Isn't it too late to change the name on the ballots? People have already been voting in many states in person and with mail-ins. How would that work out?

No election, I would say, in the last 30 years was probably done on the up and up. The Republicans have mainly been RINO's and the Dems/Commies have been far, far, to the left-so maybe we have been sabotaged for a longer time than what you think. No sauce, just my opinion.
I think most of us here agree on this. The rigging starts at the primaries. All primary candidates are chosen by the elites. That's how you end up with two Bonesmen, Kerry and Bush, running against each other. The citizens always lose, but they believe they had a choice.
It makes Trump's crashing of the 2016 Republican primary even funnier in hindsight.

In my state, if they change out the prime candidate, all votes for that person go to the replacement. This is only allowed under special circumstances ie death of a party's nominee

Though, if Hillary takes a chunk of Kamala’s votes as a write-in candidate, it would make it very easy for Trump to get the most votes over all in most states.
I wonder what would happen in this scenario though. If a candidate gets the most of any candidates, but two candidates are allied and together they have more, who should the electors choose?

We don't vote for a name on a ballot, we vote for an elector who may or not be pledged, i don't recall how pledging works legally. If kamala is disgraced/quits/gets offed by Hillary, but gets the elector, Hillary can certainly swing the elector. Or Mike. Or pencilneck Adam Schiff. Or you or me. The electors vote for the President via the state legislatures in some fashion and the states send their determination to Congress for a Jan 6 tally, except Nebraska and Maine who have split systems where the legislatures can send a split ticket.
Most elections, one party concedes before the legislatures even receive the electors, so it's mostly been a ceremonial task from the day after the general election until 2020. 2000 was determined by the courts due to hanging chad.
