If he didn't fast track the vaccines they would have gotten general approval rather than Emergency Use Authorisation, thus allowing many many people to not be subject to vaccine mandates, as per the courts. It didn't save everyone, but it saved the majority.
Also aside from supposed whistleblowers, we're running on speculation about the lethality of this vaccine. It's still experimental and we need more data to determine of it was intentionally harmful or just reckless and desperate. I think the truth is somewhere in between. There were bad actors involved, sure. But there were mostly good people who thought they were doing the right thing.
As the data continues to pour in, we'll be able to find out and go from there. The EUA is the key as you pointed out. EUA leaves the door open for lawsuits because what the government givith in the form of "immunity" it can also take away and that's easier to do than of it secured general approval.
