In case you didn't know. In the event of being trapped inside your car, you can take the headrest out from the seat and use the metal rods to bust through the window.
Or just pull out your .40 and shoot the winder out.? Who doesn’t have a hand gun in their vehicle? Sheesh..!
Heaven strike me down with lightning if I’m ever that helpless where a remote lock on my suburban would strand me.
The problem with shooting inside isn't the sound, you can and will recover from that....it's all the glass that goes into your eyes and what is breathed in, that is the problem. Too much Hollywood influence has people not understanding correctly.
Are you forgetting safety glass? Auto glass has a plastic film on it to prevent splintering.. Besides if the impact comes from inside then particles go outward.
No, not forgetting what so ever, b/c it is a non issue to a bullet. The glass will chip and fragment INSIDE as well as outside, the gas coming out of the barrel is like a miniature typhoon, all those fine particles are propelled in every direction . Bullets do not make nice clean laser cut holes in safety glass. If you want to shoot through that window, be my guest, I wouldn't do it till it was literally the last option.
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it.
And that's why your car gun is a suppressed 45 with slow fat bullets.
Ever wonder why used cars were selling for more than fancy new cars?
I would love to hear from a whistle blower about covidhoax stimi funds buying used cars at inflated prices just to crush them like cash for clunkers did.
When using a suppressor, subsonic (slow) bullets can eliminate the crack by not breaking the sound barrier. Not hard to find slow 45s but you need to be particular in faster rounds like 22 or 9 etc.
They will probably make the windows bullet resistant in all vehicles soon, boy won't the drug criminals be upset then--they won't be able to shoot into a car window from another car or the street.
So the family instantly poo-poo'ed my concerns about this, because they all trust corporations and our government. I have zero trust in corporations or our government.
I think especially with the driver's door, pulling that handle on the inside should open your door. Mechanically, with no way for any computer to prevent it.
The internet seems to know nothing about this possibility, that the computer in your car can lock you inside
So law enforcement will be able to do this - obviously. They will be able to stop your car and lock you inside.
Me too. 2004 Chevy Suburban. The kids made fun of me when I had rust removed about 7 years ago. It's starting to rust out again. I told them, with any luck dad and I will die at the same time and they can use it as our coffin and bury us in our yard.
Of course they didn't think that was funny but we did.
Most modern cars and every car with a navigation system sends data about everything you do through a satellite or cell system back to the company. They track everywhere you go, for how long, where you work, where you like to eat, etc.
Typically you would have to disable this function specifically. Try a YouTube search for your car model.
Don't quote me on this, but I have a feeling you're going to be one of the handiest people to have around when people wake up and decide to purchase an older car. Not every beater got picked up during Cash for Clunkers, after all. 😀
That is definitely true. I had an older clunker that I didn't want. They wouldn't take it because it was too old. They only wanted the newer model used cars that people who couldn't afford new cars would buy.
That's if they don't outright ban them in the name of the "environment." The amount of shit I get for my older vehicles and these kids telling me they hope the gov't bans them because of pollution (then same kid gets in his H3 or X5).
Same. I drive an old pickup truck. Get endless shit from the neighbors that all drive Tesla. I got a bunch of articles printed out with pictures of the horror show that is lithium mining and hand out copies I keep in the glovebox whenever they say shit -- and I usually tell them "just think how many people DON'T have a electric cars for every person you convince to drive those POS you're endorsing another one of the mines in the name of 'the environment'.
It's fun but nobody gives AF. They're all do what their told people.
Then they look at their "clean" EV and look no further that the EV itself because they're told "it's clean". Nevermind the pollution and destruction that goes on behind the scenes. Electricity comes from somewhere, the paints produced are the same process as traditional vehicles, the components and so on.
It's just burying their heads in the sand. The feel better about themselves because they see it as they're not affecting the environment (which is in itself wrong - just not doing it directly).
I knew a guy that wanted the onstar disabled in his new truck a couple of years ago. We took the dash apart and it was quite easy actually. Never ever buy a toy electric car, that shit prob wont even work if it cant be remotely accessed.
Right on. Chances are somebody figured out how to kill every bit of garbage on your car and posted it somewhere. There are plug in boxes now to disable the engine off crap when you stop at a light. Along with other stuff too.
Oh i fucking hate that shit. Its easy to make a small circuit that would have a timer and after 10 seconds close a circuit that could be wired to the button that turns off the auto off. If there is not a button to disable this crap it would be a bit more complicated but fully doable.
Not to mention often new vehicles have cameras on the front and back, can be hacked and controlled because the throttle, brakes and steering are electric. I actually saw years ago on like '20/20' or '60 minutes' two guys with a laptop hacked a Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove it around a parking lot remotely.
All the separate systems by different manufacturers that then have to get integrated. Windows-style bloat, regulatory junk and the alphabet agencies' back doors and information collectors...
Yeah, I think I need to switch to an antique car. The walls are closing in on us.
I've been battling with an airline all day. I bought a first class ticket and they put me in the back of the plane. No doubt because AI has me on a list. A list that we are all on.
I've always owned and loved low tech vehicles. Simple = reliable. Cash for clunkers purposely took out the simple and reliable vehicles. If you can't be stopped with a keystroke, you can't be controlled by whomever. If you can't fix it yourself, you don't actually own it. If you can't hold it in your hand, you don't own it. Stay simple, stay handy, stay ungovernable.
I don't see the screenshot showing a message where people should exit the car immediately, mentioning that you could be trapped. I only see software update available with current version.
Either way, that is a shame if this vehicle does not let you manually lock/unlock the doors.
This is not new. Police use this to trap criminals trying to steal cars. They intentionally leave the keys in the ignition and when the thief tries to crank the car, the doors lock, the ignition locks and they just drive up and arrest the thief.
From the bits of those stupid shows I've seen, they'll usually use a decent car, and it would probably be a male and female cop acting as a married couple, having an argument and walking away from the car. One or a few idiots go in to steal it, and boom, manufactured victim.
Old cars only. Cash for clunkers was a scam to get all the real affordable cars off the road so they could bring in this electric hybrid self driving bs
Silly to not have a direct action lever for the latch - basic usability. Why you would want a motor or solenoid is beyond me, just seems overkill on the electrics.
I seem to remember on most of the vehicles I have owned (admittedly none newer than 2000), the driver's door always opened from the inside, even if locked.
I don't think it is true any more. I wasn't there at the time. My adult children did the update and were a little alarmed that it suddenly demanded that they exit the vehicle because of the possibility of being trapped.
To me it is the same thing - this warning is to establish consent. That we all consent to them making cars that can trap us inside with a command issued over the air.
Possibly, yes, but that's not what's happening here. If your locks are controlled electronically (even if not connected to the internet, when doing a software update, what would happen if you bricked your system? (Made it no longer work) How could you tell the system to unlock the doors if the system is down?
The car DEMANDED that everybody exit the vehicle because of the threat that the doors might lock and people would be trapped inside.
That is terrifying and should never have been approved. The drive should be able to mechanically open the door at all times without any way for software to prevent it.
Sure makes sense. Mostly for Liability. But yeah of coarse it's a poor design. Which vehicle make and model? Maybe it can be done manually just gotta look at the manual
No not really. In either case. Since the windows are designed to be kicked out, a naferious force locking you in wouldn't actually trap you. So still a poor design
An this is the reason all new cars have electric power steering, electrically actuated shift levers, drive by wire throttle bodies, wifi, OTA software updates, 20 friggin cameras on board and no manual transmissions.
As with all things, Europe is two steps ahead of us in getting cucked.
Intelligent speed assistance (ISA), or intelligent speed adaptation, also known as alerting, and intelligent authority,[1] is any system that ensures that vehicle speed does not exceed a safe or legally enforced speed. In case of potential speeding, the driver can be alerted or the speed reduced automatically.
"The EU voted to improve driver safety by enacting the General Safety Regulation (GSR) 2019/2144 which requires all new vehicle types as of July 6, 2022, and any newly produced vehicles from July 7, 2024, to be equipped with ISA technology"
Dystopian fiction always seemed so unrealistic to me back in the 80's. What dumbasses would let their governments get that oppressive? Then for the last 40 years, the question has been clearly answered -- nearly every single person there is. It was even more surprising when I saw their anger while trying to get them to see.
In case you didn't know. In the event of being trapped inside your car, you can take the headrest out from the seat and use the metal rods to bust through the window.
That was how cars worked in Cyberpunk 2077.
They also melted through the street. 😆
Or just pull out your .40 and shoot the winder out.? Who doesn’t have a hand gun in their vehicle? Sheesh..! Heaven strike me down with lightning if I’m ever that helpless where a remote lock on my suburban would strand me.
I value my hearing
More than your life?
The problem with shooting inside isn't the sound, you can and will recover from that....it's all the glass that goes into your eyes and what is breathed in, that is the problem. Too much Hollywood influence has people not understanding correctly.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it.
Mmm. Ever actually examined particles displacement patterns from anything that has been struck by a high velocity projectile.
You're right, I either keep a gun or a headrest in my vehicle, never both.
Probably enough to make your ears ring for a few days.
When using a suppressor, subsonic (slow) bullets can eliminate the crack by not breaking the sound barrier. Not hard to find slow 45s but you need to be particular in faster rounds like 22 or 9 etc.
I thought we were talking about car guns which in my world are distinctly different.
Who drives a car without at least two forms of ear protection inside? Hmm. Maybe it's just me who does that.
They will probably make the windows bullet resistant in all vehicles soon, boy won't the drug criminals be upset then--they won't be able to shoot into a car window from another car or the street.
I don't think all head rests can be removed
Seat belt latch is pretty hard. I'm sure that would break glass.
Maybe
You are right. Non adjustable headrests on bucket seats have nothing to remove...
Yea I read that somewhere too, thank!
So the family instantly poo-poo'ed my concerns about this, because they all trust corporations and our government. I have zero trust in corporations or our government.
I think especially with the driver's door, pulling that handle on the inside should open your door. Mechanically, with no way for any computer to prevent it.

People should have a window breaker in their glove compartment anyway…
And a seat belt cutter!
That’s why both cars are 2009. Just enough tech and looks to fit in and not connected to net.
Me too. 2008 to be specific. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off.
Me too. 2004 Chevy Suburban. The kids made fun of me when I had rust removed about 7 years ago. It's starting to rust out again. I told them, with any luck dad and I will die at the same time and they can use it as our coffin and bury us in our yard. Of course they didn't think that was funny but we did.
Mine's 2005.
2007... Do we have a straight yet? Lol
Right.! And what sheep don’t.? Minor complication.
But for pussies and soy boys the masculine violent thought of even breaking out a driver side window with their elbow would frighten them.
Well, Bill Goldberg--yes, the pro wrestler--came within a centimeter of losing his arm doing that in WCW, so...
Seriously, he was out for at least nine months after this. Serious blood vessel damage.
So I don't blame anyone for the fear. Get a window-breaker tool of some kind and keep it in the glove compartment.
I wont have any active cell connection in any vehicle I own. Just physically disable it
Same.
Is this more than just not connecting my phone and car via Bluetooth? Your statement sounds more like you need to do something versus not do something
Most modern cars and every car with a navigation system sends data about everything you do through a satellite or cell system back to the company. They track everywhere you go, for how long, where you work, where you like to eat, etc.

Thank you.
there was a mod to the hardware.
Disable it and void your warranty.
nope, might void the warranty on the module you modded but thats all. the rest of the warranty stands.
Yup☘️breathalyzer coming soon. Not going to be able to start the car until you breathe into it.
...if your vehicle has cell phone access, then it really isn't "your vehicle"...
...doggy winks....
Glad I’m a mechanic. I’ll keep my old beaters for $500 Alex!
Don't quote me on this, but I have a feeling you're going to be one of the handiest people to have around when people wake up and decide to purchase an older car. Not every beater got picked up during Cash for Clunkers, after all. 😀
Cash for clunkers goal was to remove affordable, reliable and cheap transportation from circulation.
Next hoax grab will probably be cash for gassers, with EV vouchers...
That is definitely true. I had an older clunker that I didn't want. They wouldn't take it because it was too old. They only wanted the newer model used cars that people who couldn't afford new cars would buy.
Ya know what................. that makes far too much sense.
That's if they don't outright ban them in the name of the "environment." The amount of shit I get for my older vehicles and these kids telling me they hope the gov't bans them because of pollution (then same kid gets in his H3 or X5).

15 years ago or so I wanted a Hummer so I could take up an entire lane by myself.
I knew a guy that wanted the onstar disabled in his new truck a couple of years ago. We took the dash apart and it was quite easy actually. Never ever buy a toy electric car, that shit prob wont even work if it cant be remotely accessed.

He didn't get an angry call telling him that the truck would blow up everybody in a one-mile radius if he didn't reenable the OnStar?
haha no, just the onstar was completely shitcanned in the truck.
Ha! Anybody want to buy a 1968 International? ~{°¡°}~
Not to mention often new vehicles have cameras on the front and back, can be hacked and controlled because the throttle, brakes and steering are electric. I remember that show. And if I’m not mistaken that was like 10+ years ago so you know it’s even easier to do now
How would that be possible without splicing into the wiring and installing a receiver?
Probably from the Chrysler equivalent of OnStar.
I kinda doubt that to be honest. AAA games are easily 50 GB and up.
Why so much code?
All the separate systems by different manufacturers that then have to get integrated. Windows-style bloat, regulatory junk and the alphabet agencies' back doors and information collectors...
Jeeeeez
You're not locking me in my car. Period
Analog all day baby
Yeah, I think I need to switch to an antique car. The walls are closing in on us.

I wouldn't think you'd be trapped though.
Can't you still unlock the doors by actuating the lock manually?
I had an older Jeep where you would pull the door handle and it would automatically disengage the lock and door would open.
Not sure how those moronic all electric cars door locks work though.
If that were true then why did the car demand that everybody exit the car immediately, with the explanation that you could be trapped?
I don't see the screenshot showing a message where people should exit the car immediately, mentioning that you could be trapped. I only see software update available with current version.

Woah
What year? My daughter has a 2020 Yukon.
2023
This is not new. Police use this to trap criminals trying to steal cars. They intentionally leave the keys in the ignition and when the thief tries to crank the car, the doors lock, the ignition locks and they just drive up and arrest the thief.
That would be a great feature for a customized crime stopping vehicle. Not for a commercial mass market car.
When the driver pulls the handle, the door should open, and no electronics or software should be able to stop it.
I agree. I bought one of those window breakers for both of my vehicles just for this purpose!
From the bits of those stupid shows I've seen, they'll usually use a decent car, and it would probably be a male and female cop acting as a married couple, having an argument and walking away from the car. One or a few idiots go in to steal it, and boom, manufactured victim.
I never said they were smart! KEK I would say most of the thieves are not first timers either!
Old cars only. Cash for clunkers was a scam to get all the real affordable cars off the road so they could bring in this electric hybrid self driving bs

Yes, that would be common sense.

To me it is the same thing - this warning is to establish consent. That we all consent to them making cars that can trap us inside with a command issued over the air.
There has to be a market for basic cars. A skid plate should always be an option.
Possibly, yes, but that's not what's happening here. If your locks are controlled electronically (even if not connected to the internet, when doing a software update, what would happen if you bricked your system? No not really. In either case. Since the windows are designed to be kicked out, a naferious force locking you in wouldn't actually trap you. So still a poor design
I work with Chevys all day long, it absolutely did not say anything about exiting a vehicle.
You are mistaken.
I work at a Chevy dealership. That screen doesn't exist.
Fuck off
Lol, ok, guess we know where your reality stands.
An this is the reason all new cars have electric power steering, electrically actuated shift levers, drive by wire throttle bodies, wifi, OTA software updates, 20 friggin cameras on board and no manual transmissions.
Don't forget electronic emergency brake so you can't stop if you get hacked. That manual transmission with zipper windows is pretty nice.
Yup forgot about the emergency brakes too. Manual windows never break so that's a bonus
They never WHAT? Hahahaha
That's been my experience.
I drive a manual--so far!
How about an older WRX in good condition?
So do I.
👍👍👍🔥
It makes it easier to hack into the car and take control of it.
Check out what the do to a 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

Ahhhh. So that’s why slojoe couldn’t get into the White House after his alleged inauguration.
Splains a lot.
