I've been wondering whether the republic won't end up declaring a brand new capitol. I can think of some compelling reasons for hauling out the rods of God to destroy the swamp once and for all. It would explain all of the empty buildings, at the very least.
My only thought is that the Capitol should be welcoming to every citizen, at any time. If I needed/wanted to go to the Capitol in Nebraska, I would limit my visit to about a 6 month window. (avoiding snows/cold, tornadoes, etc.) DC has moderate winters and summers (some spikes in temps in both seasons, but you get the drift). I've never actually been in a tornado but I was a couple of towns over when one went through - No, Thank You.
It needs to be turned into one big ass museum with all the evidence on display (maybe not everything) and a law pasted that every school has to take their students there every year for a week. That way they will never ever forget!!!
