I don’t think he was ever really considered Hollywood royalty. I think he was considered a joke and a fluke. Nobody really praised a guy named Mark Hammill for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker. All the credit for Star Wars went to George Lucas. When he later got the voice of the Joker for the Batman cartoon, that was his second biggest gig, and a voice acting role for a kid’s TV show is considered bargain basement in Hollywood. You’re practically a union actor at that point. The only people who were even happy for him (or even paying attention) were suburban white Gen X kids who grew up on Star Wars and thought of Luke Skywalker as their buddy.
Hammill pretty much turned on his entire fan base to suck globohomo corporate cock in the hope of getting roles from the same people who laughed at him and mocked him and refused to hire him most of his career. And even then they still don’t like him. They still don’t cast him. After Han Solo came back, Skywalker had to come back too, so they humiliated and dismissed him and pissed all over the character. Hammill’s one big role and he couldn’t even protect it. He sold it out immediately. It was just dumb.
And now look at him. Wouldn’t he be better off if he was the guy who told Disney to fuck off when they decided to ruin Star Wars?
