It was more than usual. The teller's manager came over to ask me what it was for. I was so taken aback I didn't say "How is that any of your business?" Which really shocked my husband because I am usually quick on the draw that way. How did we get here? The bank thinks they are the boss of what I do with my money? Just like the IRS things THEY should be auditing US??? We should be asking them where OUR money is, no?
Rant over. Just thought it was interesting how they chip, chip chip away. Over time, we kind of forget who was supposed to be in charge of what.
Lol had the same experience on the first withdrawal and said “privacy act prevents me from telling anyone”. Branch manager was taken back.

We went to get a large cashiers' check for a real estate transaction, same routine...I bit my tongue because the teller could derail the whole event and I end up in cuffs, or worse.

A similar thing happened to me. It was a large check from a customer of mine, and I was cashing it at his bank because I use a credit union that was not local to where I was. Fucker asked me what I did to earn it. I told him that it was none of his business, that it didn't matter if it was a hand job or otherwise. They refused to cash it. Until my/their customer called and reamed them out that is. Don't ever back down from any of it. It's that simple.
I once said the same thing about a hand job, and the manager demanded I give him one or they wouldn’t cash the check.

I was moving funds around earlier in the year to pay property taxes and two of my banks asked. And I did say to both of them “well it doesn’t seem to me like that’s any of your business.” One of them explained that there’s been a rash of people getting held up. Apparently people watch them walk out of the bank follow them home or wherever they’re going and then pull a gun on them and steal whatever cash they have. I don’t know that I buy that. I just replied don’t worry about me. I’ve got myself protected. Ha ha.
What does someone getting held up have to do with your plan for your own money? There’s no connection between their question and their excuse for asking it.
They are hiding behind a story of ransom or similar: "We are concerned that you are in a dangerous situation and WE WANT TO HELP YOU." Total BS.

All the teller did was signal to everyone around you that you were making a large withdrawal. I mean, if it were $20, they would hand it over to you and not say anything. Make a large withdrawal, and everyone now knows you made it because the teller is asking this question. Anything over about $50 I ask the teller not to count out loud for anyhow. No need for everyone in the bank to hear how much money I am walking out with. They count it to themselves as they lay it on the counter, I count to myself as they do that also. They put it in an envelope, I shove it in my purse, no one knows how much I have. Why do they count your money so loud out to you? Do they think I can't count if they just put it on the counter one by one? Are we all that retarded???
Several years ago, we hired a guy to come in and do some re-modeling work in the house we had at the time. He had that happen at a Lowes or Home Depot - he paid cash for something, and someone who saw that he had a wad of cash in his pocket followed him home, beat the snot out of him, and made off with his cash.
All I can say is if you're going to carry cash, make sure that's not the only thing you're carrying. We should all carry, regardless. It wouldn't surprise me if they start charging anyone carrying a lot of cash, like they do hunters who bait their prey.

Our outgoings for running the farm are often more than what I am now allowed to draw from the bancomat (ATM) and so need additional cash.
I am also worried about the financial stability of Italy at present, with all the limits placed on withdrawals, and so want some cash on hand if things turn bad.
However, I need to say, that in the end this is my money I entrust with the bank. No-one should question what I am doing with my own money. And clearly, you have been told to question me so you are just doing your job, but the last time I looked, we are not yet a communist government.
Did you know , the bank is required by law to report to the IRS if a transaction is more than 9000 per week I believe. But not credit unions. Imagine what they will do if we go digital. And why does the IRS keep track🤔
Federal Law allows for $9,999.99 per day without it being reported to the IRS. That is withdrawal or deposit. Hit the $10K mark and you are filling out paperwork, form 8300. Withdrawals from a tax deferred account has to be reported regardless of the amount because it is considered income. It has been like this for years. They want to tax it as much as they can. The reason that they do this is to track the large movement of money used for criminal activity. Thing is they don't have to do shit to give it away fraudulently to pay off their debts for their own criminal activity.
But well under $10k still gets reported, and if you take out $2k over multiple transactions they'll investigate you for structuring.
If they have their way about it, they still want to monitor anything processed for 600.00 or more. It is serious over reach and even though I work in the industry, I don't trust it one damn bit.

As from the year 2012, the IRS made e-filling of Form 8300 available which is free of charge. If you or your business has received a cash payment of over $10,000, the Federal law requires that you file Form 8300 within a span of 15 days after receiving the receipt.
Additionally, the IRS considers any exchange that takes place within less than 24 hours as a transaction that should be filed in Form 8300. You don’t need to file cash donations if you run a tax-exempt charitable organization.
This is why all these elites have their fraudulent organizations set up.

I have been in the banking industry for 20+ years. I have never made it to a management position or anything higher than quality control because I have a big mouth and the upper echelon don't like people like me. I keep as little as possible in the bank because i don't want anyone getting rich off of my money. I have seen first hand how the industry is and no one wanted to listen to the conspiracy theorist crazy lady when I tried to explain that the Federal reserve was privately owned and literally has nothing to do with the government. These are the things people don't care to know.

Recently I took most of savings out of the bank to store at home bc I want to have access to it. You can't really trust what's going to happen to the banks going forward, was my thinking. No one asked me about the withdrawals probably bc I took the money out via the ATM (my credit union is in another state from the one I live in so ATM at another credit union is the way I get and deposit cash).
But, if someone had asked me what the $ was for, after I hopefully would have asked them what business it was of theirs, I would have told them I was taking money out bc I'm thinking their bank will fail. Wonder how they'd like that response?
What they really hate is when you max out on a card and make minimum payments. They downgraded my credit for that.

I think they hate me as a credit card customer. I buy lots of things on the card, and then pay it off before 6pm the next day.
You know they make a transaction fee from the merchant every time you use your card. They are still making money whether you pay interest or not.
Now, they're not making that money from a lot of merchants, especially smaller mom & pop shops/restaurants. These places have started passing that fee on to any customer paying by plastic. Most recently, my wife an I had to pay an extra 3% at an antique store. I harbor no ill will or resentment to the shops.
This is analogous to what happens when the government raises taxes on manufacturers and other corporations - we, the consumers, are the ones getting screwed. These companies aren't going to take the hit, they're just going to pass it on.
They should say Discount for cash! Instead they make it sound like you are getting charged MORE than normal. I wish every establishment did this. The CC make bazillions of this scam for doing basically nothing.
I use a cc for EVERYTHING unless they give a discount for cash. The CC gives me back several thousand dollars yearly for cash back bonus.
I use cash when they offer discounts for cash or it is a “mom and pop” establishment.

Yeah it’s getting a little crazy. I went through the drive thru of a bank where I have an account to get a twenty changed into one dollar bills. Teller asked if I have an account there and what my name was. I was a little taken aback. Cashing a check I understand but changing a 20 into one’s?

Many years ago after withdrawing $9900 from the bank, I got a call from the FBI. The agent informed me that the bank contacted the FBI regarding my withdrawal. He was following up and inquired about it. My response to him was stating the law and how the bank just violated it by contacting them. The FBI agent asked me, How so? I responded by saying, "The law states that a financial institution shall report for any amount over $10,000. My withdrawal was $9900, so why am I talking to you?" His response was, "Well, we just follow up on the tips we get." That's when I said, "You contacting me after the bank violated the law is ironic. It's very clear about privacy. In good conscience, it indicates my next move is to immediately close my account at that bank. Thank you for your time. Is there any other questions." The FBI agent said, "No, I think that's pretty much it."
I immediately went to the bank and demanded to talk to the manager in the lobby. There were many people there at the time and I was very loud. I told him I am closing my account with the bank and needed a cashier's check for the full amount in my account. I then said in a very loud voice that one of your staff members violated the law and reported me simply because I withdrew money from my account. Many people heard me. I told him I will never do business with this bank again due to their unethical behavior. That was it. I received my cashier's check and as people looked at me leaving, I looked directly at them as I walked out.
