That "little sis" made it clear to me after my divorce that she could see all the signs in my ex that she suffered from during a time when she couldn't marry a man I introduced her to. She told me she just couldn't accept that a man could really forgive her & be so gentle & kind. She still beats herself up over it to this day because she saw how well he treated other girls he dated & finally married.
Patience & long-suffering are under appreciated IMO.
