I didn't expect this from Trump. My gut reaction to this was "This is a terrible idea."
That said, I also figured sending 1/2 of every willing state's national guard to help support the border to be a good idea. Taking out 100% of local guardsman just seems like a recipe for disaster.
He must see something that isn't obvious to leave states without their guard. Granted citizens still have an aver whelming amount of ammo & firearms, though they aren't in trained militias that work well together as the guard should be.
I'm sure states won't send all their NG troops, they may send them in groups, as an example, like one group goes for maybe 6 months, then they go home as another group replaces them.
That is the most likely scenario. Before I read it as a Trump suggestion, I thought OP may have been tossing out a potentially bad idea.
