falling by the day.

I agree with this post. To all the people who are all for crypto and digital currency, you will only have money if those in control of the internet and power grid are ok with it.

Time to learn a trade or find a way to make a product independently.

If the internet and power goes down, we're all fucked either way. People won't be able to access their fiat in banks either. Debit and Credit cards will go down. If the internet goes down, it's be a total economic collapse for everyone. It's too essential to everything now.

If you think hoarding gold and silver are your ticket through the apocalypse, I suggest you watch Mark Dice's man on the street videos where he tries to exchange gold and silver with people.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_x8VswuLwU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndshbH3qZ6Y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN55tfvAUWI

Point being, in a SHTF situation where you will need to rely on trade and barter with strangers, you are better off stockpiling ammo, food, meds, and toiletries. The average person has no idea how much gold/silver are worth and that's with the internet in their pockets.

Short of a literal apocalypse, crypto is a 100% viable alternative to fiat and one that cuts the central banks and governments out of the picture. We can't afford not to adopt it, or we're all going down with the inflation ship together.

Those who are looking to hide from domestic abuse partners can easily be found by the corrupt who are paid to do so by the abuser. It means taxes on everything, even if you do odd jobs. That means restaurant servers can have parts of their tips confiscated by restaurants who take a cut, because they don’t charge their customers enough already! (A Chinese restaurant we used to go to does that, so we gave the waitresses cash tips.) In addition you’re ability to purchase, travel, etc. can be shut down by wrong think or speech. If there is a computer cyber attack, you are stranded because no processing can be done-you are at a restaurant and your digital pay is declined, you try checking into a hotel, your digital pay is declined, you try to buy gas or an airline ticket and your digital pay is declined. It will be a nightmare for the consumer, no big deal to big brother. They will try to sell it as a “convenience” to you, and “less chance of theft”, no wallet/purse to carry which could be stolen-safe, secure until it isn’t.

Some other items to consider are the people who operate completely in cash.

There is a whole population of people who either do not have a SSN (either refusing to be in the system or people who cannot get a SSN (illegal entry)).

One of the big reasons for a cashless society is for the bankers to get their hands on this large part of the population.

The cash only community have operated in anonymity but bankers know it exists, and they want their hands on EVERY PENNY.

Also, how can they count their slaves if part of the population in the US, is shielded from their view because they use cash?

http://notfooledbygovernment.com/lessons-for-a-free-america/america-held-captive-part-3-how-to-recognize-slavery-when-you-see-it/

Big data, they want to know your every move and thought. They have to inventory their livestock and right now that is not completely possible.

No tuck-away cash for beaten wives who want to leave.

Why not? You could memorize a wallet seed and address and have all your hiding money sent there.

Also, seriously how many situations are like this? This is like having male, female and unisex bathrooms for the 1% of trans people out there.

No more purchases of marketplace

Why not? You think they'll be able to charge all those people with fraud?

No more garage sales

Why not? I've seen people using Stripe credit card attachements on their phone at garage sales

No more donations to homeless and homeless you pass.

Why not? They could have a QR code I could hit with my camera. They'd probably get more money because people wouldn't have to stop and dig for change.

No more cash slipped in to the hands to a kid

Why not? Also, there's grandparents who can afford to do this? I mean I got money in a card for birthdays but it was no secret. Is this a situation like the beaten wife/oh won't somebody please think of the children?

No money in birthday cards.

There's a work around:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/384726297482?hash=item5993796b8a:g:2jIAAOSwEHJgS0NB

No more piggy banks for tooth fairy for your child

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/384726297482?hash=item5993796b8a:g:2jIAAOSwEHJgS0NB

Less choices of where you purchase based on affordabilty

Which is kind of going out the window due to not having to live near where you work.

Banks have full control of every cent you own

Not on a decentilized digital currency.

Every transaction you make is recorded.

It already is, even if you use cash they'll probably have you on camera.

All your movements and actions are tracable

They already are!

Alot of these downsides were repeated.

Some of the items in the list that a cashless society is claimed to end you can already do cashless using apps such as CashApp, Venmo, or even PayPal. For example: garage sales. In addition, in a cashless society, I'm pretty sure they will allow children to have account to ensure they are enslaved to the system early. I suspect they can already get some of the existing ones depending on age such as Venmo.

However, you may chose not to participate in those activities for risk of the government getting curious as to why you are involved in so many private transactions if you have a garage sale for example (they may suspect you've started dealing drugs or laundering money). Also, given how the government is trying to stamp out small businesses, they may very well ban or limit private person to person transactions to ensure no one is ever able to start or run a small business again. In a cashless society, the government can do a lot of messed up things. And seeing what they have been doing lately (and probably longer that but it has become more obvious lately), not a power you ever want to give these psychopaths.

In a cashless society, governments can impose lockdowns by simply limited your ability to spend your own money outside a specific radius of your home of record.

In a cashless society, governments can impose rationing and price controls.

In a cashless society, governments can program money to expire. Forget about saving for the future.

In a cashless society, you will be fined immediately for every infraction on the spot. These infractions will grow and grow until you won't even be able to say curse words without having to put money in the swear jar. See Demolition Man.

In a cashless society, you will be a slave.

and even with all this, it is far worse than you can imagine.

Interesting part about garage sales - I’ve sold things on craigslist and through random classifieds for years. Now places like Facebook marketplace are asking for your SS # so they can report your earnings to the IRS. I suspect it’s not for a small time people like me who just sell here and there when they need to, but there’s a whole crop of businesses that have started started trying to make a profit on there. The government doesn’t like competition, or the thought of people avoiding taxes. I also heard Venmo is reporting the earnings that you make as well. There’s really no way around it, we have to keep using Cash to maintain our freedom.

u/Truth4Freedom Am I imagining things or is this another way to tax us? If I sell things that I already bought with money that was taxed as income. Then I should not pay tax again on that money "earned" for selling items.

Good questions about crypto! That is not my area of expertise, but I know several anons on this platform can give you some advice on where to start with it. From a personal opinion (without too much knowledge on the subject), I have reservations about crypto since it seems very volatile and going fully digital either with cypto or a digital dollar seems to end up the same way - with a few people controlling / holding most of the wealth.

Who said anything about cashless? Even bitcoin would have coins and paper.

I just want the blockchain to protect the crypto and keeping out of Central theif control. You should be able to convert your Bitcoin to a paper bill or metal coin. When the paper goes back it the wallet its canceled. Date and time stamp on it. Scann3d back in by your phone. When ubwant cash you print it out. Blockchain is private.

In this version of the world, who would lend money for houses or cars? Why would they give you tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to be tied up for years to decades, when in the end all they're getting back is the money they had in the first place. Would the government manage that instead of the banks? I'm guessing not... I hate interest as much as the next person, but As long as we live in capitalism, people will do things to make money, and one way is to loan your money and get interest in return for fronting the entire cost of something. Otherwise, no one and no entity would just give away their money for no gain whatsoever. It you don't like that, then that's a problem with capitalism. Cuz even if banks didn't exist, then you'd just have rich people loan out money for interest and make their money work. But then they'd spin up a business to manage such things, and you're essentially right back to having banks.

However switching to a decentrilized made in America been around for like 10 years and is plugged in to banks and could be gold backed would be great for international transfers and would be an even playing field in a sea of liquitiy.
