Chevy Suburban wanted to do a software Update. It then demanded that everybody exit the vehicle in case the doors would refuse to unlock and trap everybody inside. So... software can trap you in your car? And it is connected to the internet? (tse2.mm.bing.net)

In case you didn't know. In the event of being trapped inside your car, you can take the headrest out from the seat and use the metal rods to bust through the window.

Or just pull out your .40 and shoot the winder out.? Who doesn’t have a hand gun in their vehicle? Sheesh..! Heaven strike me down with lightning if I’m ever that helpless where a remote lock on my suburban would strand me.

The problem with shooting inside isn't the sound, you can and will recover from that....it's all the glass that goes into your eyes and what is breathed in, that is the problem. Too much Hollywood influence has people not understanding correctly.

– Island_Photo 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Are you forgetting safety glass? Auto glass has a plastic film on it to prevent splintering.. Besides if the impact comes from inside then particles go outward.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– Choctaw 4 points 3 years ago +4 / -0

No, not forgetting what so ever, b/c it is a non issue to a bullet. The glass will chip and fragment INSIDE as well as outside, the gas coming out of the barrel is like a miniature typhoon, all those fine particles are propelled in every direction . Bullets do not make nice clean laser cut holes in safety glass. If you want to shoot through that window, be my guest, I wouldn't do it till it was literally the last option.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it.

And that's why your car gun is a suppressed 45 with slow fat bullets.

Ever wonder why used cars were selling for more than fancy new cars? I would love to hear from a whistle blower about covidhoax stimi funds buying used cars at inflated prices just to crush them like cash for clunkers did.

– Dontstopbelieving 2 points 3 years ago +2 / -0

When using a suppressor, subsonic (slow) bullets can eliminate the crack by not breaking the sound barrier. Not hard to find slow 45s but you need to be particular in faster rounds like 22 or 9 etc.

So the family instantly poo-poo'ed my concerns about this, because they all trust corporations and our government. I have zero trust in corporations or our government.

I think especially with the driver's door, pulling that handle on the inside should open your door. Mechanically, with no way for any computer to prevent it.

The internet seems to know nothing about this possibility, that the computer in your car can lock you inside

So law enforcement will be able to do this - obviously. They will be able to stop your car and lock you inside.

Most modern cars and every car with a navigation system sends data about everything you do through a satellite or cell system back to the company. They track everywhere you go, for how long, where you work, where you like to eat, etc.

Typically you would have to disable this function specifically. Try a YouTube search for your car model.

That's if they don't outright ban them in the name of the "environment." The amount of shit I get for my older vehicles and these kids telling me they hope the gov't bans them because of pollution (then same kid gets in his H3 or X5).

Same. I drive an old pickup truck. Get endless shit from the neighbors that all drive Tesla. I got a bunch of articles printed out with pictures of the horror show that is lithium mining and hand out copies I keep in the glovebox whenever they say shit -- and I usually tell them "just think how many people DON'T have a electric cars for every person you convince to drive those POS you're endorsing another one of the mines in the name of 'the environment'.

It's fun but nobody gives AF. They're all do what their told people.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– ragingrobot 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

Then they look at their "clean" EV and look no further that the EV itself because they're told "it's clean". Nevermind the pollution and destruction that goes on behind the scenes. Electricity comes from somewhere, the paints produced are the same process as traditional vehicles, the components and so on.

It's just burying their heads in the sand. The feel better about themselves because they see it as they're not affecting the environment (which is in itself wrong - just not doing it directly).

Oh i fucking hate that shit. Its easy to make a small circuit that would have a timer and after 10 seconds close a circuit that could be wired to the button that turns off the auto off. If there is not a button to disable this crap it would be a bit more complicated but fully doable.

Not to mention often new vehicles have cameras on the front and back, can be hacked and controlled because the throttle, brakes and steering are electric. I actually saw years ago on like '20/20' or '60 minutes' two guys with a laptop hacked a Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove it around a parking lot remotely.

I've always owned and loved low tech vehicles. Simple = reliable. Cash for clunkers purposely took out the simple and reliable vehicles. If you can't be stopped with a keystroke, you can't be controlled by whomever. If you can't fix it yourself, you don't actually own it. If you can't hold it in your hand, you don't own it. Stay simple, stay handy, stay ungovernable.

I wouldn't think you'd be trapped though.

Can't you still unlock the doors by actuating the lock manually?

I had an older Jeep where you would pull the door handle and it would automatically disengage the lock and door would open.

Not sure how those moronic all electric cars door locks work though.

I don't see the screenshot showing a message where people should exit the car immediately, mentioning that you could be trapped. I only see software update available with current version.

That would be a great feature for a customized crime stopping vehicle. Not for a commercial mass market car.

When the driver pulls the handle, the door should open, and no electronics or software should be able to stop it.

Yes, that would be common sense.

I don't think it is true any more. I wasn't there at the time. My adult children did the update and were a little alarmed that it suddenly demanded that they exit the vehicle because of the possibility of being trapped.

To me it is the same thing - this warning is to establish consent. That we all consent to them making cars that can trap us inside with a command issued over the air.

The car DEMANDED that everybody exit the vehicle because of the threat that the doors might lock and people would be trapped inside.

As with all things, Europe is two steps ahead of us in getting cucked.

Intelligent speed assistance (ISA), or intelligent speed adaptation, also known as alerting, and intelligent authority,[1] is any system that ensures that vehicle speed does not exceed a safe or legally enforced speed. In case of potential speeding, the driver can be alerted or the speed reduced automatically.

"The EU voted to improve driver safety by enacting the General Safety Regulation (GSR) 2019/2144 which requires all new vehicle types as of July 6, 2022, and any newly produced vehicles from July 7, 2024, to be equipped with ISA technology"

Dystopian fiction always seemed so unrealistic to me back in the 80's. What dumbasses would let their governments get that oppressive? Then for the last 40 years, the question has been clearly answered -- nearly every single person there is. It was even more surprising when I saw their anger while trying to get them to see.

Ahhhh. So that’s why slojoe couldn’t get into the White House after his alleged inauguration.

Splains a lot.
